To think that, as a member of the LGBT+ community, no party has my back?

Just that really, seeing so much homophobia/transphobia in the press from all angles and it feels kind of hopeless voting for anyone when they all seem so against our community…

OP posts:
WineIsMyCarb · 30/06/2024 14:59

Can you give some examples?

BigPussyEnergy · 30/06/2024 15:00

yeah this is going to go well.

OchonAgusOchonOh · 30/06/2024 15:07

I think if you're L, G or B they don't have your back. If you're T, you're flying it with most of them.

ThatSongFromTheBar · 30/06/2024 15:07

How are they against you?

ShouldhavebeencalledAppollo · 30/06/2024 15:08

Can you Explain the actual issue you are talking about?

Breakfastofmilk · 30/06/2024 15:09

Not LGBT+ myself so I'm probably only feeling a fraction of what you feel on the topic but I've also been very disappointed at the apparent eagerness of Labour to embrace transphobia. It feels to me like throwing away principles of equality and fairness to capitalise on people's fears for votes (I wouldn't expect any better from the tories). It makes me absolutely ashamed to be associated with it. I'm frustrated that I will still have to vote Labour because on so many other issues the tories are absolutely worse.

It must feel very worrying for you and other members of the LGBT+ community.

Ednasharples · 30/06/2024 15:10

Yeah drat that terrible labour government 🙄

Koolsgang · 30/06/2024 15:12

Well if you look on the feminism board here you’ll see a lot of women are conflicted about voting labour because of their stance on trans rights & lack of protection for female only spaces. So you are not alone!

How are Labour transphobic?

AutumnCrow · 30/06/2024 15:17

What 'LGBT+ community'? That's a social construct that is very specifically historically & geo-politically situated, notably in the post-modern Stonewall-aligned liberal West, as is increasingly being recognised by many gay people who quite frankly feel used.

I'm guessing Wes Streeting suddenly remember that political class analysis includes recognition of two sex classes? That old socialism thing. It's sooooo last century.

AutumnCrow · 30/06/2024 15:21

As for Harriet Taylor Mill ...

FitAt50 · 30/06/2024 15:42

I am Gay and haven't seen any homophobia from the press and only heard anything anti from the Reform canvasor. I think we live in a really tolerant country and I feel 100% accepted and welcomed everywhere. If anything I think there is too much forcus on being LGBT... and we are now just part of everyday society.

TudorFrameHouse · 30/06/2024 15:49

The Lib Dems have your back

You are a woman if you feel like a woman (and visa versa) - its their mantra

You’re very lucky- your experience isn’t universal or even common.

Joolsin · 30/06/2024 15:55

What is the LGBTQ+ community?

pumbaasmiles · 30/06/2024 16:16

Can you give some examples, OP?
There seems to be a lot of frustration around parties struggling to understand what a woman is and protecting women's rights. The T from LGBT seems to be doing ok.

Ednasharples · 30/06/2024 16:19

How many T folk are in the UK ? Seems like we’re being invaded by them reading MN.

BibbleandSqwauk · 30/06/2024 16:24

What is it that you would like one / all of the parties to say that would affirm your rights that wouldn't compromise womens' rights and safety? Because I think that's the magic golden unicorn that noone can find.

Can you give some examples of :

a) What the Political parties are proposing that makes them against your community?
and
b) What you want from the Political parties?

Please. 😂

Keir Starmer is your man, OP. He's willing to turn the Labour party inside out for a load of mouthy TRAs.

Lgb rights are entirely compatible with women’s rights- what makes you think they aren’t?

Op said LgbT.

T rights aren't exactly fully compatible with women's rights, for obvious reasons.
