Can I get a smooth body with a short torso or will I need intervention

So I’m on a weight loss journey. I’m short with a short torso and long legs. I tend to look lumpy if I’m not careful. I have to be at a certain weight to look smooth and even then I can look lumpy when I’m bloated. I’m decently slim not but want to lose a stone to look lean and smooth. I’m so jealous of those girls with longer torsos who just look amazing even when they’re bloated. At least I have decent legs so can’t complain too much. I do have bigger boobs which in my opinion are a bit too big but once I get down to ideal weight they should shrink a bit.

does any of you have advice on how to get to my goal a bit sooner e.g. waist training, certain exercises, certain diet changes? I watch my diet. I don’t eat clean but decently healthy. I would love to get liposuction done (yes I would resort to that because I don’t like looking lumpy that much) I’m hoping I’ll get a good job after maternity to start saving for it. I’m terrified of it not getting better then getting worse when menopause hits which is probably 20 years give or take for me.

I know this is vain and first world problems and people will say love yourself but I need to be a certain way to feel like myself and to feel comfortable and right now while I’m glad I’ve bounced back after pregnancy and lost weight I’m not 100% happy as I want to look long and lean so bad. A friend of mine recently had a baby a couple of months after me she’s got a long torso and she looks so much better than me. It’s not fair lol

You would be better off focusing on health, strength and overall fitness.

In the nicest possible way, I would love to be tall, willowy and flat chested but it will never happen!

It sounds like you've latched on to one specific detail at the expense of your overall wellbeing, you can safely throw those thoughts away 😉

Me earlier this month. I was wearing shapewear underneath that dress

Exactly. I’ll never have a long torso but I can do things to make it and myself feel and look better

Tbh, you need to wear clothes that suit your shape. Like everyone else. I'm an underweight midget but I couldn't pull that off. We can't always get what we want, clothes included.

I would pull that off better once I get to goal weight and if I still don’t look smooth then after I have liposuction lol

Grand but take it one step at a time! And stop comparing yourself to your friend, she's a different body shape to you. Focus on keeping fit and healthy, dressing well for the shape you are now and loving your body as it is.

I have a short torso and curvy hips/boobs and the answer for me is to make sure everything has a waist and don’t go for tight all over e.g. fitted top with flowing/skater skirt or flared/wide fit jeans. Or fitted bottom half and looser fit top. If wearing a dress then a shirt dress or skater style that nips in at the waist.

SlugGloves · 26/06/2024 13:20

Try a dress without anything cutting you off at the middle. In the red dress, although it’s all one colour, you’re being chopped in half where it starts at the shoulders, then again just under your bust, and again on that seam on the waist, and finally where the fabric pulls at the bottom of your torso/start of your legs.

And in the second outfit there’s just too much going on around the waist/hip area; the hem of that top isn’t designed for a skirt with that kind of waistband, it’s got nowhere to sit smoothly, the skirt has belt loops and a jean still waist, you’ve then got a belt with excess belt hanging down, and then the frilly skirt which creates another line/division to your silhouette.

I don’t think you’ve actually got a short torso, I think you’re just not dressing to elongate it as your clothes are quite fussy and have lots of details. It’s certainly a look but it’s a little bit frou-frou Aintree races. I’d love to see how you looked in a very simple bias cut dress, or something with an empire line as that might help you feel your torso looks longer.

Attached a pic of the type of bias cut dress I mean, although colours and level of boob on show are negotiable.

Did you ever manage to get to the hairdresser's after having the baby?
I remember you were worried about that.

The dress doesn't suit you, OP.

It's a bit small. Is it a pre-pregnancy one?

EveryoneButSam · 26/06/2024 13:25

I have a long torso and can never get swimsuits to fit, and tops tend to sit too high. Swings and roundabouts!

But this dress is just way too small, isn't it? It's not that you look lumpy as such, it's just that it doesn't fit.

A gorgeous option in red here if you still want it to be a bit racy for a special event, but this will really elongate your torso. It’s from House of CB.

That dress is lovely!

TheShellBeach · 26/06/2024 13:34

BTW are you still breastfeeding? I found that I lost loads of weight with that.

Is there some weird photoshop fail going on with that model? Her waist is all wrong

The second pic is her friend - who has probably not given permission for it to be analysed on MN!!

Dontletme · 26/06/2024 13:38

I think you should try different shaped dresses and you will find some are more flattering. I have a short torso and have to be careful I don’t look all bunched up around the middle. As you have nice legs, you could go for a looser dress shape which shows off your legs and something that is not too tight around the tummy area.

Honestly, your utter obsession with how you look is not healthy (I say that based on this thread and other threads you have posted)

As someone with a short torso I have to say that dress won't work. Where that dress goes in at the waist, that would be lower than my hips and the dress would bunch up. The torso on that dress is very long. We have to wear petite stuff with a short torso. Empire line also works as there's more leeway on where it 'thinks' our waist is.

Yes. Just waiting for her to bump this one.

Radiatorrung · 26/06/2024 13:49

Long torso make looking leaner easier but I think they are just as hard to dress as short torsos. Much of looking long and lean comes from being tall & skinny with a small frame.

It reminds me of how much I would obsess over my weight when I was younger. I would spend hours talking about my weight to my friends and I think these threads provide the same outlet for the OP. So, I have empathy for her mindset and it's not easy to change but I did think having a baby might give her a bit of perspective.

She never mentions the baby.
(I remember she was going to sleep train him from birth)
It's all just about her hair and figure.
