He's 11 months old, poor little thing . Fortunately he's going to be ok - he got off quite lightly, I think - but it was scary and he was really poorly for a day or so. Spent 10 hours in A&E yesterday while he had chest x-rays, blood tests, IV fluids etc. Now we're just waiting to see if his sister, who's 2, gets it - she's had one dose of MMR already so fingers crossed she's immune.

We live in an area where immunisation rates are among the lowest in the country. Now I have to go and tell all parents of the other babies he's met recently that their children might be at risk as well...

ooh thanks km I'd forgotten that..

yurt1 · 16/04/2008 23:23

can you give the link again KM or I will have to read the thread again

yurt1 · 16/04/2008 23:25

stuffit- IPV is pretty safe ,

Just watch out for guillane barre from flu shots. Friend;s broter has had his life destroyed by this (not sure it was from the flu shot though may just have been random).

Yurt1 the truth will come out. It may not make headline news and it may be a watered down version but it will come out. There are enough of us now who have damaged kids and who have found out what has happened to them and who are fighting to not have that happen to others. It is that this is what it took but the movement is too big now. Surely?

stuffitllama · 16/04/2008 23:27

Guillane Barre was my main concern, I know a child with GB. Kerry I've saved your link thanks. I'll do it for you Yurt.

stuffitllama · 16/04/2008 23:28

et
voila

stuffitllama · 16/04/2008 23:30

Twice is nice..

I did predict to my dh that as soon as mercury was taken out of infant jabs then the CDC and other authorities might ease off a little on their flat denial -- because they could then say it was in the past. I still believe this will happen, and to a tiny extent, is happening.

yurt1 · 16/04/2008 23:31

frightening stuff KM. There;s all the stuff about monkey virus and OPV as well (will increase cancers apparently).

Beachcomber- it won't. Look at whooping cough vaccine. Everyone knows it brain damaged a number of kids. But officially it didn't

It was interesting how, when the MMR furore began, there were fresh articles about the whooping cough vaccine "scare" and how it had been discredited. The deep background PR is quite impressive.

stuffitllama · 16/04/2008 23:33

Now I really do sound Watergate.. must to bed. Thanks to all.

Beachcomber · 16/04/2008 23:36

Sadly agree with yurt that if your child does suffer an immediate adverse reaction you will be told that it is a coincidence or your imagination or all manner of other insulting bullshit.

Even worse, once you've picked up the pieces and figured out what might be wrong with your child, you will find the majority of medics either useless or reluctant to listen and help. This is my experience and the experience of every parent I have encountered through the support group.

yurt1 · 16/04/2008 23:36

this is ancient 2002 by nick hornby. BUt well written and still true today imo.

I'm off to bed now. But you need to read the latest CryShame and how Max Clifford is getting involved There may be fewer BBC (British biased corporation) articles that don't bother to even remotely look for the truth.

I'm off to bed now. KM- thanks for posting that - really appreciated. You know what I mean,

beachcomber some of the kids I know have suffered an almost immediate reaction. Seizuire/encephalitis/bog bowel changes out of the blue and still been told it's nothing to do with the vaccine, Any potential adverse reaction should be reported. They're not.

yurt1 · 16/04/2008 23:38

bog big

Do you really think so yurt? Maybe you're right, it's crazy to think that the little guy with truth on his side might win.

One of the main obstacles is that people want to believe in vaccination as a Good Thing with no grey areas so they welcome the PR. This thread is a pretty good example of this. But hey, there are plenty of dissenting voices and I for one have really appreciated sharing info and opinions.

Night stuffitllama, I read all your posts with interest.

yurt1 · 16/04/2008 23:42

ds1 had OPV in 1999 as well. I remember there being a furore shortly afterwards, but this was pre-dx of ds1/realising there was anything wrong and I only heard it vaguely on the news.

yurt1 · 16/04/2008 23:43

" it's crazy to think that the little guy with truth on his side might win"

absolutely. If you read cryshame hearing diaries they have nothing to nail Wakefield with, but I;m sure he will be nailed.

Beachcomber · 16/04/2008 23:44

So true what you say about immediate reaction yurt. Many of those involved in the thwarted UK litigation seemed to have had this sort of experience. No wonder their Legal Aid was pulled.

Beachcomber · 16/04/2008 23:50

I have been following the cryshame hearing diaries, very interesting.

Have you read the latest instalment which describes how incorrect information was 'leaked' to the press?

There was a post about this earlier, somone triumphantly reporting that Dr Wakefield had 'admitted' to unethical procedure, seen it on the BBC so must be true. Apparantly the BBC have said that they will not retract even though it is utter bullshit. No doubt the unfounded rumour will be all around the media and the press in no time.

I can't believe that they will commit political suicide by clearing Wakefield et al but what are they going to be able to make stick?
