If you post holiday photos to social media ...

How many are acceptable?

A few per day of the holiday

A single post of a certain number per weekend or week

If you don't share your holiday snaps, why not?

I prefer to see my friends and family holidays snaps of where they have been and what they have done one as a matter of interest and two in case it's somewhere I'd also like to go.

I prefer to see all the snaps in one post with about 10-15 for a weekend and 15-25 for a week.

I post half a dozen or so, all together once we are home.

JLM1981 · 26/05/2024 17:53

Yes I post a few when I get home. Maybe 10 together on one post. I sometimes do a few scenic stories a day too- 2/3. Only use Instagram and mainly to share with friends and family (few who are abroad permanently) keep them up to date 😁

IncognitoUsername · 26/05/2024 17:53

I have a separate FB group for family and interested friends and share my photos on there. Probably 10ish a day. People are able to leave or mute the group if they don’t want to see but it’s mainly our parents/siblings and a few friends who go to the same place as us so have an interest.
I might put one up on my FB when we get back, just saying we had a great time or similar.

cardibach · 26/05/2024 17:55

Whatever you want to share. I photo dump daily usually. There’s nothing compelling anyone to look. Several of my friends and family do, but those who aren’t interested can scroll on by. I post them as much for me as anyone else.

takemeawayagain · 26/05/2024 17:56

I do them once home all in one post. The number varies depending on what we've done. I like seeing peoples holiday pics, much more interesting to me than what they had for dinner, that they went to the local park or some stupid meme.

Twentypastfour · 26/05/2024 17:56

I’m not a big poster on social media personally but even still 10-15 for a weekend and 15-25 for a week sounds like a LOT, more than even people who post on Instagram for a job post. Do you really follow people who post that much?

I think maybe 15+ years ago when social media was in its infancy it was quite normal for people to post whole albums on Facebook - eg 20 photos of a single night out and a whole album of holiday photos. Nowadays people don’t tend to do that - at least, not that I see. Instead of a dump of every photo taken on a night out and uploaded the next day from a digital camera it’s the odd photo now and then. Maybe a group of 3 or 4 photos in a batch.

Marblessolveeverything · 26/05/2024 17:56

Nope not on Facebook. I would put 2,3 on the family WhatsApp.

notanothernana · 26/05/2024 17:57

One of my friends is on holiday now. Multiple pics, 2-3 times a day. Getting on my tits.

XenoBitch · 26/05/2024 17:58

I have been on a long weekend in a caravan, and posted 14 pics... mostly of my dog in various places 😅

ThingsWillOnlyGetBetter · 26/05/2024 17:59

I don’t post them. I would assume people would find them irrelevant. I rarely post anything to SM but do like to look at other peoples pages / political / wild life stuff.

Goslingsforlife · 26/05/2024 18:00

I wouldn't share them I think (I cannot afford a holiday so it's a different scenario) but I find them often really just a show-off show esp if there are loads every day. nobody is interested in your holiday that much. post them on the family WhatsApp group instead.

likepebblesonabeach · 26/05/2024 18:01

Please be careful if you post photos whilst you are away.
I know a family of 4 who each posted multiple photos daily of their trip to America.
Got home and their house had been burgled, the insurance company wriggled out of paying as they said they had not taken reasonable steps to ensure their property was secure.
I had heard about this happening before but thought it was some sort of urban myth but it absolutely happened to them.

BrieAndChilli · 26/05/2024 18:02

You shouldn’t post any photos of holiday until AFTER you are back home. If you are broken into whilst away some insurance companies will use the fact that you advertised online that your house was empty as a reason not to pay out.

People on your friends list don’t. People on mine do. I don’t think either of us can extrapolate much from that. I post what I want to, and I assume others do the same. I’m certainly not constrained by what ‘people do’.

Yep. This is what I do, 4/5 photos once I'm home.

It’s not showing off. Everyone on my friends list knows where I am as they are my friends. I like to see their pics and 8 assume they like to see mine. If not, they can scroll past .

Yoyooo · 26/05/2024 18:05

Don't post when you're actually on holiday - a robbers dream knowing your house is empty!

everyone on my friends list is an actual friend. Nobody else can see the pictures. I’m pretty sure a) my friends won’t steal my stuff and b) my insurance company won’t be able to see what I’ve posted.

How does it show mu house is empty? It shows where I am, not what’s happening at home. Plus as above only my friends can see it.

SilverGlitterBaubles · 26/05/2024 18:07

I don't post anything, if I want to share something I will send via WhatsApp to specific family members.

SwallowsAmazons · 26/05/2024 18:08

I photo dump mine so I have a backup and can easily find them when I need to.

likepebblesonabeach · 26/05/2024 18:08

@ @cardibach that is totally your choice, my post was about what happened to a family I know not specifically for your situation.
But if you think that insurance companies do not have access to claimants social media you are very naive

cariadlet · 26/05/2024 18:09

I use Twitter and Facebook a lot but rarely post holiday photos because I assume most of my Twitter followers and FB friends wouldn't be interested.

I'll WhatsApp a few to close friends or family who might be interested - I'm going away for a month this summer. Most people will get 3 or 4 pictures. More for dp and adult dd. (dp and I currently have to have separate holidays because of caring responsibilities).

TeenLifeMum · 26/05/2024 18:11

I love seeing friends holiday pics, really enjoy flicking through them. It’s my favourite part of social media.
