Toilet cubicle etiquette

Female toilets in work. As per diagram.
AIBU that C is the 'correct' choice of cubicle, assuming all cubicles are empty upon entry?

I was just in cubicle C, and someone entered moments behind me, and went into B. I think that's madness and can't fathom why, out of the two remaining cubicles available, you'd opt to go into the one right next to someone. curious to know if others would have done the same.

I believe that statistically, A is apparently the cleanest cubicle, due to it being used least.

YABU: B is a good cubicle choice, I like to be in the middle of things.
YANBU: B is madness and should only be selected when A and C are otherwise engaged.

I always use the first free cubicle I find. I don’t care if you are in the next cubicle or if there is an empty cubicle between us.
There are no rules.

flossie232 · 20/06/2024 10:52

I honestly don't think it matters. They are private, contained cubicles. If you're worried about your neighbour hearing something you don't want them to hear, I don't think there's much difference between A or B.

I can't believe you've gone as far as to create a diagram for this total non issue 😂

Elphame · 20/06/2024 10:52

Do people actually think/worry about these things?

The world is a very strange place. First clean one is fine by me.

Pootles34 · 20/06/2024 10:53

Yeah this isn't like blokes at a urinal - it's a cubicle, so anything goes.

AnotherCountryMummy · 20/06/2024 10:54

Complete non-issue.

PetulantPenguin · 20/06/2024 10:54

Agree with previpus posters, I just go whatever cubicle I see first.

Trickabrick · 20/06/2024 10:54

I’m with you OP, I always leave an empty cubicle between myself and others if possible.

MaryBethMayfair · 20/06/2024 10:55

Oh dear, I assumed it would be obvious that this was a light-hearted pondering as opposed to "worrying" about it. Diagram because I'm having a very slow work-day and it killed 30 seconds.

Seems everything must be clearly stated on MN these days. Ah well.

Apparently so... Who knew.

I literally go into any cubicle at random there's no thought process behind it. Confused

allaboardtheplaybus · 20/06/2024 10:55

Haha this has made me chuckle. Who actually puts that much thought into which cubicle they use?

The only time I would think about it is if I plan to drop a number two, in which case I'd go as far from another occupied one, but for a wee I wouldn't give it any thought.

GaspingGekko · 20/06/2024 10:56

I don't agree about C being the correct choice over A. But I do agree that I only use a cubicle next to someone else if there isn't another free.

hopscotcher · 20/06/2024 10:56

OMG what weird madness is this?!

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 20/06/2024 10:57

The thing about the one furthest from the door being the cleanest is a fallacy, because that's what everyone thinks and so that's the one they choose.
Put this nonsense out of your head - it's not worth worrying about.

19lottie82 · 20/06/2024 10:57

I think spending so much time thinking about this is actually batshit behaviour.

henlake7 · 20/06/2024 10:57

I like to leave a gap....gives me the illusion that Im peeing in private!😁

keylimedog · 20/06/2024 10:57

With only three cubicles and one at the end full, the central being out of use (because obviously you can't go next to each other!) and the other being next to the door the only option honestly is to wait in the corridor until you were done and then use it.

darkchocolatecoffee · 20/06/2024 10:57

OP I agree with you. It’s weird to go into the middle cubicle when the one next to it is occupied. I didn’t think it was the ‘done thing’ so am surprised to read others opinions here!

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 20/06/2024 10:58

This is definitely a consideration for urinals 😱but wouldn't think about this for cubicles.

Talipesmum · 20/06/2024 11:01

I don’t think this is a thing for cubicles - they’re all private so totally different from urinals (where your logic applies fine).

I guess from these responses a few people think the same as you but probably not many. Most wouldn’t think about it at all.

Topofthemountain · 20/06/2024 11:02

I would use B at my work because C is the slightly adapted one (just additional grabrails), the door also opens outwards and I am paranoid I haven't locked it. I use C if the others aren't free.

LittleGreenDragons · 20/06/2024 11:03

I prefer to leave a cubicle free in-between too. Not sure if I would use A or C, but probably C.

Ignore the other posters, this is a fine problem to post about on a slow work day.

MereDintofPandiculation · 20/06/2024 11:05

Toilet paper is my first requirement, clean seat second. Who is next to me doesn't even enter.

sandstormsy · 20/06/2024 11:05

I'm with you OP. It's like when people park right next to you in an empty car park or sit next to you on an empty bus.

whatkatysdoingnow · 20/06/2024 11:08

B only if A is engaged and/or out of toilet roll and/or a mess. It's like @sandstormsy said - like seats on a bus. You just don't.

Idontjetwashthefucker · 20/06/2024 11:10

The only sensible choice of cubicle is the first one you go in that's clean
