Its nothing but Wimbledon and Euros. I switched on for the BBC 6 o'clock news. No. Wimbledon. Every programme disrupted. Another is it three weeks of this. Every year.,

OP posts:

I've been following Wimbledon since my teens. It's the only sport I really enjoy watching. The French Open's good too but Wimbledon's the best. It's part of summer.

Me too. Why do they think the majority like watching sport?.

Sport probably has less time over a year than reality rubbish and the numerous spinoffs with reality 'stars', most of whom I don't know. Be positive, at least there's no never ending snooker or darts at the moment!

Because they do, that's why it's shown so widely.

They're naturally going to put programmes on for the majority.

phishy · 03/07/2024 05:40

I hear you, OP. When I put the TV on and someone has left it on Wimbledon or Euros, I scramble to change the channel. Not interested.

Of course I can change the channel, but it’s bloody everywhere and I hate it.

Laserwho · 03/07/2024 05:51

I don't like sport so I don't watch it. Many people like it so what's the harm? It's only on for a few weeks . I don't scramble to change the channel tho, I'm not 5.

Auburngal · 03/07/2024 06:01

Just you wait for the bloody Olympics! Who wants to watch Weightlifting at 7pm?

Just put all the sports on Red button

Auburngal · 03/07/2024 06:03

rainbowunicorn · 02/07/2024 22:13

Put the bbc news channel on. It is just news all day every day.

If you add up the new news content of news channels- it only adds up to about 50 mins.per day

So the OP could just watch it at 6pm like they were going to anyway? It's exactly the same content. Then move on and watch another channel.... what's the issue?

Me too. Why do they think the majority like watching sport?.

The Viewing figures show 16.1 million for the World Cup quarter final England v France 2022.

Even during Covid viewing for 6o clock news only got to 8.3 million and usually much lower News

So you just sit there watching sport you don’t like instead of picking up the remote? How does that mean you’re not 5? Confused

whyhavetheygotsomany · 03/07/2024 06:24

Do you usually moan about such pointless things ?

Butchyrestingface · 03/07/2024 06:28

I assume OP is too young to remember Henmania. Those were the days… Grin

What other programs are dominant at 7pm?

Bluebirdover · 03/07/2024 06:29

*important not dominant!

scalt · 03/07/2024 06:39

We're not yet in a era where such things are forcibly broadcast into our homes, you can switch the TV off. During the coronation and other royal events, I was very glad of the privilege of not watching these things. I can proudly say I did not watch any of platty joobs, the funeral, or the coronation. I'm the sort who puts a picture of a switched off television on social media during these events. The "off" button on a TV or radio is a very powerful tool.

I did wish I could banish Saint Boris's covid fear porn which was here, there and everywhere, including on bus stops. During that period, I abandoned Radio 4 completely, because I was fed up with hearing "corrrrrrronavirus" said in various posh voices, and I've never looked back. I did not watch a single "briefing" either.

In A-level physics, I remember learning that electricity companies have to prepare for the advert break in important sporting events, because there's a massive surge in demand when the whole country switches on their electric kettles to make a cup of tea; imagine the wrath of a whole town whose TVs suddenly went blank because of a power cut! It's probably less of a problem now though, with catch up TV.

Chartreux · 03/07/2024 06:43

Considering how much time is taken up with Football, Rugby and cricket, moaning about two weeks of Wimbledon is a bit precious.

Peonies12 · 03/07/2024 06:46

It’s 2 weeks. Why not do something interesting with your evenings instead

Perfectlystill · 03/07/2024 06:48

Watch Jack Slater. He is so young and handsome and polite and lovely.

I'm not normally fussed about Wimbledon but my husband put it on last night and I thought he was great.

Sondheimisademigod · 03/07/2024 06:48

JurassicClark · 03/07/2024 04:30

They bumped Sewing Bee for the tennis. Anything interfering with my Patrick Grant obsession can get in the bin here and now.

Well yes, this is an egregious outrage!

But not worth the level of angst shown by you, OP. YABU

Sondheimisademigod · 03/07/2024 06:52

I could moan mycarse off about the number of vacuous tv programnes such as love island, big brother, first dates, show your bits in order to attract someone, etc, etc.
But I watch something else instead.
Or speak to people
Or go for a walk
Or watch something else
Or read
Or watch something else
It's 2 weeks
Just wait until the Olympics start...

Janehasamane · 03/07/2024 06:55

UghFletcher · 03/07/2024 06:57

YABU it's the biggest tennis championships in the world, of course it's going to be on tv. It's only 2 weeks.

There's millions of other channels you can watch.
