Women in their 40s loving Taylor Swift

I’m seeing a fair amount of criticism on here and other places about grown women liking TS and just wondered; could we have a list of acceptable hobbies for the 40+ women as I appear to be womaning wrong in the eyes of some mnetters.

@EnglishBluebell but the point is it's not cheesy pop aimed at teens - other than the stuff written when she actually was a teen. It's written by a woman for women, Vigilante Shit for a start is not for tweens. Just because she dresses relatively modestly for a music star unlike Little Mix or similar ( that actually was aimed at tweens) who dressed like dominatrixes.
Down Bad is a fantastic 'Fuck it!' song for every occasion.

I never said your Mum should or shouldn’t do anything. There is more music out there than classical music and Taylor Swift. You do realise that, don’t you?

Yes and we both listen to lots of it.

I don't get what you don't get. You specifically mentioned age, as if we are too old to like certain things.

You're a bit obsessed with Taylor Swift. Just ignore her.

No, ta! No desire to. My opinion remains.

But. Your opinion is based on alternative facts Donald. It’s like listening to Please Please me and saying that’s all the Beatles produced. Just factually wrong.

EnglishBluebell · 08/06/2024 13:38

Misthios · 08/06/2024 13:35

Who says it's aimed at pre-teens though? I don't like this distinction about what sort of music or whatever you should be enjoying at a specific age. It's like the people who "can't understand" why an adult would read a Harry Potter book, buy Lego, or watch a Disney movie, or enjoy an evening playing video games. Or like my mother who thinks 30 is the age limit for having shoulder length hair and that nobody over 40 should be wearing jeans.

Seriously, you're not "confused", @EnglishBluebell . You are sneery and dismissive of people who like different things to you. Not a good look, tbh.

So I’m not permitted to express my opinion, only YOU are and anyone else who agrees with you? Interesting.

I never said anything ‘sneery’ it DOES confuse me. We’ll have to agree to disagree

heretodestroyyou · 08/06/2024 13:38

Fuck 'em! There's a lot of bitter and mean spirited people on here and elsewhere online.

There's so much fucking judgment about women and I'm so sick of it. Honestly places like Tattle which get such a hard time on here are so much more supportive!

I just hide the many 'why do people like TS/buy Stanley cups/wear glitter/ like their friends eww'.

EmeraldRoulette · 08/06/2024 13:39

While we're talking about Vigilante Shit, scalloped outfit is my favourite! I still want to know where it vanished to earlier in the tour! 😂

Donald? Please please? Beatles? What have the Beatles and what they produced, got to do with anything? You need to learn the difference between opinion and fact. Saying the sky is blue is a FACT. Saying that I believe Taylor Swift is aimed at preteens and teens is an opinion. HTH

ElaineMBenes · 08/06/2024 13:41

I'm 41 and I'm off to see Girls Aloud next week with my 50 year old husband. We can't wait!
We absolutely would have gone to see Taylor Swift if we could have got tickets.

People judge me all the time..... I'm so thankful to be at a stage in my life where I really don't give a shit!!

KitKatChunki · 08/06/2024 13:42

EnglishBluebell · 08/06/2024 13:31

I don’t think anyone thinks it makes them superior, it’s more about being confused as to why grown adults are dancing to cheesy pop aimed at preteens & teens. Genuinely confuses me. Nothing to do with superiority. That’s quite a childlike take on it…..?

It's hardly Baby Shark though is it?
Why a grown woman would want to come on a "we like TS thread" and post repeatedly that they don't like her is odd and slightly childish in itself.

EnglishBluebell · 08/06/2024 13:42

@DanielGault Obsessed?! 🤣😂 I posted on a discussion about these fan-girling middle aged women and have been bombarded with tantrumming fans. So that translates as me being obsessed?! 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Sunnyandsilly · 08/06/2024 13:43

I’m fifty and I really like her, well some of her big songs. Don’t get me wrong I’d not dress up and go to her concert, and I don’t call myself a Swiftie or refer to her as taytay, but I do like some of her songs, all too well being one of my favourites.

Maybe go and touch grass?

EnglishBluebell · 08/06/2024 13:44

@KitKatChunki I posted once darling and have simply responded to every reply I've been TAGGED in since. So you're saying I cannot respond to those? Why? Because my opinion is different to yours? Hmmm

ElaineMBenes · 08/06/2024 13:44

Are you easily confused?

Nothing wrong with adults dancing to cheesy pop. You should try it sometimes. It's fun.

EnglishBluebell · 08/06/2024 13:44

@KitKatChunki Maybe go bedazzle some TS T-shirts 🤣

HelloJillll · 08/06/2024 13:45

39 and I love TS. Not all of her music is for me but I loved Folklore and Midnights.

She’s inspirational & love that women of all ages have someone like her vs the boy bands of my youth.

KitKatChunki · 08/06/2024 13:45

EnglishBluebell · 08/06/2024 13:44

I'm not the one on a thread that is clearly winding her up...

Well you're getting very exercised about her and quite judgemental about those that do like her aren't you? As I said, I'm not a fan, not my style of music, but I solve that problem by not listening to her. And go about my day without working myself myself up into an unnecessary froth.

Sunnyandsilly · 08/06/2024 13:46

You do seem oddly obsessed.

SoEmbarrassed2024 · 08/06/2024 13:46

I never said anything ‘sneery’

Says the poster that started with

Seeing grown women fan-girling or even just listening to Taylor Swift is so painfully cringey and embarrassing - for them.

NCGrandParent · 08/06/2024 13:46

The die hard fans I know are the same age as her - mid 30s. They have been with her since she started and grown with her. I am (significantly) older and didn't notice her going from popular musician to global megastar but she has done so through talent and determination. She's not my thing but I appreciate her.

RedRobyn2021 · 08/06/2024 13:46

Doesn't bother me if they like Taylor, didn't occur to me

Whenwillitgetwarm · 08/06/2024 13:48

I don’t think many people judge what interests 40+ women have. Liking Taylor Swift is a mainstream thing, she wouldn’t be able to sell out a world tour otherwise. I think what people judge is people being a super fan or stan of any pop star or band in their 40s whether it’s Swift, Beyoncé, Idols or AC/DC.

It’s cool to really like an artist and love some of their songs but acting like a teenaged fan of any singer/band is weird. Starting threads on here crying about not having tickets etc just feels attention seeking and performative for grown women.

I don’t think it’s people side/eyeing TS, I think people are side eyeing grown ass women acting like 14 year olds.

Spirallingdownwards · 08/06/2024 13:48

OP what you need to remember is many of these people don't open their front doors!
