My Mum had a Chronic Condition from when I was 12 years old that led to her becoming disabled. The experience of growing up with a disabled parent and supporting her once I became an adult inspired me to want to become an Occupational Therapist.

I enrolled on a Degree Course three years ago, and today at the Grand age of 47 I've found out that achieved a First Class Degree in OT. Sadly, my Mum who was my biggest supporter in my re-training passed away suddenly three months ago so never got to see this day.

I'm soon going to be working in Older Adults Mental Health and hoping that my own life experiences will make be a kind, understanding and empathetic OT.
Hope you don't mind me sharing. I've told my children and husband but wanted someone else to tell!

Congratulations. I bet your Mum would be over the moon for you and so very proud.

Even though she is not here to see it I’m sure she knew all along that you had it in you to do so well x x x

WinterCarlisle · 28/06/2024 18:49

Well done!! That’s a brilliant achievement. I’m a HCP and I wish so badly that we had OTs in my department. They are so needed and yet funding…….🤦🏼‍♀️. It’s a great profession that makes a huge difference.

Your Mum sounds amazing. I’m so sorry that you had to do CPR - it must have been so traumatic.

For what it’s worth, I’m really proud of you x

Congratulations! When I was doing my OU degree many years ago my Dad died during my final year and I came close to stopping it but I didn't. When I went to my graduation there was a man with exactly my Dad's name getting a doctorate and it felt like he was there with us.
