Nope, five year olds will not be doing a 100 mile round trips daily STOP lying,

Name me a local authority where anyone would have to travel 100 miles for a school place. Just one. There are no counties with no school.places, there just aren't.

What will heads do when faced with an extra 1000 - 1500 unfunded pupils or more? Does anyone know? I don’t suppose it’s ever happened before.

We’ll teach them in marquees employing that “can do”‘attitude we learned during Covid.

CurlewKate · 05/06/2024 19:09

Of course you all should. Go for it.

Private schools have converted into state schools.

Not neighbouring counties though so many areas are going to be in real trouble!!!

I understand that you're new to the state system but it's really used to handling educating hundreds of thousands of children. The number of children in private schools are tiny compared to the number they handle but what you'll have to get used to is that it's the best solution for the system not for the parents that will be implemented if necessary. Your child will be educated, but not necessarily close to you or in a school you'd choose.

It is rare to have a class over 30 so teachers won't suddenly have to teach huge classes. They might struggle to recruit but luckily they'll be all those out of work teachers whose school has shut looking for jobs. Your child will get a place and be educated at the state's expense as they are entitled to.

I'm pretty sure there won't be a bloodbath as they handle mass applications every single year. They are used to disappointed families and appeals. They are also used to handling additional numbers eg in large new estates. The state system will cope.

What makes you think they'd be unfunded?

What makes you think they'd all be in the same school?

They'll go into existing spaces and heads will be delighted to have them and the associated funding.

noblegiraffe · 05/06/2024 19:10

Private school parents acting like a state school class without a teacher would be a disaster instead of just another normal day.

Summerdays24 · 05/06/2024 19:10

So we see Labour supporters saying no issue!!! Bring in tens of thousands of unfunded whilst simultaneously leaving in droves because their work load is already way too much?

So which one is it????

Some pp seem to be moaning and threatening on other threads but on here magically the work pressure and stress has evaporated- poof! ✨

sussexman · 05/06/2024 19:10

Dryplate · 05/06/2024 18:54

Which county? You've been asked before, why won't you answer?

Only 18% of schools are at or over capacity. If your LA really can't find a place for any additional child, they must be placing them in a neighbouring one. So that's what they'll do.

It would appear to be because @Summerdays24 is making stuff up. Of the 152 authorities for which there is data ( https://department-for-education.shinyapps.io/la-school-places-scorecards) precisely one (Sutton in London) forecasts that it will be full, none forecast a deficit. On average 12% of places are unfilled today, the forecast for 2024 is 9%. There are more secondary places than there are private school pupils.

Why do you think they'd be unfunded?. Schools are funded per pupil. Increased numbes means more money.

Summerdays24 · 05/06/2024 19:12

Starmer is saying we don’t have enough teachers whilst also building a policy GUARANTEED to flood state schools.

Hypocrisy and confusion. And you expect the general public to actually buy this bullshit!!!

Countrylife2002 · 05/06/2024 19:13

Summerdays24 · 05/06/2024 19:02

the immigration stats are going to blow through the roof IF Labour get in. So we are going to have a MAJOR problem whether you like it or not.

  1. Absolute rubbish
  2. we actually need more immigration
  3. Labour will be capable and not run this country into the ground like the Tories feckers have. Their team are strong. So they will actually find a way to stop people coming across the channel in such numbers.
  4. The Tories helped cause the current problem with Brexit. We need to work with our European neighbours to provide safe immigration in the right numbers.

Nope, they get growth funding where there's been a significant increase.

Nope wrong answer. Septembers kids will not have funding for 12 MONTHS !!!!
Because those children haven’t been included in the budgeting. So yes thousands and thousands of unfunded kids are coming your way.

Didn’t you say you were struggling to buy pencils so how do schools cope with this I ask you??!!! God knows, no one has thought of that. Absolute incompetence.

What happens to the poor kids receiving such huge influxes.

I had got the impression on here number of state teachers was an issue

So not sure why extra students is not causing more strain to that issue

I know about the pledged extra ones, but they need the funding which might not be much and need to be found

Countrylife2002 · 05/06/2024 19:15

This thread is batshit.

its like all the people who said they would leave Britain if Labour got in in 1997.

Surprise - they didn’t !

Things got better 😁

You need to have a meeting with the other batshit parents. The idea is that the parents apply for places but don't take them up.

Edited

Except where the school is subject to growth funding, which it will be if things are as dramatic as you insist.

Otherstories2002 · 05/06/2024 19:15

Dryplate · 05/06/2024 19:16

It's part of the national funding formula. No luck is required.

Bullsey · 05/06/2024 16:56

They should just ban private schools if they’re that awful and unfair to society.

Great idea. I would vote for that too.

But then where would the Labour MPs send their kids?

Summerdays24 · 05/06/2024 19:16

State Schools are likely to go bankrupt!!

HandaFae · 05/06/2024 19:16

Summerdays24 · 05/06/2024 18:49

Not in this county pal

You are talking absolute rubbish.

Government data shows that EVERY county has spare school places.

In fact in some LA’s 100% of schools are under capacity. Many have 80% of schools under capacity.
