Cat Deeley making fun of epilepsy

AIBU in thinking that any tv presenter who ridicules people with serious health conditions should not be in post? This is what I think about Cat Deeley ridiculing people with epilepsy during This morning yesterday. People like this should not be tv presenters because of their intolerance and making fun of children and adults with epilepsy. AIBU?

what did she say ?

Sirzy · 18/06/2024 19:00

With no context it’s hard for anyone to judge

AtrociousCircumstance · 18/06/2024 19:00

She was making a self deprecating comment about her dancing and got it wrong. It was good she apologised, but I don’t think she should be cancelled because of it.

TwattyMcFuckFace · 18/06/2024 19:00

Nah, you're probably going to have to tell us what she said? 🤷‍♂️

AtrociousCircumstance · 18/06/2024 19:00

She compared her dancing to having a seizure.

NuffSaidSam · 18/06/2024 19:01

I think she was just a bit insensitive with her choice of language rather than setting out to 'make fun of epilepsy'.

She made a mistake. Has been called out. Has apologised.

Why do you want more than that?

BustyMcgoober · 18/06/2024 19:01

I’ve just had to google. She apologised for dancing by saying something like Ooops I was having a seizure.

Hardly the same as mocking people with epilepsy; she’s apologised and trying to cancel people for saying things like this that are in common parlance is ridiculous. Everyone knows what she meant.

PossumintheHouse · 18/06/2024 19:02

Bloody hell. She made a not-great joke, got it wrong, and has since apologised.

ClaustrophobicKipper · 18/06/2024 19:02

She was dancing and said her dancing made her look like she was "having a seizure"

I personally dont see the harm, and i miss the days where you could joke and be silly freely

LlynTegid · 18/06/2024 19:02

Cat Deeley has apologised for her insensitive comment. If there was a pattern of such comments, then I would agree with her being replaced, but this does seem to be something as a one-off.

Unlike a certain Daily Mail columnist, or the leader/dictator of Reform UK.

Pigeonqueen · 18/06/2024 19:03

I think people are being ridiculous about this. I say that as someone with complex disabilities. She made a joke, it didn’t go well and she apologised. Everyone is so quick to jump on everyone now.

cardibach · 18/06/2024 19:03

That’s not making fun of people with epilepsy. It’s an ill judged attempt at making fun of herself.

TwattyMcFuckFace · 18/06/2024 19:04

Oh right, well I hope you've never made a mistake at work OP and blurted something out that you regretted and apologised for?

Would you be ok with people like yourself baying to have you sacked?

Totally agree!

sandyhappypeople · 18/06/2024 19:05

I've got epilepsy, the 'sorry I was having a seizure' type thing has never bothered me in the slightest, I do find it funny most the time, assuming the delivery is on point.

Bottom line is you can choose to be offended by things or you can see the funny side of life, she didn't say it to offend, she was taking the mickey out of her own dancing.. probably a bit risky for daytime telly though.

bergamotorange · 18/06/2024 19:05

It was an unacceptable remark, but she has apologised and I think that's sufficient.

This

I have a child with severe epilepsy. Tbh I can't get too upset about it all now I have read the comment.
It was a clumsy joke but wasn't an attempt to ridicule epilepsy sufferers rather take the micky out of herself.
She has apologised and that should be that. No need for her to be sacked. We have all suffered from foot in mouth once in a while surely.

Errors · 18/06/2024 19:08

When will everyone stop taking life so seriously

protectoroftherealm · 18/06/2024 19:08

She didn't 'ridicule' anyone other than herself though did she? A little ill-judged comment perhaps but absolutely no ridicule. Asked my epileptic sister if she was offended today, she laughed, said not at all and said 'besides you dance like you're having a seizure too'.

gamerchick · 18/06/2024 19:09

Is this what we do now. People make a small fuck up, apologise for it and get their lives ruined anyway?

Goes to show how quick people can turn on you and bay for blood.

Lampzade · 18/06/2024 19:10

She made a silly self deprecating ‘joke’ and has apologised.
People need to calm down fgs

Fun is dead. Ever since the normies invaded the Internet and took offence at everything. Now everything is a microaggression and only the most bland, insipid humour is allowed.

Meraas · 18/06/2024 19:10

She sounded like a clumsy oaf in the 2000s, sounds like she hasn’t changed.

It’s everywhere. Even in MN threads that are full of holes because everything anyone says is breaking the talk guidelines
