I’ve reached the point of feeling a totally irrational surge of rage whenever I see them which is every damn day…

“I was today years old when”

“POV”

“That feeling when”

Anything that is referred to as a “hack”.

Calling an outfit a “fit”

Like baseball caps worn backwards, should be banned after 12 years of age.

I agree, with one exception - if you're painting your walls.

Yes, I'll allow you that one, as long as come and paint mine too!

MsLuxLisbon · 13/06/2024 09:55

'Mother is mothering' for when a celebrity looks good in an outfit. So, so overused. See also 'slay, serve, werk' etc.

'What did you get for your birthday' and 'Can I get a coffee' are totally different uses of the word 'get', the second use is a relatively new thing, being exceedingly old and having lived in and travelled to many places I'd never heard it. I became aware of it initially on American/Australian programmes before it morphed into UK English.

You obviously didn’t travel to Scotland.

Signed, a Scottish person.

TaylorBrown · 13/06/2024 10:54

How everyone is jumping on the adhd bandwagon then decide to be an influencer about a late diagnosis. Why ? If you have it it's fine but half of them are doing it for attention

Quite, nor Ireland.

The use of "get" in both senses is the same - it's used to mean "receive".

I don't like the put on twee swearing that British posters do. "Wankpuffin", "cockwomble" etc.

Seems to be done to elicit "omg British people are sooo good at insults lmao".

Sorry internet non-brits, but if you come over on holiday and see a public set to, you're far more likely to hear "fucking bitch, fucking cunt" than "you bloody teapot shagger" or whatever.

"I'm going to go in with" when doing a makeup tutorial.

It's not TikTok etc but it's always been something that annoyed me about Jamie Oliver. "I'm going to go in with some lovely radish."

Yes! It's eyeshadow not surgery

queensonia · 13/06/2024 18:09

This isn't social media related but it's too niche to warrant its own thread. Has anybody else noticed that the word "probably" has disappeared and has been completely replaced by "likely"? I thought it was just an American thing but it's happening here as well in print journalism. So instead of somebody saying "It's probably going to rain" they would now say, "It's likely going to rain." What does my head in about this, is that "likely" used to be an adjective, and it's suddenly become an adverb. How did that happen?
I completely agree with everybody else's social media hates.

Lifestooshort71 · 13/06/2024 18:10

'Granola to die for!'
Never.

newtoallthisshizzle · 13/06/2024 18:25

Iykyk POV fam/famalam
anything ASMR especially those nails on boxes or on leather car upholstery.
unalived and scratching out parts of words that might be triggering. Wtf it takes me ages to work out what it might mean. Get a aitah post about cheating or something and you can barely read it for all the scratchings out.

“I’ll DM you” when someone asks “you ok, hun?” in response to some cryptic post where they’re fishing for attention. Grrrrr !

Being 'gifted' something

When the fuck did people stop being just given something

And every other phrase everyone has written.
Have recently hit 42 and everything seems to annoy and piss me off.

Social Media can 'live, laugh and fuck the fuck off'

Ladymeade · 13/06/2024 18:41

Any of these (without stopping to think):
Feeling.. "blessed" or "in love"
Nom nom nom
Calling someone a "Karen" (would bug me more if it were my name)
POV
#bekind

Packetofcrispsplease · 13/06/2024 18:45

When things are described as “ hero “ 🤦🏻‍♀️
This seasons “ hero “ jumper for example.

Mermaidsarereal · 13/06/2024 18:46

Doggo (just say dog!) And when people say 'me and mine' I don't know why that makes me cringe so much!

Which they have a deficit of...

As if...
As if it's Billy's first day at school

Anyone "flooding their body with ..." usually some Juice Plus type of capsule

Needs a must instead of needs must

BlackCountryWench2 · 13/06/2024 18:53

“Just laying there” and “laid on the bed/sofa/whatever”. People lay bricks and tables, they do not lay somewhere. I always have a mental image of them dispensing an egg out of their arses.

ilovegranny · 13/06/2024 18:56

Insane, stunning, gifted, invite.

toxic44 · 13/06/2024 19:01

Sentences beginning, 'So I was in the....'
'I was so wanting this...'
'He gifted me a...'

Oh, don't get me started!

Ilovecleaning · 13/06/2024 19:13

What does “today years old” actually mean? Genuine question.
