I expect that'll be quite the shock to him 😱

Lucky my mums not around….not sure how she’d take being a lesbian 🤔

probably in her stride to be fair 😀

MrsClownland · 22/06/2024 22:59

Starmer could fix all this (or go a long way toward it) by making a clear unambiguous statement that he does not support self ID and that he does support single sex spaces and a show of support for Rosie Duffield would help to.

myduglovesbaltis · 22/06/2024 22:59

Sorry I mean Counsellor Clare. She is in a Chester Ward I mean.

Yes. Not rocket science.

And to her mum too, no doubt!

I also have to break it to my kids that their bearded dad is now their mum. It might put a dampener on DD's birthday tomorrow! 😬

MuchasSmoochas · 22/06/2024 23:00

I’m definitely literal about chromosomes and gonads.

DialSquare · 22/06/2024 23:00

I iron and go to football matches. Does that make me non binary?

lemonstolemonade · 22/06/2024 23:01

@SergeantDawkins

Genuine question - if saying trans women are men is awful, what about instead saying "male"? It's the truth.

I'm really only interested in female only spaces and sports where sex matters. If someone wants to be a "woman" where that has no potential effect on the female sex class I really don't care what they do.

It's a female rights thing, not about hating on those male people, but recognising that they will share characteristics with other male people (strength, male puberty advantages, plus a propensity to commit crime at the rate applicable to males).

I don't view all trans women as rapists in waiting in the same way that I don't think my brother is a rapist in waiting, but I still wouldn't support my brother being in a female prison if he were convicted of a crime or a female hospital ward even if he would find it far more pleasant because the dignity and safety of the women matters without exception for the "nice ones".

Is that the B side to Handbags and Gladrags?

SergeantDawkins · 22/06/2024 22:47

Many people are talking about this in a way that seems to disregard their rights, feelings and existence.

You can sod right off with that nonsense!

Absolutely nobody is disregarding trans people’s rights, feelings or existence. They have the absolute right to present themselves however they please, the right to go about their day without being harassed or attacked or made to feel uncomfortable or anything else unpleasant happening to them. They have the exact same rights as any other group of people.

But they’re not having my rights to a single sex space. That is not up for grabs and you can come up with as many ill informed arguments as you like, and resort to insults when that doesn’t work. But all it boils down to is you telling women to sit down, shut up and move over. Not happening.

My husband does most of our ironing (limited to school uniform really). He was also a SAHP. Is he a <gasps> woman?!

I fear so. Did he iron his penis off or did it just fall off the moment he picked up the iron?

I wonder if a hand held steamer would be more masculine and prevent such tragedies.

Horseebooks · 22/06/2024 23:07

I just think it’s so fucking sad that instead of working on stopping horrible people doing horrible things to women, we’re out here fighting about toilets. 99.9% of bad things done to women are done by men (and most of those by a man they know), and people think the solution is to just make sure we have places we can fucking HIDE?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 22/06/2024 23:08

Not sure a hand held steamer would be more or less masculine TBH, it's a gadget but it's someone very invested in crease free clothes.

I hadn't noticed he was missing any body parts (but it's not compulsory to be sans-penis to be a woman, is it?!). 🙈🤣

Handheld steamer sounds like there could be a melting risk. Ouchy!

What about our privacy and dignity? It's fucking sad that men don't respect us enough to stay out when they aren't wanted, isn't it?

Yes sorry, my bad of course your husband (presumably now your wife) can have a lady peen.

MuchasSmoochas · 22/06/2024 23:11

I’m not fighting about toilets, I’m fighting about education, crime and punishment, social welfare and employment.

Mother Nature creates intersex humans and animals. Nature is not binary.

People who are 'intersex' are people with differences in sex development. They are still male or female. For example someone with Kilnfelter syndrome is male but has an additional x chromosome so their chromosome is xxy. There is more info here. https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/differences-in-sex-development/

nhs.uk

Differences in sex development

Find out about differences in sex development (DSDs), a group of rare conditions where the reproductive organs and genitals don't develop as expected. Some people prefer to use the term intersex.

I haven’t answered because I have no expertise in the area of elderly care. And I think each issue should be dealt with with care, consideration and understanding not just banging on about it on mumsnet.

Oh come off it. And who the fuck mentioned elderly care? I’m talking about young profoundly disabled women like Hen Freeman (google her) who do not want to be cared for by people with penises, and who is vilified as a bigot by halfwits.

Educate yourself.

Interesting that is what you take from the thread.

Being concerned about male violence and maintaining women's right to boundaries aren't mutually exclusive thoughts you know. Most of us can manage to be concerned about both.

ZiriForGood · 22/06/2024 23:15

SergeantDawkins · 22/06/2024 22:59

Some people are so bloody literal. No wonder we can’t use any nuance to deal with this.

There is no need for nuance.

There are male people and female people. Sometimes it doesn't matter and all people are mixed together, sometimes there are reasons to separate them. The reasone can be primarily biological (different metabolism means drugs work differently) or based on topics as safety and dignity.

There are some activities or preferences which are habitually connected with one of those groups, even when there is no biological reason. There is no real reason why male person couldn't wear skirt or makeup (I know males who do both and have no trans inclinations whatsoever), there is no reason male people couldn't iron their shirt, there is no reason male person couldn't do any stereotypically but nonbiologically feminine thing and remain male (and men) while doing so.

No, compare it to your key word.
There is no situation in human society when we habitually divide people based on gender identity. Gender identity is a rather new concept and many people don't have one.

Why should we replace the sex based division which is objective and works reasonably well with some nuances based subjective nonsense?

Bad things are done to women by men who have access to them, hence why it's by men they know.
What do you think happens when you give access to women to a whole lot more men?

Yes we’d rather tell women to stay away from men than tell men to stop hurting women

Do you feel the same way about trans identified males being placed in women's prisons? Or nurses having to get changed with a man who identifies as a woman?
