To boycott Aperol?

Aperol is part of the Campari group, which has subjected a decent guy, Steve, from the North East to a long court case for wanting to call his village microbrewery beer ‘’Dark Sky”.

(Campari produces a “Skyy” vodka and claimed people could be confused).

Also imo Aperol tastes grim unless you are on holiday, but that’s not the main reason here).

Here is Steve:

Who DO these companies think they are?

I suggest boycotting Aperol as no one under 85 yrs drinks Campari anyway.

Village microbrewery wins battle with drinks giant over its name

Regulators throw out Campari’s claim that retired police officer’s beers could be confused with its vodka brand

And presumably you’ve passed this on to all your aperol loving friends?! 😆

crayfishyum · 08/06/2024 15:39

do you purchase from amazon ever?

Lismore · 08/06/2024 15:41

We get through a lot more than 1 bottle a year- especially this time of year.
But not any more 😔

what was your motivation?

although given your posts on amazon failing to deliver a book you wanted, i suspect it was more to do with service than ethics! 😆

so weird

you hate it and think it’s grim and think no under 85 enjoys it

and yet you buy multiples of bottles…. lots of very aged relatives?

AreYouShittingMe · 08/06/2024 15:51

Surely you're better off buying vodka from Steve than boycotting Aperol if you want to show solidarity?

AreYouShittingMe · 08/06/2024 15:52

I mean beer from Steve 🤣
Don't any of your friends/ relatives drink beer?

LaMarschallin · 08/06/2024 15:53

Boycott it if you want to - you don't need to ask MN for permission, do you?

True! Until my children helped me see the light 😀

Ethical buying decisions can be a bit more time consuming, though it doesn’t take long in cases like Campari vs Steve🤣

It’s just useful to highlight bullying behaviour by big business of the Steves of the world.
But no more Aperol in my drinks cupboard.

I’m sure there are lots of similar examples I’m not aware of 😬

Camparijane · 08/06/2024 15:59

Gransnet will be awash with posts from tour many friends and relatives over 85 who are no longer being served this by you

crayfishyum · 08/06/2024 16:02

Have you shared this with your aperol loving friends OP for whom you buy a lot of bottles for every year?

crayfishyum · 08/06/2024 16:02

I presume you’ll now buy a caseload from Steve OP?

Hehe- it’s Campari I associate with aged relatives not Aperol. I didn’t buy Campari in the first place but did buy Aperol.
So maybe the aged relatives were already on Gransnet berating me for lack of drinks options.
And I don’t mean to be ageist, it is just an impression of the brand having its heyday a very long time ago. Didn’t the Queen enjoy it?
