Haven't been here for probably 15+ years. Went absent, never dipped back in . But today something made me think of the MN support, the laughs, life's highs & lows shared when insomnia kicked after my little DDs were tucked up in bed.

DDs are grown and flown the nest. On reflection it was time well spent. Even the cliquey and other shitty bits. Hope you all keep twirling and scuttling around. If you're new keep with it, it will all pan out.

Has changed a lot.
I was surprised when the truth came out about LaQueen.

What truth?? 🍿

Been here 13 years with a few name changes.

Came over to the dark side from Net Mums (huns)

Agree with those saying it's a more sensitive place now. Ive managed to go for 13 years without having any posts removed then I've had posts deleted twice in recent weeks for the most spurious of reasons. Presumably reported by the OP. Bit heavy handed with the moderation at times.

thats the pickle with the mods, some are let it slide and others are the hammer so to speak

It seems like someone only has to report a dissenting viewpoint these days to get your post deleted.

It was shite then and it's still shite now.

I always assumed that they would just automatically delete a post if someone reported it…

i think some do, where as some are more flexable as half the time its down to interpretation rather than actual against the rules, as many have read the rules, then posted and it gets pulled even when its not listed in rules etc

UpNorth24 · 15/06/2024 23:20

Been here for over 18 years, numerous name changes and new accounts! Realised things had changed when a thread I wrote got pulled by the DM. Agree with a PP who said it's a city now, not a village. Used to feel very 'community' like and in same ways it still is but with more keyboard warriors.

I was really upset about something once. I had recently had my youngest so was a bit hormonal and I posted about it asking about advice (have NC lots of times so not under this one) and a few people responded nicely but many said this was a joke and reported my post. MN without even investigating anything deleted my thread and said there’s been lots of reports about this so we are taking it down. It was 100% real! I was not trolling or whatever the term is. It still upsets me as I was so vulnerable and literally had no one to talk it through with.

it was nothing to do with my child BTW, no safeguarding risk. It was just something I was upset about and people thought it was a joke. As a busy mum who has time to make up fake threads?!

Iggi999 · 15/06/2024 23:25

I think it's only changed in the way society has changed. I still get a lot of pleasure out of it.

ActualCannibalShiaLeBeouf · 15/06/2024 23:26

Oh God. I've been here since it was all fields. It's a very different place now, and not for the better.
Friday night used to be a laugh, regularly had threads crying out "Classics"! These days there's no laughs, hardly anything worthy of going to the great hall of Classics and everyone just wants to argue with everything you say.
Welcome back 😆

Funkyfizz · 15/06/2024 23:31

All the made up CF threads annoy the fuck out of me. All the characters and film casting leave me cold. All the gullible who need to be part of some made up bollocks are were MN seems to be at these days.

GanderingGoose · 15/06/2024 23:31

What was the truth about LeQueen

sweetsardineface · 15/06/2024 23:35

I’ve just realised that I’ve been here 20+ years too 😧 I still enjoy it, but do miss some of the really witty posters from years ago. It did feel much more like a community then.

AbstemiousBreakfast · 15/06/2024 23:39

I feel like I've been here since it was all fields, but even when I joined there were posters saying that they'd been here since it was all fields, and that everything had gone downhill 😄.

I probably think that neither then or now were / are perfect - then: very funny but sometimes cliquey; now: quite mixed, less familiar posters.

I'd completely forgotten about calls for threads to go into Classics - some posters were just so clever and witty, and I loved that - women really helping one another, but also having such a good laugh together.

Funkyfizz · 15/06/2024 23:42

And the endless Trans stuff, You can't have a conversation about Costa coffee or lush or M & S or most other shops without some one telling you they are boycotting it because Trans.

busnumbernine · 15/06/2024 23:44

Bupcakes always used to make me laugh. Getorf was another one and Hullly too. Clearly been here far too long

HRTQueen · 15/06/2024 23:48

I’ve been here 18ish years

more humour before or maybe it was one or two posters were more noticeable but it was also more cliquey

it’s larger now and maybe we have changed changes in society reflect on here

i can remember in my very early days it being said by some it wasn’t as good as the good old days

Icanflyhigh · 15/06/2024 23:48

I've been here for 20 years or so.... couple of name changes along the way x

Toastedalmonds · 15/06/2024 23:50

20 years here too, I'm still on all the time, it's better and worse in different ways. I'd miss it dreadfully though if it wasn't around anymore

AbstemiousBreakfast · 15/06/2024 23:51

Oh yes @busnumbernine, I recognise all of those names!

Someone also mentioned Xenia earlier - she clearly lived a very different life to most of the rest of us, and often stated her unusual viewpoints quite robustly. This is where MN can be great - showing you glimpses of other people's lives across the whole spectrum.

echt · 15/06/2024 23:52

Been here for about 18 years under the same name. MN isn't as funny or intelligent as it used to be. By that I mean AIBU and Chat aren't - other sub-forums are. I agree it's less cliquey.
