People's attitudes to rain

fmla · 30/05/2024 15:54

All cowering under shops eaves from the rain.

I wanted just to go home after a long day. It's only water FFS.

The way some people react to rain is truly pathetic imo.

What on earth is wrong with waiting out a rain shower. I'll tell you something else - I sit in the shade to avoid sun exposure and don't drive if I feel unsafe in a snowstorm.

😱😱😱 😆😆😆

fmla · 30/05/2024 16:20

Some were even wearing coats with hoods.

I am just hoping nobody posts that twee quote about there being no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong clothes or something.

I will rush around in all weathers because I am the most impatient human being on earth. I envy those chilled out types who stand under a cover as if they have all the time in the world.

Seriously though, who cares?

IncognitoUsername · 30/05/2024 16:22

Why are you so bothered? You do you and let other people make their own choices.

buffyslayer · 30/05/2024 16:23

I'm not bothered about being wet, it's my glasses! Rain on them, can't see, they steam up then trying to clean them and smearing them. Pain in the arse
Wonder if you can treat them with the stuff they use for car windscreens so it rolls off...

MagnetCarHair · 30/05/2024 16:23

Those people should be pelted with their own galoshes.

purepoison · 30/05/2024 16:26

I got soaked yesterday, today my arthritis and fibro are playing me up, that is why i do not like rain🙄

Newheadche · 30/05/2024 16:27

Depends on the rain and where you are going!
I was in NYC last month and we arrived it rained so heavy that I never experienced a such rain before, it was like standing under hosepipe, like in the movies - dark and heavy monsoon rain nonstop for long hours without easing.
Obviously all my clothes got soaked in seconds and I had to go somewhere to buy new clothes as I couldn’t use the one I was wearing ( winter coat, jeans ) as they wouldn’t be dried and took ages to dry.
Then in UK if it rains and I am on my way to work and I get soaked, I don’t want to be whole day in a soaked damp clothing so I take spare clothes to change.

TeenLifeMum · 30/05/2024 16:28

I walked the 15 minute walk to my car from M&S with one of their stupid paper bags with £80 of underwear (bras for twin teens), they were soaked by the time we got home and the bag disintegrated as I walked through my front door. I’m so fed up of bloody rain!

HelpMeUnpickThis · 30/05/2024 16:30

Offcom · 30/05/2024 15:59

I remember seeing someone wearing a Tesco bag on their head in a rainstorm and thinking whatever your hair looks like after it gets wet it can't be worse than that

@Offcom you have clearly never ever dealt with 4c afro hair. Washing detangling and chemical free straightening for my daughters takes almost a
whole day. I am not getting it wet after all that just to walk to the car.

I hate posts like this @fmla - so myopic. You literally cant see beyond the end of your own nose.

A silk press on afro hair costs over £68 per go.
Afro hairdressers are few and far between and if I am caught out without an umbrella then shop eaves it is.

ImCamembertTheBigCheese · 30/05/2024 16:41

I can't understand why people sheltering from the rain would stop your commute home.

Everythingiscalmfornow · 30/05/2024 17:20

I love rain.
Can't stand it when we have long spells of dry weather, especially if it's hot and sunny.

FrogandTrumpet · 30/05/2024 17:26

Very weird thing to take issue with.

Do you take issue with umbrellas and people putting their hood up?

I mean, it’s only water.

Beargrumps22 · 30/05/2024 17:26

Its not so bad if you get soaked if you are going home but if you have to stay in wet clothes its awful
My biggest bugbear is being splashed by traffic no matter how far you get over you still catch a wave of water

OneTC · 30/05/2024 17:32

Rain is shit though isn't it?

DontKnow1988 · 30/05/2024 17:35

Some people don't like getting wet and sitting in wet clothes. What exactly is so odd about it? If the rain is particularly heavy, I'd probably wait it out too.

You might not mind going for dinner in soaked trousers and looking like a drowned rat, but I do. My life, my choice.

AnImaginaryCat · 30/05/2024 17:43

You need to let is know why you can't go home because people are cowering under shops eaves from the rain.

Are you holding the eaves up and your going home would cause them all to die a horrible death?

Are they blocking your passage home, because you need to take it entirely under the eaves?

Topofthemountain · 30/05/2024 18:01

All sing together.

I love the rain it falls on me.
God made the rain, and God made me.

DancelikeFredAstaire · 30/05/2024 18:43

When you spend all day working outside when it's raining those moments when you can take some shelter is a little slice of paradise.

wendycupcakes · 30/05/2024 18:52

I love the rain.
In fact I love all the weather mums net hates.
Fog storms rain frost wind etc.
All rough weather.

Apparently if you rub/polish them with a bar of soap, the water beads off them. I have not tried this yet though as always forget until I'm out in it.

TheeNotoriousPIG · 08/06/2025 19:47

Why don't you start a trend of RainMate bonnets, then? You know, those see-through bonnets that your grannies probably wore to spare their 'dos.

I would, but my mum said that she would disown me if I wore one of those in public 😂

Auroraloves · 08/06/2025 19:52

fmla · 30/05/2024 16:20

Some were even wearing coats with hoods.

Yeah I’ve been wearing a rain coat with a hood this week.

its called being prepared

JohnTheRevelator · 08/06/2025 20:22

I get sick of hearing people saying 'At least it's not raining' when we've had next to no rain for a month and the grass is turning dry and yellow. These are the same people who'll be moaning about the hose pipe ban when a drought is announced.

OneCalmFish · 08/06/2025 20:32

I loved the fact ppl hide from the rain when DC had the play park all to himself earlier, only needed the rain cover on his bike for 5 minutes but wasn’t supposed to rain for hours. Once got drenched through while working door to door a lifetime ago pointed out to my mate everyone will be in to answer now! The only ppl who enjoy it are dressed/prepared for it
