Taskmaster rip off

ChedderGorgeous · 19/06/2024 21:02

As a taskmaster fan I eagerly awaited the taskmaster live experience where you will get to compete in taskmaster style tasks with friends/ family. Turns out most tickets are £100 pp* for 65mins. That's £4-500 for a family day (hour) out !! I think this is either quite frankly greedy of the organisers or they have miscalculated affordable costs to pass on. AIBU to think they should rethink their ticket prices and not be such twats?

*a few tickets mid week appeared to be £50 but v few.

I might go back in and see the ticket availability, wonder if it’s sold out yet! 😜

Spoiler- it won’t be.

I think, somewhat irrationally, I think of little Alex Horne and Taskmaster as "good guys". This is based on nothing of course. Turns out "they" are completely out of touch

Alex is absolutely lovely. He's really hardworking and talented. His managers are really really hard nosed however. But he's a delightful bloke.

Well this does nothing for his reputation.

lots of similar comments on twitter.

The whole way it has been marketed feels like it was done by a work experience child who had read a text book on "innovative marketing" and thought he was a genius.

Well he needs to have to sense to realise his reputation will be affected by things like this.

Peakyshelby · 20/06/2024 08:06

Well that has saved me clicking on the link. Not paying £400 quid for an hour of entertainment. Bet a lot will though

Some slots have sold and I imagine for a corporate team building event or something like a stag do (where each person pays their share) it might feel more reasonable .

But certainly there are huge numbers of available slots and only a handful sold (from the quick glance I did)

TheCrenchinglyMcQuaffenBrothers · 20/06/2024 08:13

Just had a look at comments on Reddit, so there’s 14 people per group and if you’re going in a 4 say, you could find yourself lumped in with ten strangers on a Stag or Hen do - no thanks. I’ve got more of an issue with that than the price tbh.

ExtraOnions · 20/06/2024 08:15

They hold it in London … which just adds to the expense. Train tickets, hotels etc. A cheaper city might have sweetened the deal a bit.

Anyhow, seems like everyone who entered “won” the ballot.

Looks like it’s all a bit of a mess.

For all of you talking about watching the live show, you can sign up for free tickets to the studio bit here https://www.sroaudiences.com/

I stupidly thought I was getting live tickets for the actual show with the comedians

I stupidly thought the same 😂

So did I 😂

DH loves Taskmaster so I thought it would be a nice treat. £100 a pop can fuck right off.

I wonder how many people out of those who signed up “won” the ballot

MetOffice · 20/06/2024 13:08

To be fair to them, I've just checked again and there are lots of £50 tickets available in November and December. Still eye wateringly expensive for 65 minutes, but not £100pp as people are mentioning up thread.

MetOffice · 20/06/2024 13:11

Plus the minimum age is 9, and although I'm sure my eldest would enjoy it, I'm not sure he would enjoy competing against a load of random adults in the group of 14. So seems very unlikely DC would make it to the final 5 stage challenge.

itsnotabouthepasta · 20/06/2024 13:14

I've bought two midweek tickets at £50pp but that's for my 40th birthday, so I felt it was about right to pay for an activity for 2 of us, but the £100 was utter greed.

Especially when it's groups of 14 people every 15 minutes—that's £5,600 an HOUR x 8 hours a day = £44,800 a day

itsnotabouthepasta · 20/06/2024 13:15

I do think the marketing of the experience was bad however. It wasn't really clear what the live experience was - I actually thought it was in the actual TM house - I wasn't daft enough to think that Greg and Alex would be there, but I was expecting to have to go to Chiswick

BloodandGlitter · 20/06/2024 13:17

You can buy the game from amazon for £8/£9 probably about the same experience.

Bobbotgegrinch · 20/06/2024 13:28

Not sure how anyones been "ripped off" exactly. It's explained fairly clearly what it is and the prices are there for you to see. Yes, its expensive, but it's not like they've conned anyone.

The Wonka thing was a rip off, people bought tickets based on a bunch of fake AI images and lies, so didn't get the experience they reasonably expected.

Its fine to be disappointed that something you want to do is more expensive that you're willing to pay for it, but I just think calling it a rip-off is a bit rich when noones even experienced it yet.

Yes I agree with that . The marketing was terrible though and I think that is what has triggered the upset

Hi Alex!!

Jokes- I think it’s very grubby. Calling it a ballot like it was some of draw for a great deal. It’s poor form.

JusteanBiscuits · 20/06/2024 15:08

Yes. Same. Gutted

TeresaCrowd · 20/06/2024 17:08

I went for tickets on a weekend Nov and they were almost all £50pp, only peak Saturday lunchtime was £££ which I guess is to be expected as an uplift.

5foot5 · 20/06/2024 17:32

You could get 60 minutes in a good escape room for a quarter of that price.

BTW I know someone who did the Crystal Maze experience. He said it wasn't actually as good as expected because you get to do two rooms each but the rest of the time you are just watching the others and cheering them on. Like in the show I guess, but not really very good value for money

Cattyisbatty · 20/06/2024 17:40

DD - massive fan - said the same. Nvm.
we saw the show being filmed last year (we were VIPs as Dh has a contact there).

ShwingShwingShwing · 20/06/2024 17:55

I thought the same! Was going to organise as a surprise for DH but it’s too much money when you include travel etc.

it doesn’t look like tickets are going very fast though so I’m holding out for a possible reduce in prices
