What is the difference between 'Present' and 'In attendance' regarding who is at meetings? I can only guess that some people may be physically present in the same room together and others may join online, but the actual terms being used seem to mean the same thing.

Present; is for someone who is a board director (or company secretary)

In attendance: someone who is not a board member so doesn't get to vote/participate in board decisions (eg an external adviser or more junior management wheeled in to present etc)

I was initially thinking of the weary-sounding man married to Mrs Hyacinth Bucket, but you're closer!

Me too, was expecting him to get a call saying daddy is running amok in a toy shop!

ps love count Arthur!

CustardySergeant · 19/06/2024 18:38

Thanks very much TheWayOfTheWorld for the explanation.

prh47bridge · 19/06/2024 20:12

Wouldn't a user error like that appear on the SPM's (equivalent of a) till roll? So that when they came to spread long strips of paper out over their rooms in the stilly watches of the night, it would be possible to find the error?

The reports available for subpostmasters weren't good enough to allow them to track down problems. The kind of detail needed for that was held at Fujitsu and couldn't be accessed by subpostmasters.

AutumnCrow · 19/06/2024 20:20

@prh47bridge Thank you for that link. That's horrendous.

friendlycat · 19/06/2024 23:05

This latest data breach is just staggering. It’s almost unbelievable. The utter incompetence that’s still being exposed is astonishing.

Who are these people currently in charge of this organisation that have taken over from the last administration that was beyond contempt?

The ineptitude is beyond comprehension. And these people are paid salaries to display their incompetence publicly.

minou123 · 20/06/2024 10:15

Well, I was completely wrong to why they have brought back Graham Ward, but this is drama.

It's like Perry Mason.......

AutumnCrow · 20/06/2024 10:19

This is suspenseful work from Mr Beer!

minou123 · 20/06/2024 10:26

He did delete it!

He completely denied deleting the sentence and said he "wasn't that type of person".
Turns out he is that type of person.

Tut tut tut.

The joys of tracked changes.

Lunde · 20/06/2024 10:26

"Well I deleted the 3rd explanation but it was not my intent to remove it"

?????? - yeah that makes sense????

AutumnCrow · 20/06/2024 10:27

Aah, so Graham Ward altered Gareth Jenkins's statement in 2006, potentially to a substantive degree? Including deleting the words of Jenkins about 'system failure - such failures are normal occurrences'.

Ward: 'I was just trying to help'.

Ward: 'I can see that I deleted it, yes.'

Ward previously denied doing this, on oath, to the Inquiry.

This is why Graham Ward is back.

Mr Beer going into motive.

AutumnCrow · 20/06/2024 10:28

This guy needs to pack his bag for The Big House

Boom 💥

minou123 · 20/06/2024 10:29

He currently works for the Metropolitan Police

(Probably not as a police officer, but support staff)

Hopefully he is nowhere near taking statements or typing them up.

This guy needs to pack his bag for The Big House

Yip.

Quebeccles · 20/06/2024 10:33

Damn. This sounds compelling, but RL is definitely getting in my way today. I’ll have to catch up later.

minou123 · 20/06/2024 10:33

Everything is just a "poor choice of words".

This is the new "I can't recall"

AutumnCrow · 20/06/2024 10:35

Ward: 'It's such a long time ago'

Beer: suggests a cover-up of system failure during a criminal prosecution

Ward: 'Nah I don't agree'

AutumnCrow · 20/06/2024 10:38

Ward gets caught out in a follow-up email now.

Motive for deletion - Ward says in it that the line about system failure is 'potentially very damaging'.

Ward gibbers about context.

AutumnCrow · 20/06/2024 10:39

Ward is toast
