to think the world revolves around YOUR children

honestly the way you go on

millions of people, in fact the vast majority, have children

those who don't have young kids, had them or will have them

they are just children and for a very short time they are dependent on your care but they are not the centre of the known universe you know so don't expect people outside of your family grouping to think they are

I thenk you

is this directed at anyone in particular or just the entirety of mumsnet?

Thinking that the world revolves around our children is one of the root causes of their bad behaviour, imo.

Twiglett · 09/04/2008 13:25

oh about 85% of mumsnet and about 10% of RL people

My children are the centre of the unknown universe

Flynnie · 09/04/2008 13:30

Well my lo are the centre of the universe to me.

Boco · 09/04/2008 13:32

I think children deserve to feel like they're pretty near the centre of someone's universe - as long as that doesn't impact on the way you or they regard or respect other people, and as long as they don't begin to believe they're the centre of the actual universe.

It's fine to be the centre of the parents' universe, but not the centre of everyone else's universe.

VanillaPumpkin · 09/04/2008 13:35

My mate thinks her children are perfect. They are perfectly normal. She thinks we all adore them as much as she does. We don't. We all adore our children as much as she adores hers.
I agree with Boco too.

Flynnie · 09/04/2008 13:43

Isn't thinking that they are the centre of the universe the same as thinking that they are more important then anything else in the world. and isn't that what we all think about our children?
would never expect anyone else to think that about my children btw...think their own children might object!

It's fine for them to be adored as long as:-

you teach them to be loving to others in their families,
kind and polite to other people,
that they can't have every thing they want when they want it,

in other words to be members of society.

I spent yesterday with a 4 year old who was adamant what I could not like the same colour flower that she did, that I 'needed' to buy her a toy, that I should not tell her to not walk out into the road without me!

Much fun was had by all!!

SueBaroo · 09/04/2008 13:43

No, no, you've got it all wrong. I don't think the world revolves around my son. You're getting a bit mixed up with the sun shining out of his backside

you are living in a fantasy world if you think it doesnt IMO

Twiglett · 09/04/2008 16:35

your world is allowed to revolve around your children

you are not allowed to have any inkling that anyone else's world does in the slightest though

bozza · 09/04/2008 16:35

But suebaroo surely that is the same thing. World revolving round sun that just happens to be up your DS's backside.....

Enid · 09/04/2008 16:37

Blandmum · 09/04/2008 16:39

Ohh, that they are the light of our eyes, great, fabbo terrific.

That you (and they) should think that they must be the most important things in everyone elses lives, dreadful, horrible, spoled brat producing. And agree with scienteacher, mankes for V badly behaved kids in school
