to expect some old timers of MN to be twirling & scuttling around still

Haven't been here for probably 15+ years. Went absent, never dipped back in . But today something made me think of the MN support, the laughs, life's highs & lows shared when insomnia kicked after my little DDs were tucked up in bed.

DDs are grown and flown the nest. On reflection it was time well spent. Even the cliquey and other shitty bits. Hope you all keep twirling and scuttling around. If you're new keep with it, it will all pan out.

It only just occurred to me yesterday that it has become a place with plenty of people that I would not attempt to have a sensible discussion with IRL. There used to be a few if them of course, but now there are plenty.

By “sensible discussion” I mean a good faith exchange of our thoughts on a topic. Actually attempting to discuss things and hear each other out. There are now far too many people here intent on putting the boot in, for various reasons.

It's not fun when you get accused of bullying for eye rolling at yet another will my child get food poisoning from touching a raw chicken packet

where's the common sense gone

God yes.

RallySooney · 15/06/2024 21:14

Also, Wotz, I think I remember you from long ago!

TheMarzipanDildo · 15/06/2024 20:48

*not because I joined, I don’t think anyone noticed that Grin

No. It's definitely all on you! 🤣

I've been here 12 years, since I started to try for a baby. There used to be threads that made you cry laughing (literally, not the 'I've just spat my tea on the keyboard' pretence). Now you can't be funny without saying 'lighthearted' first, and even then some fun sponge will appear to rain on the parade!

But I'm still here, so it can't be <that> bad!

ssd · 15/06/2024 21:29

I've been here years, its not as good as before. A lot of the times im shouting in my head "oh FFS" at threads and i need to sit on my hands as id get banned if i wrote what i thought. It was a lot funnier before and less unkind posters.

ssd · 15/06/2024 21:30

I miss sparklingbrook and scottishmummy

Supersoakers · 15/06/2024 21:34

Oh yes LeQueen was hilarious, always managed to get a little brag in and everyone just loved her!

LettuceTruss · 15/06/2024 21:38

I’ve made some fantastic RL friends on here. I’ve been on holiday with someone I met through MN, went to the wedding of another, an online funeral.😢 I have friends to go out with in various places, that I’ve met through MN. It’s evolved though, it’s much bigger now.

Where did Sparklingbrook (and her Duran Duran love) go?

Sallysoup · 15/06/2024 21:42

I came over from the Bounty forum around 14 years ago! It was different, I actually met a MNetter IRL which I'd never do now. It's much more serious now I think.

AbstemiousBreakfast · 15/06/2024 21:43

I remember scottishmummy saying to trust nae fucker 😄; I think she had a point.

BIWI · 15/06/2024 21:44

Sparklingbrook left after the furore about the Sex Topic. No idea where she posts now, if anywhere.

Funkyfizz · 15/06/2024 21:45

Scottishmummy loved the creepy wee brackets.

Chocolateallround · 15/06/2024 21:45

I’ve been here nearly 20 years. I joined when my DD started modelling, we had our own modelling mums threads- it was great to chat to others who had children doing the same but sometimes we would get piled on by some of the MN members.

She was right.

MadBlack · 15/06/2024 21:45

Well DS is 23 now, so I've been here that length of time.
I miss the humour, the laugh out loud, genuinely funny, threads especially on a friday night are long gone.
It's a very different place. But i suppose I'm still twirling!

CowCat · 15/06/2024 21:50

Does anyone remember Cod?

Funkyfizz · 15/06/2024 21:51

CowCat · 15/06/2024 21:50

Does anyone remember Cod?

Yes, she's still around.

EnjoyingTheSilence · 15/06/2024 21:53

Another old time here. Less funny but also less cliquey now

commonground · 15/06/2024 21:55

I too have been here forever, left after the security shenanigans, then came back with a name change (kreecher, I remember you!)

If you asked me on the spot without looking, I don't think I could name one current MNr , but I can reel off names of old. So yes, it's much bigger now.

(In the olden days, there were loads of free trials and product tests. I got lots of good stuff and had some amazing experiences courtesy of MN. Good times.)

Samcro · 15/06/2024 21:57

I joined in 2006. Mn has changed. In some ways for the better. When I joined it was ruled by a certain group of posters. Mouldies sorted that.
i still enjoy it as long as I avoid the meghanhatetopic.

Errors · 15/06/2024 22:00

Been here nearly 10 years. I prefer it now, actually.

My first ever thread was when I was TTC and I had gotten a positive pregnancy test, posted on one of the TTC threads about it and I got absolutely ripped to shreds. They were horrible. I find it much less of a clique now

Mrcrabsleg · 15/06/2024 22:00

Less funny but also less cliquey now

It was sooo cliquey. Certain posters definitely ruled the roost and I although yes it’s not as supportive or funny in some ways, I like that there’s not that hard core anymore.

justasking111 · 15/06/2024 22:02

2000 when I got pregnant, have dipped in over the years on and off

My eyes glaze over at most trolling.

Funkyfizz · 15/06/2024 22:04

I quite liked the 'clique' well I liked recognising names and people knowing each other and chatting. MN had more of a community feeling then.
