to expect some old timers of MN to be twirling & scuttling around still

Haven't been here for probably 15+ years. Went absent, never dipped back in . But today something made me think of the MN support, the laughs, life's highs & lows shared when insomnia kicked after my little DDs were tucked up in bed.

DDs are grown and flown the nest. On reflection it was time well spent. Even the cliquey and other shitty bits. Hope you all keep twirling and scuttling around. If you're new keep with it, it will all pan out.

Penis beaker brought a lot of new people to the site, prompting the old guard to moan that it wasn’t what it used to be etc.

AbstemiousBreakfast · 15/06/2024 23:51

Oh yes @busnumbernine, I recognise all of those names!

Someone also mentioned Xenia earlier - she clearly lived a very different life to most of the rest of us, and often stated her unusual viewpoints quite robustly. This is where MN can be great - showing you glimpses of other people's lives across the whole spectrum.

i wonder if she still owns that island.

Turkeyhen · 15/06/2024 23:53

I joined in 2002 iirc - it was more fun back then but so cliquey.

Ask her, she's still here!

Wincher · 15/06/2024 23:56

My eldest is 14 but I was definitely on here several years before he was born. You used to be able to find your member number somehow - anyone remember how?
I was on the same birth group as the "your minge" person and I'm still FB friends with her!
I certainly remember lots of free trials and the secret santas and the cliquieness. I still read MN every day though!

tizalinatuna · 16/06/2024 00:02

20 years for me too and few of the jaw dropping and supportive moments there used to be. It's bigger, riddled with judgey wealthy people (mind you Xenia has been here for ever too), just a bit nasty but I can't stop checking in.

JaffavsCookie · 16/06/2024 00:02

Been here 20+ years, never a prolific poster, never mn royalty, many name changes
not as funny, too many professionally offended, probs should leave tbh

BringMeSunshineAllDayLong · 16/06/2024 00:13

Ive been here around 18 years. It was very middle class and quite wanky(not just the basket. Got bigger and better, much to the upset of the above then they sold their soul to the Daily Mail and it got a lot worse. Still enjoy it though.

Been here 13 years with a few name changes.

Came over to the dark side from Net Mums (huns)

Agree with those saying it's a more sensitive place now. Ive managed to go for 13 years without having any posts removed then I've had posts deleted twice in recent weeks for the most spurious of reasons. Presumably reported by the OP. Bit heavy handed with the moderation at times.

What's the difference between netmums and Mumsnet? I (as a new mum and new to this forum) thought Mumsnet was just bigger and more popular?

Did Mumsnet just slowly become very big? It's so fascinating to read posters donated to keep Mumsnet alive!

ErrolTheDragon · 16/06/2024 00:17

Must be nearly 20 years for me now. I mostly stay for the Gardening board nowadays plus random threads which catch my eye late at night.

SanFranBear · 16/06/2024 00:20

DD turned 15 yesterday and I found MN when I was scared as needed an amnio to rule some stuff out when she was 15 weeks.

It's funny but I'd not really noticed just how much of the fun and silliness had gone but so many of you are right... one of the reasons I signed up was reading a pregnancy thread about vivid dreams and one of the posters said how she'd dreamed her baby was just an enormous thumb! Her turn of phrase was fabulous...

I made real life friends, many of whom I still see on FB, and made it to a MN meet up which was lovely...

And a breast-feeding thread where the poster said how her little, non-verbal baby had used the makaton for happy when feeding...

Funny what stays with you, isn't it? I'm not going anywhere as I do love this place but it is a very different site from times gone by...

nannynick · 16/06/2024 00:21

I know I am getting old when I recognise names mentioned on threads like this.
Been here since 2005 (I think), same username.

busnumbernine · 15/06/2024 23:44

Bupcakes always used to make me laugh. Getorf was another one and Hullly too. Clearly been here far too long

Getorfmoiland and HullyGully, god those names take me back! 😌

I donated during COVID with a monthly subscription, as I said, been here 20 years so had plenty out of the site, I can't work out how to cancel it but then I think actually I really enjoy it and hate adverts so ... I'm probably the only poster still paying it mind!

Garlicker · 16/06/2024 00:37

Oblomov24 · 15/06/2024 23:04

Has changed a lot.
I was surprised when the truth came out about LaQueen.

What truth, and how did I miss it??

I saw Xenia here recently, explaining to somebody that they're a loser for not sending their kids to a private school 😂

BeaFuddled · 16/06/2024 00:42

Not only does she claim to have put 5 kids through private school; she claims she paid their uni fees and living expenses (no student loans for her DC) and gifted them large house deposits. For London homes.

BeaFuddled · 16/06/2024 00:49

La/LeQueen told some "hilarious" tale about her husband cheating to get his degree. Can't remember if it was plagiarism or he paid someone or some such nonsense. Anyways ... people pointed out that her DH was identifiable and could get into trouble so she panicked and got MNHQ to pull every post she'd ever made.

I believe she was later banned for being a troll. Muppets had really fallen for her stories about being wealthy and vair clever and vair beautiful.

DeathWinsAGolfish · 16/06/2024 00:51

Been here 22 years with various name changes. Went to one meet up with BettySpaghetti, Littlefish and about 10 others in approx 2005?
It's a very different experience now.

Was it her who said her DH had parked a car somewhere and never found it again?

Hont1986 · 16/06/2024 00:55

As previous posters have said, it's a lot less cliquey. The days of MN Royalty and their fan clubs are long gone, and that's probably for the best.

SnowFrogJelly · 16/06/2024 01:26

I remember La Queen

Is Anyfucker still around

SweetGingerTea · 16/06/2024 01:29

Yeah, I've been here 23 years now. I've seen so many changes. Old MN was funny but could be 'othering' if not part of the clique.

Notmycircusnotmydonkeys · 16/06/2024 01:31

Another one who's been here a while, 18 years I think.
MN has kept me going through some of the very darkest days of parenting not to mention that it has offered hands to hold in the wee small hours when various family members have died/managed not to die, and through all the other sadness and silliness (pombear, anyone) of life.
It is both the best and the worst of all of us. I firmly believe that all human wisdom- and some Olympic level swearing - lurks somewhere on here.

ViciousCurrentBun · 16/06/2024 01:47

Been here just over 20 years, was a small site then and that’s how people recognised each other often. Met up with a couple of mnetters in real life and swapped gifts at Christmas through the post back when they had some sort of Christmas list, can’t remember exactly how it was run.

lovinglaughingliving · 16/06/2024 01:53

15yrs for me too. Many a name change!
I miss how funny it used to be, and read classics often!
