I never meant to, I am a learner driver and had to go to the hospital today so off I set with DP who has a full driving license but is not insured to drive this car (I am) anyway I had my L plates on and as I say am insured and so on.
I got really mixed up at a round about and ended up on the slip road on to the M25 so all I could do was go to the next junction DP was beside himself (so was I ) but I stayed calm and went to the next junction and came off, however the bit of M23 I was on is a wash with cameras, I had L plates on and am clearly a learner, Am I going to lose my license before I even get it? Do I have to inform anyone, am I in a lot of trouble? Help.

don't know the answer to your question, but I do know that once you had made the mistake and found yourself on the slip road, the safest thing to do is to carry on to the motorway and get off as soon as it is safe to do so, which you did.

Part of learning to drive is learning how to manage your mistakes, as we all make them!

I'm sure you'll be fine, so try to calm down about it.

(and incidentally, lots of people drive with L plates on when they are not learners, and lots of people look as if they can't drive when they're perfectly legal)

Hi there, if you were spotted on camera you may get an NOIP (a form to fill in stating who was driving) which you have to fill in. Then you could possibly be fined etc

However, I imagine the cameras were there for speed purposes, if so, I doubt very very much anything will happen.

An NOIP (Notice of intended prosecution) has to be sent out within a certain time of the offence, if you haven't heard within 21 days you are safe.

I am a good driver I think, but I have got to pass my theory test and learn to park, I stayed in lane I did not speed or go too slow, I indicated to pull off and I came off at the next junction. I am just so worried now.

X post, thank you TL. I am for want of a better expression shitting myself

I really wouldn't worry. Tis very unlikely that they have snapped you.

If by some teeny weeny chance they did snap you, just explain that you made a mistake by getting onto the sliproad, the safest thing to do was to continue and get off the motorway at the earliest opportunity, which you did.

I'm sure you'll be fine.
Honestly.

This happened to me when I was teaching ds1 to drive. He took a wrong turning and we ended up on M25. He did exactly what you did - stayed calm, drove safely and exited at the next exit. Nothing happened.

There really was nothing else you could have done. You didn't cause an accident or anything.

CarGirl · 05/04/2008 16:45

M25 cameras are all speed cameras so you should be fine!

guiltyascharged · 05/04/2008 16:46

Thank you squonk, I am so cross with myself for being so stupid, this was on the way home so I had got there ok, but just got mixed up on the way back.

fryalot · 05/04/2008 16:46

If I had a quid for every time I've got lost...

guiltyascharged · 05/04/2008 16:47

guiltyascharged · 05/04/2008 16:48

did the first round about ok it was the 2nd one needed to go across and ended up on the slip road so so bloody stupid

OP posts:
TurkeyLurkey · 05/04/2008 16:48

If they are all speed cameras you should be fine. Stop fretting!

CarGirl · 05/04/2008 16:48

Bigger quesetion is then, how long did it take you to find a parking space there, or is it okay on a Sat (Cargirl makes notes to request Saturday appointments from now on if there was ample parking)

At least you weren't on the M25 for very long, and that roundabout is very confusing.........

fryalot · 05/04/2008 16:49

seriously, don't beat yourself up about it... you made a mistake, you sorted it, you got you and dp home safely, without causing an accident or harming anyone else.

I'd say that's a good job, well done.

guiltyascharged · 05/04/2008 16:50

cargirl the st. Peters carpak was almost empty, the runnymead was 3/4 full

CarGirl · 05/04/2008 16:50

guilty - really it is very badly marked out on the road, so you were on the inside lane planning to go straight over (all fine and legal) only the inside lane is a filter lane for the M25 - very obvious during rush hour but not otherwise so.

guiltyascharged · 05/04/2008 16:50

Thank you squonk.

Saturday appointments from now on then - what a result!

guiltyascharged · 05/04/2008 16:55

It took me years to get back in a car, I started to learn at 17 and had a crash (me and a wall no one hurt no other cars damaged) only started learning again a while back, I have lessons and I practice with DP So I am doing ok waiting for theory test date, I was very calm as I knew I had to get off safely, but once off and parked I was shaking and really did think police would pop up at any moment and take me away.

OP posts:
CarGirl · 05/04/2008 16:58

dh has not driven a car for around 12 years for similar reasons!

lardylumps · 05/04/2008 17:03

You will be fine as long as you didn't speed then you will not trigger them

guiltyascharged · 05/04/2008 17:09

Did not speed, did not lane change, did not go slow and force others to break, Kept to the limit and only changed lane to the slip way to leave the motorway.

I look bad in arrows and handcuffs

OP posts:
lardylumps · 05/04/2008 17:16

You will be fine I have checked with a policeman I know and he used to be a traffic cop so he should know.

SpecialOffer · 05/04/2008 17:22

Checked with DP, he is a policeman, and said you will be fine. The cameras are all speed cameras.

Good job keeping calm on the M25 tho!!!
