Women in their 40s loving Taylor Swift

I’m seeing a fair amount of criticism on here and other places about grown women liking TS and just wondered; could we have a list of acceptable hobbies for the 40+ women as I appear to be womaning wrong in the eyes of some mnetters.

43 and I appreciate TS music- not a fan fan but know her well known somgs and would definitely go to a concert if given tickets!!! Love Olivia Rodrigo! Not ashamed!!! The people who make comments will get a shock when they turn 40😅😅😅

Sarah2891 · 08/06/2024 12:27

Like who you want to like. Who cares what other MNetters think!
I'm not a Taylor fan but each to their own and all that.

Iamuhtredsonofuhtred · 08/06/2024 12:29

I’m 41 and I fucking love Taylor Swift (along with many other age inappropriate things).

I suggest:
get a new tattoo
take up roller skating
go to a sex party
buy a pair of bright purple DM boots
leave your kids with their grandparents and go to a music festival and take some mushrooms

feel free to add!

ssd · 08/06/2024 12:30

I personally dont get it but its harmless and if it does you good, crack on

MonsteraMama · 08/06/2024 12:32

I wouldn't use Mumsnet as a yardstick for how to woman properly, I'm pretty sure at least 50% of posters are aliens pretending to be human.

Kitkat1523 · 08/06/2024 12:33

music festivals
im 59 and go to 3 or 4 a years….always Glastonbury and then whatever takes my fancy…this year also Kendal calling, Bearded Theory and 2000 trees …. I just love a music festival

MrsBirkett · 08/06/2024 12:35

I hate how we are somehow not meant to like things because of our age. I'm not young but I like all kinds of music from the Beatles to Taylor Swift and everything in between. Being open to new things makes my life richer.

Isitchill · 08/06/2024 12:37

I think women in their 40's are meant to drink gin and go to spa days.

(50 and never done either. Still on Eras wait list).

Mastersstudent83 · 08/06/2024 12:39

Taylor Swift turns 35 this year, so she's actually much closer in age to the 40 year old women fans than she is to the teens and tweens.

That's a bit strange? I'm not a fan as don't really know much of her stuff but from what I've heard it is actual music etc. might not be to everyone's taste, but it's not complete drivel.

Fizbosshoes · 08/06/2024 12:44

I notice there is a lot of what I consider superiority complex on MN, about literally anything - house decor, driving, careers and jobs, cooking, hobbies, etc
So liking an artist whose supposed fan based is allegedly much younger makes us infantile and them feel superior.
I love TS I bought tickets for DD and friends but a bit disappointed not to be going myself!

There’s another thread on here currently describing her as a bad singer and not talented. Totally understand different tastes but hard to argue she’s a bad singer etc. fine to say “not my thing”. For clarity - it is my thing. Also love festivals although not camping, but I can drive home from Glastonbury and back the next morning where I live.

She's a bit too poppy for me, I'm somewhat stuck in the pre 2000s era. But I definitely wouldn't have thought she was lacking in talent. The hysteria over tickets is another, but that just seems to be the way of things now.

Solihullproject · 08/06/2024 13:00

I’m mid 40s and I’m sure Taylor is missing me in her girl gang -I love cats, she love cats, it’s a match right? Seriously, it’s easy to find someone to sneer, her music makes me happy.

I'm sure TS is entirely unconcerned what mumsnetters think of her singing as she pops another million in the bank.

Anyone setting up a thread to slag her off is jealous pure and simple and needs to get a life.

millymoo1202 · 08/06/2024 13:02

I’m 52 and going to see her with my daughter and can’t wait. Wonder what that says about me? 🤣

Bonjovispjs · 08/06/2024 13:05

I'm 57 and completely obsessed with Mika and wouldn't have it any other way. Saw him in concert last month and it was amazing, all ages from kids to people in their 70s too.

SilverCatStripes · 08/06/2024 13:06

My 11 year old introduced me to Taylor Swift and I think she is fab!

There are some posters on here who act terribly cold and efficient about all manner of things - hobbies, careers ,what they wear, even their relationships with the own kids and spouses . I always thought this was a slightly middle class trait to be honest, and it’s just so depressing, what a shit way to live your life.

BobbyBiscuits · 08/06/2024 13:06

It's not the age thing really. I don't understand any age groups interest in her. But I wouldn't begrudge someone their hobby!
I basically have no hobbies, though I used to go to a lot of gigs, like nearly every night of the week. That was when I was a teenager though!
Now it's just gardening, eating, cooking, smoking/drinking, occasional shopping, watch movies at home. In fact I wouldn't mind going to the cinema, that's nearly a hobby? Haha.
I'm perfectly content. But I do envy people who do loads of outdoorsy stuff, go to exciting places, travel the world, learn loads of fun craft skills etc. it's just not for me really.

DickJagger · 08/06/2024 13:09

Acceptable interests for women on MN are obsessing over calories/being a size 10 and wearing frumpy clothes whilst desperately looking to "settle down".

I find it much more fun to not give a single solitary fuck about other people and live your life the way you want to.

LlynTegid · 08/06/2024 13:10

I am making no suggestions.

I don't listen to Taylor Swift, you do, your choice.

Now if it was some misogynistic rapper or you thought Mrs Brown's Boys was a comedy, I would make some comments.

DisgruntledPelican · 08/06/2024 13:12

Taylor Swift is great. I can’t afford tickets this time but saw her show in 2018 and it was excellent. O

Music taste has always been an acceptable way to criticise people. The hard of thinking get confused between “I don’t like xyz” and “xyz is rubbish”.

TorturedPoetsDepartmentAnthology · 08/06/2024 13:14

Some MNers are judgmental and boring. Woe betide any adult who enjoys Disney. They get a lot of criticism. It’s not my cup of tea but we’d be boring if all the same.

I am in my 30s and love Taylor Swift’s music. It’s not hurting anyone, except maybe my own ears when I blast it in the car alone on the way to work.

KitKatChunki · 08/06/2024 13:15

I love her, dd who is 12 isn't keen but I'm stealth brainwashing her into it in the car so she has been singing "with a broken heart" around the house

I think women in their 40's appreciate the lyrics and strength a bit more than teens who for the most part haven't had their lives crushed by thoughtless men or felt the societal pressure to have babies and work.

Gin and spa days are both great, and I also like Taylor Swift, Glastonbury, outdoorsy stuff and watching crap TV. Plenty of room for everything I enjoy, which is how life should be.
