AIBU to go to a hen party but not dress up for the theme?

It's a theme I own nothing for already and not keen to splurge on fast fashion for an outfit and accessories that I will never use again. Keen to attend the event though and paid for it already. WWYD?

Er, there's a hell of a lot wrong with fast fashion, especially if you're then throwing it away afterwards and it's ending up in landfill sites. (Unless you're taking it to charity shops? Mind you they don't want it half the time either.)

finallyspringisspring · 24/06/2024 14:20

I was just about to give a hat that fits that theme to a charity shop.
If you are happy to cover postage I can send it to you.
Can take a photo when I'm home if you are interested :)

Moveoverdarlin · 24/06/2024 14:22

Jeans and checked shirt, (Just looked on Vinted and there are loads on there for a £1.50, put them straight back on there afterwards) Same with a hat. Two plaits in your hair, draw on freckles.

S0livagant · 24/06/2024 14:23

Wouldn't a cowgirl just wear light denim jeans and a checked shirt, like cowboys?

Moveoverdarlin · 24/06/2024 14:25

In fairness, I couldn’t think of an easier theme. It’s just jeans and a shirt. I thought you were going to say the theme was ‘sexy astronaut’ or ‘Beyonce’.

damebarbaracartlandsbiggestfan · 24/06/2024 14:37

Lots of blue denim, suede and lace. A bandana round your neck - bonus points if you can get a fringed one. Also do you have any turquoise jewellery OP?
Mini cowboy hats are fun for stag/hen do's and no worries about size! and if you buy a cheap multipack online, it'll be fun to take them on the night out and give them out to people.

If you don't care about the environment, what about the slave labour?

It really IS an issue. Just one you're choosing to ignore.

RitaIncognita · 24/06/2024 14:56

Any suggestions for "glamorous" cowgirl options which I think is more the style?
There is the Rodeo Queen option. Long blingy dress, cowboy hat with a tiara on top. Make a satin sash to wear with Rodeo Queen in glitter.

One of those fancy shirts like Temple Grandin wears?

ncob · 24/06/2024 11:30

Thanks for the suggestions all! Maybe I'm just useless at fancy dress.
Live in a small town and already raided local charity shops- so needs to be bought online. Any suggestions for "glamorous" cowgirl options which I think is more the style?

With all the simple, easy suggestons on this thread you have to buy online now?

Glamorous? Fuck me, put on some eyeliner.

Keeperinthecloset · 24/06/2024 15:30

I have multiple cowboy hats in different colours and accessories , we just had a cow girl theme party I’m happy to send to you PM me

As above ..

AIBU to go to a hen party but not dress up for the theme?
Bordersgarage · 24/06/2024 15:47

I’d go and comply with the theme as cheaply as possible, whilst still giving the impression that I’ve put at least some effort
in. I’d feel like a right lemon if I went and I was the only one not joining in (and I hate fancy dress).

@ThisNaiceLemonSloth What is it about the slave labour that doesn't bother you?
I get (even if I don't agree) that people don't care about the environmental aspect. I know there's a lot of 'I'm not doing my bit because China etc etc etc', but the likes of Temu, Shein etc have truly awful practices in the way they use child labour etc.

Many councils collect fabric scraps/rags/used clothes as part of their standard curbside recyling programme. If you can't be bothered to take to a charity shop, would you at least be bothered to check your council's website (will take 2 mins max) and then put your clothes out for recycling (if they do collect) rather than putting it all in landfill?

Are you really as lazy, thoughtless and self centered in real life as you are on this thread?

Poppysmom22 · 24/06/2024 17:03

I bought what I thought was going to be a cheap crappy Stetson for a similar thing it came it was superb quality and looked so good on I wore it for years and I rocked that hat

Salvation Army or similar bin in a supermarket carpark? Ridiculously quick and easy.

EC22 · 24/06/2024 18:17

A token nod to the theme is all that’s required. If you make no effort apart I think it looks like you can’t be bothered.

Easier and more convenient for you to put in the bin... where it will then sit in landfill for the next few generations.

Your recycling presumably gets collected every 2 weeks? All you'd have to do is put it out with that.
If you're listing on Vinted then photographing, listing, packing up, taking to the post office etc is considerably more effort than simply putting an extra bag out with your recycling.

Clearly, no-one's opinion bothers you, but your lack of moral compass bothers me and a number of other posters on this thread.
