To think that, as a member of the LGBT+ community, no party has my back?

Just that really, seeing so much homophobia/transphobia in the press from all angles and it feels kind of hopeless voting for anyone when they all seem so against our community…

OP posts:

@HildaOgdensMurielle you're right in that I automatically "went to" the T which I think is problematic for obvious and often repeated reasons. This is why I understand some of the LGB community don't sit comfortably with T being added on. It raises issues that sexuality doesn't. Having said that, I'm not sure how helpful it is to add yet more divisions into an already exceptionally fragmented society.

SpudleyLass · 30/06/2024 16:36

Op said LgbT.

T rights aren't exactly fully compatible with women's rights, for obvious reasons.

@DenimLeader hasn't said she is trans.

And you didn’t specify who you were talking about- you implied all lgbt rights are a danger to women.

So us lesbian feminists should accept being lumped in with men who think they are women in order not to create a more fragmented society?

I'm responding to your response to another comment.

You ignored the T to make your point to the other poster.

I pointed out that the T existed in OP's post.

I clearly specified that its the T that is conflicting, not just with women's rights, tbf.

TheKeatingFive · 30/06/2024 16:52

So this thread is all about feelings without any actual wxalples of anything? Why am I not surprised.

Sorry, I mixed you up with a different poster. I’m a bit dozy today!

BlueSlate · 30/06/2024 17:03

If you're L, G or B, I agree with you. If you're T, you've got your pick of the bunch outside Cons and Reform.

NewGreenDuck · 30/06/2024 17:05

Please give examples of politicians making homophobic comments
In respect of the T in the equation, I haven't seen anything that is transphobic. I've only seen discussions about whether a man becomes a woman. They don't, BTW.

BibbleandSqwauk · 30/06/2024 17:09

@HildaOgdensMurielle I've clarified my original post and not looking to get into a fight. No I don't think anyone should be "lumped in" with anyone. I think the idea that anyone still need to identify as part of a specific community before stating their view is a shame.

LlynTegid · 30/06/2024 17:10

I think there is a valid concern that it is talk and little action, especially for lesbian rights. Not that issues are ignored.

IdisagreeMrHochhauser · 30/06/2024 17:13

Depends what flavour of LBTQ you are. As a bisexual woman I totally despair. If you're TQ+ then you're grand with most of them.

FitAt50 · 30/06/2024 15:42

I am Gay and haven't seen any homophobia from the press and only heard anything anti from the Reform canvasor. I think we live in a really tolerant country and I feel 100% accepted and welcomed everywhere. If anything I think there is too much forcus on being LGBT... and we are now just part of everyday society.

The charities and organisations that supported gay rights and marriage found themselves mostly obsolete once gay rights and gay marriage were legalised. So they had to find another drum to bang, to keep their jobs. Hence trans rights, despite the numbers of people with genuine sexual dysmorphia being very, very small.

Who we are as people has a funny habit of informing our opinions, therefore sometimes it’s relevant.

The fact I’m a dyke is irrelevant to a discussion on breast feeding or toilet seats colour, but it informs my opinion about whether LGB (T) rights are at risk, or whether they are a risk to women, or which political parties are most likely to support those rights- therefore it’s reasonable to mention it.

Not LGBT+ myself so I'm probably only feeling a fraction of what you feel on the topic but I've also been very disappointed at the apparent eagerness of Labour to embrace transphobia. It feels to me like throwing away principles of equality and fairness to capitalise on people's fears for votes (I wouldn't expect any better from the tories). It makes me absolutely ashamed to be associated with it. I'm frustrated that I will still have to vote Labour because on so many other issues the tories are absolutely worse.

It must feel very worrying for you and other members of the LGBT+ community.

In what way have the Labour Party been transphobic?

kitsuneghost · 30/06/2024 18:06

Don't worry as an average earner with no kids, nobody has mine either.

I thought "wxalples" was some sort of pronoun/new addition to lgbtq that I'd missed for a moment then 😂

Ugh.

People really don’t.

The idea that being a lesbian isn’t relevant and doesn’t have its own particular implications in the trans debate is simply ignorant.
