To boycott Aperol?

Lismore · 08/06/2024 15:31

Aperol is part of the Campari group, which has subjected a decent guy, Steve, from the North East to a long court case for wanting to call his village microbrewery beer ‘’Dark Sky”.

(Campari produces a “Skyy” vodka and claimed people could be confused).

Also imo Aperol tastes grim unless you are on holiday, but that’s not the main reason here).

Here is Steve:

Who DO these companies think they are?

I suggest boycotting Aperol as no one under 85 yrs drinks Campari anyway.

Village microbrewery wins battle with drinks giant over its name

Regulators throw out Campari’s claim that retired police officer’s beers could be confused with its vodka brand

Read your OP

you are cross, indignant and calling for a boycott

when we take the piss or simply say… nope, won’t be doing that…. you change tack and it’s all a bit of a giggle

But interesting you don’t seem to show your support for Steve more practically by actually purchasing from him 😆

CassandraWebb · 08/06/2024 16:22

crayfishyum · 08/06/2024 15:48

what was your motivation?

although given your posts on amazon failing to deliver a book you wanted, i suspect it was more to do with service than ethics! 😆

You stalked the ops previous posts? Seriously?!

CassandraWebb · 08/06/2024 16:24

Aperol is disgusting anyway I cant understand the appeal

anyone calling for a boycott, always interesting to read their background re purchases!

Hehe- it’s Campari I associate with aged relatives not Aperol. I didn’t buy Campari in the first place but did buy Aperol.
So maybe the aged relatives were already on Gransnet berating me for lack of drinks options.
And I don’t mean to be ageist, it is just an impression of the brand having its heyday a very long time ago. Didn’t the Queen enjoy it?

Negronis aren't old fashioned. I think you may be thinking of Dubonnet, re the late Queen

StormingNorman · 08/06/2024 16:28

I was late to the Aperol party and now love it with Prosecco. I’m not ready to give it up yet.

kitsuneghost · 08/06/2024 17:14

Many under 85s drink compari
Key component of a negroni
Not everyone wants alcohol to taste like bubblegum

PrimalLass · 08/06/2024 17:18

I bloody love Campari.

user3344556 · 08/06/2024 17:45

Yeah, Negronis are probably the trendiest drink in London at the moment. Of course you should boycott if you feel strongly, but given the negroni thing, I don't think they're feeling the lack of love from the under 85 crowd.

No it's really grim behaviour to go hunting

Brewington · 08/06/2024 18:23

It tastes like earwax.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 08/06/2024 18:25

It’s awful stuff anyway, so I don’t need to boycott it given that I never buy it.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 08/06/2024 18:25

No. This is not boycotting territory. This is mildly disagreeing territory.

Boycotting territory is marketing formula milk aggressively to women with no access to clean water, or continuing to do business within a Nazi, genocidal state.

Blinky21 · 08/06/2024 18:29

Don't know why everyone is so sneery on this thread. Good for you OP. Boycotting a business that doesn't share your values is admirable

ThinWomansBrain · 08/06/2024 18:40

i bought one in a bar once
it was foul, haven't purchased since.
does that count as a boycott?

Feeling the need to tell the world about it and virtue signal is not.

Hillarious · 08/06/2024 18:44

Happy to boycott Aperol - bit too sweet - but I am rather partial to a Campari and tonic.

pinkpedi · 08/06/2024 18:50

Campari spritz is better than aperol. And I love a negroni and a negroni spritz so soz!
I'm a lot younger than 85!

IBegYourBiggestPardon · 08/06/2024 18:50

Had it once. It's frigging rank!

pinkpedi · 08/06/2024 18:53

@Brewington how do you know that! 🤮

Isittimeformynapyet · 08/06/2024 19:45

Brewington · 08/06/2024 18:23

It tastes like earwax.

An old school friend's cat used to love licking her finger after she'd waggled it in her ear. That cat would probably have loved a Campari!

Delawear · 08/06/2024 20:02

Have you ever wondered how drinks like Aperol are bright orange? Manufacturers aren’t obliged to disclose the full contents on the label. There are additives in the big brand alcoholic drinks that you wouldn’t readily accept in your food.

So I wouldn’t boycott because I don’t drink Aperol, but I expect that Steve’s brew is a much better quality product.

I think if we were fussed about going fully UPF then we wouldn't be drinking ANY alcohol TBF.
Discussing which alcohol is better for health is pretty tragic.

Revelatio · 08/06/2024 20:33

Negronis have been popular with the drinking public for years now!! Loads of people drink Campari and Aperol who are under 80. Negronis are amazing as you don’t have to get out the cocktail shaker and I always have the ingredients in the cupboard.

I was out today and saw a table of 20-odd people out for a birthday (looked late 20s/early 30s, mixed sex). They all had either an aperol or Campari spritz. The staff were bringing them out on trays.

I always have aperol, select, and Campari in the cupboard. The fake ones taste awful.

socialdilemmawhattodo · 08/06/2024 20:42

Sorry are you Steve? I love Campari and even now have a bottle of Aperol open. Both taste so good in cocktails. My advice? get joe lycett involved - he likes the challenge of little man vs big company.
