In so much pain

I'm awaiting extraction on a wisdom tooth and a molar. The molar is badly decayed, I saw the xray and although it looks fine on the outside, the inside just looks black. I'm in so much pain. The pain seems to be inside the tooth and gum but is radiating around the jaw bone and up the side of my face. I've been getting by with strong painkillers and am on day 2 of antibiotics prescribed by the dentist on Thursday.
I'm hoping that the antibiotics will kick in and this will improve. If not I have no idea what to do. The thought of carrying on like this for even a few weeks is terrifying. I have a 5 year old and a toddler and I'm just wiped out from the pain.
Has anyone else had this? Did antibiotics work temporarily? If there's no improvement by the end of the course I feel like I'm just going to pay privately to get them taken out. Can't afford it but can't afford to feel like this for much longer either. Will antibiotics help if the infection is inside the tooth? There's no visible abscess or anything like that.

Very happy to see your update OP. I had dry socket 2 weeks ago, and now have no pain at all!! My earache that I mentioned to you has now stopped too. Hoping your mouth heals great and pain is manageable. Try and keep on top of pain relief if you can. Best wishes OP! xxx

I suspect the white line you can see is a little antibiotic strip that will dissolve over the next couple of days.

I'm glad everything went ok, it must be such a relief that it's over!

To anyone who's still interested....😂
Nearly a week on from surgery now. Healing well (or so I thought). No pain and looks like granulation tissue is covering most of the site. However I've noticed my stitches are beginning to dissolve and it's leaving open, black holes around the edges of the wound. I don't think it's dry socket as there's no pain but I didn't expect to see open holes, I kind of thought there'd be skin over it by now. Surely this is an infection risk if food were to get in? To anyone who had stitches, is this normal?

That sounds normal to me and similar to my experience. I was told to gently wash, not swish, sat water around my mouth for several weeks. I have a nice smooth skin area now but it looked and felt quite odd for a good month.

This sounds positive thank you. I probably need to stop looking at it in the mirror and just worry about it if any pain arises. I can open my mouth fully now and am eating pretty normally again. It's just freaking me out a bit that there are open holes in the gum.

I think it’s black because it’s just a hole now? Nothing is in there. Also it’s dark and things look different in a dark cave of your mouth it’s hard to really see in there even with a torch from your own angle. Also dark dark blood can look black if it’s still in a clot

If it was an infection it would smell very bad taste bad and you would feel unwell

try not to worry but if you are speak to your dentist
cant remember how long it took my skin to grow over but it was more than a week or 2?
