AIBU to go to a hen party but not dress up for the theme?

It's a theme I own nothing for already and not keen to splurge on fast fashion for an outfit and accessories that I will never use again. Keen to attend the event though and paid for it already. WWYD?

Just wear jeans, a white tshirt and a bandana round your neck.

ShinyPebble32 · 24/06/2024 13:28

Are you in a WhatsApp group for it? Can’t you just ask the others if they have something you can borrow - or ask other friends and family?

I totally understand not wanting to get a single use fast fashion item, but it’s much nicer to participate in these things than not. I’m sure there’s something you can repurpose creatively!

I would get a couple of fancy dress items if I couldn’t find or borrow anything, but then they would get added to my DC’s fancy dress box, so would be reused plenty of times. I wouldn’t really want to look like ‘that person’ who thinks they’re above participating in an idea the others have had.

If you share the theme perhaps people can help with ideas, you can borrow something or look on Vinted. I personally think if you’re choosing to attend an event like a hen, you have to make some effort

It 's in the OP's second post.
If you select "See All" in the Op's first post it will just filter out the OP's posts.

Dress in black and cut out white shapes to sew on- you are a cow - girl !

AffableApple · 24/06/2024 13:42

If you can get a hat, you're laughing. Top half most important so you look like you're willing in the photos. Do you have a local Facebook page you can ask for a particularly large/small cowboy style hat on (you said you were an unusual size?)? And/or anything with a cow hide type print? Or denim, or a frilly shirt? It's about nodding towards it rather than looking authentic.

Or just this!

Findingmypurposeinlife · 24/06/2024 13:47

Love these as 'cowgirl jeans' lol. Alternatively there are the tassle ones 😆 (Can I come?)

I would just wear anything denim (jeans, shorts, skirt, dress - even a jacket) and a stetson and you are sorted!

If you want something nice that you would wear again, have a look at denim dresses from sosander. They sell at M and S and (I think Next) as well which both do next day delivery. Loads of styles.

Thanks for the suggestions all! Maybe I'm just useless at fancy dress.
Live in a small town and already raided local charity shops- so needs to be bought online. Any suggestions for "glamorous" cowgirl options which I think is more the style?

Cowgirl?

jeans, a checkered (or red?) button up. Potentially tied at the mid section.

a hat would be neat.

don’t bother with boots. If you wear wide legged jeans, they won’t even be visible…

BrendaSmall · 24/06/2024 14:03

Check shirt, denim shorts as summer and cow girl hat!

EveryOtherNameTaken · 24/06/2024 14:05

Jeans
Shirt tied in a knot at the front (preferably checked)
Two plaits
Neckerchief
Just brown boots if you have them
Plastic cowboy hat

Ponderingwindow · 24/06/2024 14:05

This is so easy

jeans
top

find something in your closet that is worn out and you were going to throw away or that you never ever wear and were likely to donate to a charity shop. Cut it down so you have a vest.

freshbluesnow · 24/06/2024 14:06

Wear your hair in bunches, paint on freckles, tie your shirt at your waist, and wear blue jeans, or a short skirt. Instant cowgirl. Use your own wardrobe.

Ponderingwindow · 24/06/2024 14:07

Other option, wear something plain and add a bandana. You can buy one at a craft store. They are cheap.

Dreamingofthishouse · 24/06/2024 14:11

I did this recently, was reluctant to bug anything! Any big over size shirt, open bar last few buttons and tied at waist , skinny jeans or denim shorts and any heels, a short scarf/ napkin tied at waist, sunglasses, big hair . Across body Side worn bag and if you have to buy anything maybe buy a cowboy hat! Also could skip the shirt and buy a waistcoat instead!

TudorFrameHouse · 24/06/2024 14:12

Cow girl just needs a cow person bandana
Less than £5 from amazon etc
You can get one with a hat for £10 on amazon

Or just a gingham tea towel could do

WetBandits · 24/06/2024 14:14

There will be tons of cowboy hats in charity shops and on eBay/Vinted in the next few days after all the Swifties decide they don’t want them anymore!

WetBandits · 24/06/2024 14:14

Red checkered shirt and a pair of denim shorts and you’re set!

Clarabell77 · 24/06/2024 14:15

YANBU when the fuck did this nonsense start.

Blinkingbonkers · 24/06/2024 14:16

Skinny jeans with belt, boots of any kind if you have some, white tee shirt or check shirt (does your dad/brother/bf have one would could borrow?) with a hanky/bandana round your neck… if you have long hair stick it in two plaits. Done.

I'm assuming this is tongue in cheek?
