Toilet cubicle etiquette

Female toilets in work. As per diagram.
AIBU that C is the 'correct' choice of cubicle, assuming all cubicles are empty upon entry?

I was just in cubicle C, and someone entered moments behind me, and went into B. I think that's madness and can't fathom why, out of the two remaining cubicles available, you'd opt to go into the one right next to someone. curious to know if others would have done the same.

I believe that statistically, A is apparently the cleanest cubicle, due to it being used least.

YABU: B is a good cubicle choice, I like to be in the middle of things.
YANBU: B is madness and should only be selected when A and C are otherwise engaged.

I think you’re weird to have an opinion about this, just go and have a piss and go out

OfDragonsDeep · 20/06/2024 11:57

I used to think about this a lot when I worked in an office. The cubicles nearest the door were for wees and the ones further down for poos. Most people seemed to follow this pattern too.

Always leave a gap if possible, same as on machines at the gym.

C1N1C · 20/06/2024 11:58

I'm a guy and I agree with OP. The same consideration goes into cubicle selection as it does with urinal selection.

The furthest away first, then odd number... e.g. 5, then 3, then 1. Other options might be 5, then 1, then 3 so you're as far away from the other cubicle as possible.

You don't want people to pass you as they can hear you, and you don't want them next to you as they can most certainly hear you. You need a noise buffer!
Also, you might be able to see under the stall if adjacent and recognise them... noone wants to be associated with those sounds and smells.

Guys actually give a massive amount or consideration to this!

Apollo365 · 20/06/2024 12:02

I’d go for B

Might not be a pee though.

Yanbu top diagram btw

Trickabrick · 20/06/2024 10:54

I’m with you OP, I always leave an empty cubicle between myself and others if possible.

So do I.

NightPuffins · 20/06/2024 12:05

I go into the nearest one available. If I went in the door there I would use A. If A was occupied I would go in B. I wouldn't give it much thought beyond this!

Annielou67 · 20/06/2024 12:05

This is fun and not an issue. I agree with you OP - C first. Don’t go to a ‘next to’ cubicle given the choice.
If you need to poo do you wait til everyone has gone? - that is for us poor souls with IBS etc. Do you flush to try to drown out sounds? Or cough? I think my insecurities are coming out.

IWantToBeASleepingCat · 20/06/2024 12:06

Most people avoid the first cubicle..
So l try to use it .. statistics says it's usually the cleanest..
But this is only if no disabled ones.

Funkyslippers · 20/06/2024 12:08

I go to any one at random. At least if you're next to someone you can pass each other loo roll if needed 🤣

sanogo · 20/06/2024 12:10

I once received a police caution for going in to the wrong empty cubicle

settingss · 20/06/2024 12:10

You are absolutely being weird here

what if the toilet furthest away from you is filthy, lacks loo roll, has flooded etc? There’s no end of reasons why using an alternative cubical is suitable. has nothing to do with you!

Then you leave the toilet and go back 10 minutes later, or drive home to go to the toilet, or go to a local Tesco or something.

settingss · 20/06/2024 12:16

@Megifer no, you don’t.

NeverEnoughPants · 20/06/2024 12:19

In my work, A is the accessible toilet, so if someone was in C (which is my first choice) I would use B. I would only use A if both the others were occupied.

Megifer · 20/06/2024 12:20

settingss · 20/06/2024 12:16

@Megifer no, you don’t.

Im afraid it's the only acceptable thing to do 😔

Then consider getting a catheter so you're never in this situation again 🔨 (<- that's supposed to be a gavel btw)

Aussieland · 20/06/2024 12:22

i would use A if the bathroom was empty. If someone was A I would use C. B is only for use if no other options. If B is the only one in use I would assume the person in it had no other option or were a psychopath. YA totally NBU OP

redskydarknight · 20/06/2024 12:23

If it's work toilets then I have my hierarchy of "favourites" in order (this is to do with general state of repair of the toilet/cubicle, positioning of toilet roll dispenser and avoiding the one where the flush is a bit dodgy).

If it's a random set of cubicles I don't use normally, I'd leave a gap.

Bearbookagainandagain · 20/06/2024 12:27

When I don't think about it, I take the closest one. Therefore I always thought the farthest was the cleanest, but now I realise some people (like you) thinks the opposite so my grand strategy is ruined... Damn it...!

User1974 · 20/06/2024 12:28

This applies to men stood at urinals and those squat loos that have no partitions - not cubicles.

PuppyMonkey · 20/06/2024 12:30

I can honestly say, I’ve never ever thought about this issue before and just go in with no pre-determined pattern or policy in place. Sometimes it would be the middle, other times the far end. I’m a massive failure.

DilemmaDelilah · 20/06/2024 12:33

I would always choose to use the cubicle furthest away from one that is occupied UNLESS I needed a bigger cubicle (some are slightly wider and with pull open doors rather than push) OR other cubicles were dirty, wet, or had no toilet paper.

Hb7x3 · 20/06/2024 12:35

It wouldn't even cross my mind, I just head for whatever one I see and check it's clean enough to use.

dementedpixie · 20/06/2024 12:35

Who cares??
Maybe she had a preferred cubicle and that happens to be B. At the sports centre I often use the middle one as the end one has a dodgy flusher and the first one has a wonky seat.
