Taskmaster rip off

ChedderGorgeous · 19/06/2024 21:02

As a taskmaster fan I eagerly awaited the taskmaster live experience where you will get to compete in taskmaster style tasks with friends/ family. Turns out most tickets are £100 pp* for 65mins. That's £4-500 for a family day (hour) out !! I think this is either quite frankly greedy of the organisers or they have miscalculated affordable costs to pass on. AIBU to think they should rethink their ticket prices and not be such twats?

*a few tickets mid week appeared to be £50 but v few.

The ballot was clearly to get priority tickets because they were worried tickets might sell out

And all the emails I had seemed clear it was for a live experience, taking part in challenges against friends and family, not the live show.

It's now somewhat unclear exactly how it works in terms of being in the top 5....

And it did seem like you'd book as a family group and compete against each other. 14 is much bigger group than I expected

Whether it's a rip off or not will only become apparent once the event itself happens

I don't imagine it was because they were worried tickets would sell out, I expect it was to try and create a feeling of "scarcity" in an attempt to make people buy fast /be prepared to pay more.

But it was pretty naff and see through as a marketing tactic

I agree, I knew it wasn't a show but a live experience. And we like doing things like escape rooms and know they cost a fair amount but this seems very over priced

I have an email that says "we don't know if we'll have enough tickets for everyone"

They had people sign up before they even knew it was viable to see if the interest was there. They knew how many people had shown interest and how many people they could accommodate.

There probably was a good chance, at a reasonable price, they could sell out

Same, got sent the link for the ‘lottery’ and got excited then realised it was £100 a pop. Scammy bastards.

SugarPlumFairyCakes · 20/06/2024 20:00

So disappointed. I don't think the lottery was clear at all and would not want to do within a group of 14 randoms. The cost is extortionate, the £50 tickets not available when taking into account travel time. With travel for 4 of us, just not financially viable and doesn't seem value for money. Happy to pay and travel for War of the World's or Gunpowder Plot experience, which are excellent!

You could get 60 minutes in a good escape room for a quarter of that price.

BTW I know someone who did the Crystal Maze experience. He said it wasn't actually as good as expected because you get to do two rooms each but the rest of the time you are just watching the others and cheering them on. Like in the show I guess, but not really very good value for money

I did it as a corporate event at Christmas.

You can do as many rooms as you want, as a team, but there’s a set number of rooms - so if you do it “fairly”, everyone does two. It’s quite cramped and some of the rooms are a lot funner than others… but really it all hinges massively on who your host is. The more eccentric ones are better than the quieter ones, but you have to be able to gel with the person you get, too. One group for us got someone who liked to insult everyone a lot, which they didn’t like… ours was good, a bit “crazy” but a good host.

It all leads back round to a bar, so you can have a drink before you go. The final bit is quite dull for anyone who didn’t do well, it’s a loonnngggg time of waiting for the teams to all have a go in the dome, and then the counting process.

Peclet · 21/06/2024 08:49

Hmmmm yes it sounds more and more like an escape room type thing. £100/4 people would be reasonable!

Anyway.

I’m not sure whatbrheb’lottert’ was about … deffo no savings offered for me

Ms389389 · 28/06/2024 21:16

Sorry if I’m being rude, but if you’d REALLY been wanting to go see a live taping with the comedians, you’d already know there is a separate website and signup for it. This was clearly something else. Im sorry it upset you to find out otherwise, but this experience was clearly listed as something else. No one to blame but yourself.

My 16 year old daughter naively decided she'd like to surprise us with Task master tickets, not realising that it wasn't the live show, and spent £280 of her hard earned money to buy the tickets. Like others on here, she got really excited and felt pressured to buy the tickets asap, as it was hyped up that you needed to get them quickly to avoid disappointment, and she was placed in a queue. When we realised what she'd bought, we emailed to try and get a refund but they have point blank refused, as she ticked the box agreeing to the terms and conditions (which she obviously didn't read, because she's 16!). We feel totally let down by Taskmaster. It's left a sour taste, that's for sure. We've got to try and resell them now, as we can't (and don't want) to go. 😡

That’s awful and I’d be absolutely livid. But what a really lovely daughter you have.
