to expect some old timers of MN to be twirling & scuttling around still

Haven't been here for probably 15+ years. Went absent, never dipped back in . But today something made me think of the MN support, the laughs, life's highs & lows shared when insomnia kicked after my little DDs were tucked up in bed.

DDs are grown and flown the nest. On reflection it was time well spent. Even the cliquey and other shitty bits. Hope you all keep twirling and scuttling around. If you're new keep with it, it will all pan out.

Another long time (about 15 years), serial namechanger here. I got a shock recently when someone resurrected a zombie thread and I got thanks for a post made 10 years ago under a username I'd forgotten I had!

One poster I remember from my very early days here was "Lady Of The Manor". I have no idea if she was a troll or genuine but her story was that she had inherited a manor house and large amount of money when quite young and she used to remind everyone how superior she was at every opportunity.
The cliques were irritating but the humour and intelligence made up for it and I do feel the site is weaker and more po-faced now.

Agree with @BIWI that it is sad how many we have lost along the way, even though I had never met them in person and they were only names on a screen, I felt like I knew them

LionBarPlease · 16/06/2024 18:58

My favourite thread resurrection was when a poster asked a question about a pram and came back and answered her own question without realising, maybe a year later?

RallySooney · 16/06/2024 19:00

I do remember you 2shoes, always lovely and occasionally funny 😉
Thw whole Mouldies things was awful. Rude too and I remember thinking at the time, who do these people think they are. I also felt there was an element of snobbish nonsense to it. Although, once they'd all gone I was quite pleased as I largely ( apart from Boco) thought they were generally a dreadful bunch.

Ah. That feels better. Told you I was full of middle aged woman rage these days.

ExitPursuedByABare · 16/06/2024 19:26

I must have joined 2006 as one of the first threads I remember was a hilarious one about the trapped Mexican miners. Which sounds cruel but really wasn’t.

I was very aware of MN Royalty and was bizarrely and embarrassingly thrilled to be name checked by Hully on a thread.

Pagwatch was always terribly wise.

I loved Pinot’s kitten thread.

RallySooney · 16/06/2024 19:33

Oh gawd there was always name checking threads in the olden days. Hated all that too.

Jellykat · 16/06/2024 19:35

Oh yes i'd forgotten Pinots kitten thread, such a joy!

And the interminable threads about who is MN Royalty.

periodiclabel · 16/06/2024 19:44

this imade me realise I’ve been on here for 20 years - 3 dc only one still at home. I lost my old username when I changed my email for work and couldn’t get back in any more, but since then, I’ve name changed pretty regularly. I miss Bonsoir the most with her threads complaining she had too many glitzy dinners in and couldn’t cope. it’s not so funny any more but not is it so mean girls

Pure and utter nonsense, wasnt it? People with notions and lacking in self esteem. Mumsnet royalty were generally a cliquey catty bunch.

Samcro · 16/06/2024 20:16

There used to be some good local meet ups

Biscuithoover · 16/06/2024 20:18

I’m just reading this thinking did these self appointed mumsnet royalty people not
have any self awareness of what prats they were being 😂 their behaviour sounds so cringey “mumsnet royalty” 🫠👍🏻

ThePoshUns · 16/06/2024 20:57

@Samcro I remember you as 2shoes

what was really cringe was people arselicking to royalty in the hopes of being allowed to join the gang… Very different dynamic today where I don’t remember any posters’ names, back then you saw the same people again and again and again and there were definite queen bees – there must’ve been far fewer threads I guess

I remember you BIWI
Nice you are still here.
I remember iCod, Cybilliberty, Zoetrope, Xenia (!), WalkTheRotties, and Noddy. Sadly Noddy passed away a few years ago.
I was 60ft doll amongst other names back in the day.

Xenia is still very much here and the tone of her posts have changed not one jot

ThePoshUns · 16/06/2024 21:37

Haha glad to hear it!

Toastedalmonds · 16/06/2024 21:39

TrinityRhino? She had a difficult life as I recall. Wonder how she is? I loved Scottish Mummy and her 'special moments' 😄

Iggi999 · 16/06/2024 21:47

Xenia has given me some solid advice on here.

ThePoshUns · 16/06/2024 21:52

Yes I liked Xenia her life is so far removed from mine but she talked a lot of sense

Klippityklopp · 16/06/2024 22:08

It's strange the posters you remember.
I can remember 2 sisters, I'm sure one was called Lulu and one Ruby. They always came across as just decent people.
Today it would never happen that posters would openly out themselves.
I remember a poster who's husband died in a car crash, it was heartbreaking and one who's DD was ill but then became a dancer I'm sure. Everyone was genuinely willing her on and her mum was beyond proud of her.
Although it could be cliquey there was far less arguments for arguments sake

Noddy died?

I know she had health issues but didn't know we'd lost her. Terrible news.

Does anyone have any threads from 10+ years ago so I can read back to see the difference?

Probably classics is your best bet if you look for the timestamp, otherwise there’s a bit of a ‘you had to be there’ situation. It used to be kind of fast moving on Saturday nights and holidays etc too.

Just use the 'search' function and search the period before 2014.

Stuff from chat (or _chat) will have long gone from that era though as they get deleted after a certain time period.

DreadingSeptember2024 · 16/06/2024 22:27

Been on here for 14 years now. Best support for school advice. Otherwise a sense of humour failure within 5 posts on most threads
