To be angry at sisters Eras tour present??

I have two tween DDs who are Taylor obsessed atm. Was gutted when I didn’t get a code to get them tickets.

Well yesterday my sister came round, and told me she had a surprise for the girls. Three eras tour tickets for me and the girls!! The girls (and me) were so excited, youngest ran off to show her aunt what outfit she was going to wear, and oldest kept announcing that it was the best day of her life.

and then my sister said: “it’s a good thing your DH has the weekend off too, he can drive you to the airport!”. Well I felt like bingo in that one episode of bluey. Airport? I’m not going to the airport?

Turns out the tickets are in London. This Sunday. We live in Ireland. My sister bought the tickets, but now I’ll have to book flights and hotel. I have work on Monday so I’ll have to try book that off. We have a family holiday coming up as well as my best friends hen party so really do not have the money for flights and a hotel, if I can even find a hotel this late notice.

I just wish she’d come to me first before telling the girls, as now I’m either going to have to crush their dreams or somehow find a few hundred quid to get us all to London.

AIBU to be so angry at my sister (even tho I think she thought she was doing a nice thing.) and to think that a present should not put the recipient out of pocket…. Sorry I actually don’t even know what I’m expecting people to say back I’m just in need of a good rant.

I'm going on Sunday too. Doors open at 15:45 with Benson Boone on at 16:40 so you won't have long to kill after your flight.

Madamum18 · 21/06/2024 14:09

Dozycuntlaters Not sure how genuine this post is as there was a post about this from the sister yesterday....who concluded that she would now give her sister a different gift and just use the tickets herself

No that was just a day trip to London. Nothing to do with Eras tour!

pinkyspromises · 21/06/2024 14:16

Ffs

is she mad?

Lkjhgdsrtgbjjm · 21/06/2024 16:09

That sounds like it's all worked out nicely with the flights. Surely you don't need to take much? The weather is good so it's not like you need coats etc. A pair of clean knickers, a clean top and your toothbrushes and you'll be grand!

Have a fantastic time. It's lovely that your parents and MIL are helping too.

listsandbudgets · 21/06/2024 16:16

Glad you've decided to go OP and that you and your girls enjoy every moment.

I saw someone above linked to Stasher. If you need a different location from those available which look like mainly mainline stations, try Radical Storage. We had to use them in Brighton recently and it was great - booked, dumped our bags at a late night newsagent and came back to grab them about 8pm

Just make sure where ever your choose has the right opening hours for you

^ For some reason this has linkeed to the italian site for radical storage!! Take the /it off the end of web address. I've absolutely no idea why it's doing this

listsandbudgets · 21/06/2024 16:26

PS well done your DDs will look back on this in a couple of decades and really appreciate having a mum who dropped everything and a few hundred pounds so they could do something that meant so much to them. Star

SuperFishy · 21/06/2024 16:44

Sounds like a great idea for a GoFundme or appeal to your friends on Facebook.

shazshaz · 21/06/2024 17:43

Just remember your bag for entry to Wembley can't be any larger than A4 size. Would your relative be willing to hide a spare key somewhere or leave a key with a neighbour for you to collect?

EachandEveryone · 21/06/2024 18:00

How far away is your relative?

comingintomyown · 21/06/2024 18:04

Nice ending I hope you have a really lovely time with your DDs 🌸

BiscuityBoyle · 21/06/2024 18:15

Glad you got the flights booked. How far away is the relative? Which airport are you coming into?

Eh? Perhaps read the thread, just a thought

HopefulOptimistic · 22/06/2024 09:47

Been following this thread and am so excited for you and your girls. Even though your sister didn't think the logistics through properly, she did a lovely thing. This is what memories are made of and you will surely never regret it. Can't wait to see how it all went.

Turquoise123 · 23/06/2024 09:27

Ah yes - presents that are not really presents ….I hear you

Iamthemoom · 23/06/2024 16:03

Have a great time. Glad you managed to sort it out. We went on Friday and it was an incredible show. Green Carpark merch store had very fast moving queue while the smaller stalls seemed way longer wait.

Welshmonster · 23/06/2024 23:53

Most stadiums you aren’t allowed to take in bags bigger than a piece of A4 paper.

it was naughty of sister not to give you notice as she could have still told them but given you heads up to sort out transport etc. what if all your passports had expired

bellabelly · 24/06/2024 00:02

Hope you all had a fabulous time! Well done for managing to make it all work - and I do think your sister was trying to do a really nice thing for your dds, just hadn't thought about the practicalities!

You don't need passports to travel Ireland to UK. It's in the Common Travel Area.

Runnerinthenight · 24/06/2024 00:27

OMG I know it's not the most convenient, but bloody hell, your sister has done an amazing thing for your DDs!! I have two crazed Swifties - though a lot older than yours! - and they would have been over the moon with this present! My pair are going twice, and they bought the tickets, though I have been stiffed with paying for flights from and to Europe for the younger one!!

I first took mine to see TS in 2011 when they were 14 and 12. TS came down off the stage and into the crowd - I spotted it happening and shoved them to the front of the line and TS held one of their hands and the other touched her too! Died and gone to heaven!! I imagine you've been now but trust me, this is a memory you will always cherish!

Usually you do if you are flying, some airlines might accept expired passport but most require valid passports

You just need ID.

Stasher do exactly the same type of locations as your suggestion, they aren't just train stations. I've used them multiple times in London and other cities.

Nope, as I said it's the Common Travel Area, which is an open border area with free movement. Airlines may request a form of ID, but there is no requirement to have a passport.

Ger1atricMillennial · 24/06/2024 05:10

I honestly cannot believe some people telling you to be grateful. It's a concert not a kidney.

This gift was never about the kids, it was about the gifter. If it had been about the kids she would have checked with you first, rather than putting you in this ridiculous position.

I hope you enjoyed the concert, and everything went well.
