… to think this is ridiculous. (portion size)

I fancied a Chelsea bun from the bakery this morning so asked for one to be added to my bread order. Didn’t really think much about it.

When I got it home I was staggered by the size of it.

Is this really what passes for the one serving of cake for one person? I’ll eat about a quarter. It will be stale tomorrow so the birds will get the rest.

Teaspoon for scale

Well no because it's going to get chucked in the bin 😂. I suppose you could give some out to the neighbours.

Invite them round for a veritable feast 😄

rewilded · 26/06/2024 15:31

Why am I reading this as Mrs Pattmore from Downton Abbey?

spikeandbuffy · 26/06/2024 15:31

I would eat half and cling film tightly then have the other half warmed up with custard tomorrow
But then I'm fat so...

Ohhelpicantthinkofaname · 26/06/2024 13:40

I could eat that easily. It’s not like you’ll be having one every day. Just enjoy it.

Extactly, not everything has to be wrapped up in misery and self-hatred.

🙄🙄🙄🙄

gardenmusic · 26/06/2024 15:33

OP, do you have a freezer? Eat as much as you want, and freeze the rest.
There is no such thing as a too big cake.

JanetareyouokareyouokJanet · 26/06/2024 15:33

You should just look at it for a bit then throw it away.

Skyrainlight · 26/06/2024 15:33

That's American sizing. Way to big.

WiseBiscuit · 26/06/2024 15:34

Goodness @Elphame what a superior being you are.

Newsflash, I could eat two. The heathen that I am.

Rickrolypoly · 26/06/2024 15:34

Honestly still cant believe people would freeze half a fucking bun.

KoiKoiKoi · 26/06/2024 15:34

Stormyseasallround · 26/06/2024 13:45

Is this a humble brag about what a tiny appetite you have, and that that’s why other people are fat?

Of course it is.

I can go one further and say I'd only manage 1 sutans/currant from this becuase I'd add it to my massive salad 😇

MightyDoctor · 26/06/2024 15:35

Horrible things. Eat what you want, wrap the rest for the rest of the week.
As if you didn't know portion sizes when you ordered.

Ps Horrible things is my personal preference. I cannot stand cinammon, raisins, icing sugar glazing.
Croissant with butter any day, if we're leaning towards pastries.

Thomasina79 · 26/06/2024 15:36

I agree it’s massive. There seems to be a trend in the UK to generally follow American meals in that they are becoming supersized, which is very unhealthy.
i know we all have a choice in what we eat, but I don’t think super sizing meals will help the obesity crisis much!

Do you know what - my DD is battling what has been a crushing eating disorder which has stolen her teenage years and created a pretty hellish existence for her and the rest of her family. How did it start? Well despite healthy messages about bodies, self esteem, food etc etc from her family, she still had this idea that she needed to be the smallest she could be, that eating things like Chelsea Buns makes her greedy and disgusting. That's come from this twisted fucking society we exist in. Posters like this OP really do make me so angry, the perpetual fucking idea that women must be this size and this size only, if they eat something bigger than a teaspoon they must need a fucking crane to lift them into bed at night. This kind of "teeny tiny" bullshit continues to damage the self esteem of countless women, and Mumsnet is fucking flooded with it.

Edited

I don't know how old she is but I follow this woman on IG who is in recovery and incredibly inspiring if you were looking for the good side of social media

where is this bakery? (asking for a friend)

Me too.
hope the delivery charge is sensible

AmelieTaylor · 26/06/2024 15:39

Elphame · 26/06/2024 13:41

It is 6 inches square and 3 inches deep!

Are you a man?

KTheGrey · 26/06/2024 15:39

Fishcake15 · 26/06/2024 15:29

Well no because it's going to get chucked in the bin 😂. I suppose you could give some out to the neighbours.

No, no, it must be made into breadnbutter pudding. Or frozen for later.

Cosycover · 26/06/2024 15:41

I'd eat that no bother at all.

Away back to your massive salad. This is boring.

gardenmusic · 26/06/2024 15:41

Is anyone else getting adverts for intermittent fasting?

Chocolatefreak · 26/06/2024 15:42

Do you know the calories in that bun? Because if it's 500-1000 that's clearly too many. A bun is a snack - it shouldn't be more than a meal's worth. Or is it meant to be divided between a family of 4?

I agree OP, it's a ridiculous size.

ShinyPebble32 · 26/06/2024 15:43

Ahahahahahaaa!! ‘Teaspoon for scale’ 🤣🤣 this has got to be one of the best competitive undereating posts I’ve seen yet.

BouleDeSuif · 26/06/2024 15:44

Are you eating one every day? Probably too big.

Are you having it as a treat cos you fancy a bun? Not too big.

I love Chelsea buns.

Growlybear83 · 26/06/2024 15:44

Rickrolypoly · 26/06/2024 15:34

Honestly still cant believe people would freeze half a fucking bun.

😆😆😆me neither. I sometimes think I must be living in a parallel universe to most of the people who inhabit the Mumsnet world.

gardenmusic · 26/06/2024 15:45

I prefer a Belgian bun, now they are massive.

Fingeronthebutton · 26/06/2024 15:46

Freeze what you don’t want. Microwave next time you feel like a bun.

Cosycover · 26/06/2024 15:46

Also my husband and I would half a Ben & Jerry's tub in one sitting. It wouldn't last any longer.
