Women in their 40s loving Taylor Swift

TeenLifeMum · 08/06/2024 12:25

I’m seeing a fair amount of criticism on here and other places about grown women liking TS and just wondered; could we have a list of acceptable hobbies for the 40+ women as I appear to be womaning wrong in the eyes of some mnetters.

I never said anything ‘sneery’

Says the poster that started with

Seeing grown women fan-girling or even just listening to Taylor Swift is so painfully cringey and embarrassing - for them.

Haha let them be embarrassed on our because we sure as hell don’t give a fuck as we’re having too much fun singing and dancing like loons. Some grown ups make being a grown up so bloody dull. Anything fun is “cringe” 😂

OP what you need to remember is many of these people don't open their front doors!

Omg this is sooo true. Do you think there’s a direct correlation between people who open their doors and people being TS fans?

Definitely like whatever music you happen to like without shame, age should not matter at all. Personally, I'm not into taylor swift. But if I was I wouldn't be worrying about whether I was too old to like her, how ridiculous. Are people who think they're too old secretly into her music but don't allow themselves to be? That's really sad, if so.

Soboredofdiettalk · 08/06/2024 13:18

TS can't be that far off 40 herself. I don't see the problem. I'm not a big fan of her music, but I don't see any issues with people who are, regardless of their age.

Same.

She wasn't really on my radar until my boss (mid 50s) started banging on about her.

Still not my taste but to each their own, wouldn't judge anyone on their fave music. Except maybe Garry Glitter fans?

Donald? Please please? Beatles? What have the Beatles and what they produced, got to do with anything? You need to learn the difference between opinion and fact. Saying the sky is blue is a FACT. Saying that I believe Taylor Swift is aimed at preteens and teens is an opinion. HTH

An opinion you’re basing on the cheesy pop you’ve heard on the radio when she has a hugely extensive back catalogue with melancholy, introspective lyrics more in line with Joni Mitchell than Justin Beiber. I don’t like her cheesy stuff either, but she has so much more than that. Have a listen, you might be converted.

BrandyandGinger · 08/06/2024 13:50

Im in my 50s and I like her. Some of her lyrics are excellent, she has songs that are like F. Scott Fitzgerald novels. Art should be for everyone.
Also, if you are a woman in your 40s now, you have a pretty good chance of living until you are 90. It's way, way too early to rule out liking anything.

Marblessolveeverything · 08/06/2024 13:50

Do you know what I have really enjoyed about my 40s . I always did what I wanted but my 40s is where I actually don't give one flying fuck about the judgement. And that judgement 99% comes from other women.

I always ensured I removed myself from so called friendships over the years. My late mother was a woman ahead of her time. She would always say friends bring each other up and never tear them down.

I have found myself advocating more. I reckon my 50s will be all time out rebellion,,🤣

Speaking of which, I do think The Last Great American Dynasty is a big loss from the setlist. Always loved the song but the staging was wonderful.

Quite possibly.

I don't listen to TS (each to their own - wouldn't crticise someone who did). I also don't open my door... 👀

🤣

henlake7 · 08/06/2024 13:55

I think she is pretty good, although TBF I only really know the more pop stuff.
Im def not a huge fan or concert goer but I will happily bop around the kitchen to Taylor Swift without shame!😄

Babbahabba · 08/06/2024 13:56

God like who you want! I like rock/metal and have had a life's worth of rubbing/criticism for my music tastes despite not giving a shiny shit what anyone else likes. You do you.

CranfordScones · 08/06/2024 13:58

Age stereotyping is just a luxury belief by those with a fixed mindset. Ignore it. If you can't do what you want then what was the point of growing up?

HandsDown84 · 08/06/2024 14:04

Iamuhtredsonofuhtred · 08/06/2024 13:38

But. Your opinion is based on alternative facts Donald. It’s like listening to Please Please me and saying that’s all the Beatles produced. Just factually wrong.

Yes, thank you. A fact would be that say One Direction were aimed at teen girls because that was openly stated by Simon Cowell when he put the band together. Nobody is sitting in a boardroom at Taylor Swift HQ and specifically introducing music for an under-18 demographic. Her latest music has lines like "If the sex is as good as the conversation" and a lot of swearing.

Taylor Swift turns 35 this year, so she's actually much closer in age to the 40 year old women fans than she is to the teens and tweens.

Really?! Not a fan personally and I don't quite get the hype but she looks good for 34.

70 here, I think she is a brilliant show woman and song writer.

I wish I did love Taylor! I’m jealous of all the fun!

Do you know much of the music?

Thing is you can like Taylor swift and other music genres as well. I like her as said, some of her songs like “all too well”, I also like a bit of ac/dc, some of their songs, like a whole lot of Rosie or High way to hell, I often listen to classic fm, or indeed opera when I’m cooking (oddly). I like Coldplay, I like elvis.i like the Beatles, led zeppelin, Metallica, Aerosmith,Florence and the machine, green day, the arctic monkeys, Bruce Springsteen, a bit of country. The list is endless.

liking one singer doesn’t usually define someone’s tastes or fully encapsulate it.

Careful now, you're making sense 😂

JaneIves · 08/06/2024 14:20

I'm almost 50 and ridiculously excited about seeing Taylor with my daughter at the August shows at Wembley.
I also still go to raves (day ones mostly!)
My wardrobe consists mainly of jeans/sweaters/tees that I pair with converse or trainers.
I act and feel at least 20 years younger than I am.
I couldn't give a flying fuck about how others see me.
I'm comfortable in my own skin and clothes - moreso now than 20/30 years ago when I believed in conformity and 'fitting in'

Why any woman would comment on another's lifestyle preferences is beyond me.

fishonabicycle · 08/06/2024 14:20

I'm 59 and think she's great! Sick to death of people trying to spoil others enjoyment.

Indeed. My favorite band is the Smiths, I’m going to see Smashing Pumpkins tonight, LCD sound system and Pixies in August. My taste leans heavily to the alternative rock side and I can still think Taylor Swift is brilliant.

My DD is the mega fan in the house! It’s her thing so I stay far away from it to prevent “cringe”.

I can see from a distance that she’s great though! I love that she writes her own stuff.
