To ask if anyone's little ones have had very weird virus symptoms recently?

DD was sent home from school today, she was absolutely fine this morning but apparently started complaining of being a bit hot and cold at break time. Then started to say she had a tummy ache a bit later so they called me. I gave her calpol although she didn't have a temp. However an hour after that her temp has shot up to 40 and she was complaining of a headache. Took her to GP who can't see any obvious cause, no redness in her ears or throat and nothing in her urine. We've been told if temp doesn't come down in an hour to take her to the hospital. Just trying to work out what kind of bugs are doing the rounds at the moment or if anyone has had similar with no obvious cause.

Covid, we're in a wave.

Littlemisscapable · 02/07/2024 16:46

Yes covid..ours have had this..very shortlived though.

FirstNameSecondName · 02/07/2024 16:47

Had one dd who had beenfine all evening, started complaining of tummy pain then spent the night vomiting . Came on really quickly. Two nights later, exactly same thing with other dd.

Apparently going around the school.

BananaPeanutToast · 02/07/2024 16:47

Yes sounds like covid?

robotgun · 02/07/2024 16:49

DS and I have had on and off stomach cramps for a week. Before that we both had bad headaches and itching/hives. I had a temp too. I think we both caught Covid and this is the tail end.

user81719191 · 02/07/2024 17:02

Sounds like it is probably covid then. Temp is still at 39.5 despite calpol and ibuprofen so I'm just hoping she starts to cool down soon

This happened to our child at the weekend. Was absolutely fine and suddenly started crying with back ache and a temp of 40.1. We ended up at a&e (after going to urgent care first) and they have diagnosed a kidney infection. We had done a covid test which was negative.

Hand, foot and mouth disease is going around like wildfire at some of the nurseries and infant schools local to me. They're ill with a fever and generally not feeling well for a day or two, or a bit more, and then a few days later end up with blisters that resemble chicken pox but only on hands, feet and inside the mouth.

CowboyJoanna · 02/07/2024 17:15

DD6 and DS10 have on off coughs that have lasted for about a month now. I really don't get it.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 02/07/2024 17:16

We've had noro doing the rounds

user81719191 · 02/07/2024 17:16

@LuckysDadsHat I hope they are feeling better now! Dr said there was nothing in her urine sample so I'm hoping it's not that

Ds5 is like this today. He woke this morning complaining of leg ache. Gave him calpol and sent him to school. He’s obviously been ok all day as they never called me but when I collected him he was pale and lethargic. His temp was 39. He’s shivering and complaining of tummy ache.

We only had noro a fortnight ago so hoping it’s not that again. He’s got a bit of a cold so probably covid.

NoTouch · 02/07/2024 17:25

I’ve just had Covid and I had fever, headache, no appetite and just completely wiped out/slept a lot for 4 days before it changed to your standard bad cold like symptoms- deep cough, congestion. Still testing positive 10 days after first symptoms.

sarahc336 · 02/07/2024 17:27

It's covid doing the rounds and comes out very gastro ish in kids

SummerHouse · 02/07/2024 17:35

DS just had:
Vomit (once only)
Headache (throbbing especially when standing up)
Temp
Swollen gland (only one side)
Nausea

Lasted seven days. No cough or cold symptoms. Dr said viral. I did wonder about covid but no tests in the shops we tried.

Hope your little one is doing ok. It's such a worry when you just can't find a specific thing to attribute it to.

paranoidmumdroid1 · 02/07/2024 17:35

4 days of high temps and severe headaches for 2 of my 3 dc. Some gastric with that. Then bounced back to normal. Other dc, dh and I didn't get it.

Drivingmissmarigold · 02/07/2024 17:46

Tummy aches don't sound typical of COVID. Noro is doing the rounds at my local primary. Have you tried cool shower/fan to help bring her temperature down?

ClawdeenWolf · 02/07/2024 17:47

Yep, DD came home with hives all over her face. Then we both came down with D&V: I was knackered, sore joints. Almost certainly COVID.

Drivingmissmarigold · 02/07/2024 17:55

Oh I'm not reading that. I'm well aware some people can have gastro symptoms with COVID or any other virus, but it's not a common symptom. Multiple covid infections in my household, wider family, colleagues etc, not once has anyone mentioned gastric symptoms. Gastro symptoms usually point to a gastro bug in the case of viruses. Noro is very prevalent at the moment. There are plenty of other viruses around other than COVID.
Besides it doesn't really matter which virus OP's DD has, what matters is getting her temperature down. Active cooling OP if her temp is 40c.

Ours didn't show up in a dip test. Only in full lab testing at the hospital. So keep a close eye on it.

I’m similar. Some indications of a temp (no thermometer to check). Hoping rest will sort it.
