If you post holiday photos to social media ...

holbolllol · 26/05/2024 17:50

How many are acceptable?

A few per day of the holiday

A single post of a certain number per weekend or week

If you don't share your holiday snaps, why not?

I prefer to see my friends and family holidays snaps of where they have been and what they have done one as a matter of interest and two in case it's somewhere I'd also like to go.

I prefer to see all the snaps in one post with about 10-15 for a weekend and 15-25 for a week.

I do a dump when I'm back. Don't like people knowing I'm away. I split them by themes. I do it for me really.

CountingCrones · 26/05/2024 18:12

I share on WhatsApp on the day I take them; if I share any on Facebook I post half a dozen when I'm home.

cardibach · 26/05/2024 18:12

likepebblesonabeach · 26/05/2024 18:08

@ @cardibach that is totally your choice, my post was about what happened to a family I know not specifically for your situation.
But if you think that insurance companies do not have access to claimants social media you are very naive

How would they have it? What’s the mechanism for them to access private social media they don’t even know I have?

MigGirl · 26/05/2024 18:13

cardibach · 26/05/2024 18:05

everyone on my friends list is an actual friend. Nobody else can see the pictures. I’m pretty sure a) my friends won’t steal my stuff and b) my insurance company won’t be able to see what I’ve posted.

You are naive if just having your social media shared with friends means others can't hack it and that insurance companies won't take any excuse to get our of paying if they can.

I think you will find that it will be in the fine print of your insurance policy that if you advertise that you are not at home that they can refuse to pay. This can even be if your out for the day let allow a holiday.

I've stopped posting a lot of things on social media until after the event.

Emilyjayne942 · 26/05/2024 18:14

Whenever you want to. I’m a big believer in posting what you want when you want - it’s your social media. If people don’t like seeing your holiday photos they can mute or remove you.

See, I do find pics on WhatsApp irritating. There’s an alert which disturbs me. I have to look at them, or at least open the chat. On social media I can look (or scroll by) whenever I like.

Of course it can be hacked. That doesn’t give the insurance company access. I’ve never seen that caveat either, and I read pretty thoroughly. It’s very debatable whether telling friends would count as ‘advertising’ anyway. I mean, presumably you don’t just disappear without telling anyone?

mindutopia · 26/05/2024 18:17

I would post once a day with a few photos. I enjoy looking at other people’s holiday photos, but I have some friends who post constantly multiple times a day (holiday or no holiday), which is a bit annoying. But equally, if people post a massive dump of photos, I probably wouldn’t look through them all.

likepebblesonabeach · 26/05/2024 18:18

The mechanism is their fraud detection measures.
I'd read your insurance document's if I was you, you seem very naive as to what terms and conditions you have signed up to

I don’t have alerts turned on for WhatsApp. It’s easier to check it at my convenience.

I share photos with my family group (dad, brother and SIL) or with my son (usually of the cat, at his request). If chatting with friends via WhatsApp, we might share a photo while we’re messaging back and forth.

Generally shared photos are limited to after the event.

And you seem very sure you know more about my insurance than do I…how could you? So condescending and superior.
Insurance companies can’t access a private SM account they don’t even know exists. Plus putting pictures on it in no way proves the house is left empty anyway.

I use it for actually communicating, so I need to know when someone contacts me.

tinytemper66 · 26/05/2024 18:30

I only post once home due to insurance etc and

MinervaMcGonagallsCat · 26/05/2024 18:32

I post a big batch once a day.

DappledThings · 26/05/2024 18:32

About 60-70 for a week. After I get home. I go through mine and DH's to get the best ones of any day and put them in order.

Mine are about 90% scenery and castles/temples/churches etc, 9% DC at aforementioned places or on the beach etc and 1% me and DH.

I do it more for storage of my favourite ones and as a sorting exercise than anything else.

That's a bit unnecessarily snarky. It's all "actually communicating."

likepebblesonabeach · 26/05/2024 18:35

@cardibach I know nothing about your insurance policy but it does not take an insurance expert to know that their fraud systems are highly sophisticated. As I said if you honestly think they can not find your online presence you are sorely mistaken.

MinervaMcGonagallsCat · 26/05/2024 18:36

Insurance companies cannot legally access your private social media without a court order.

Bit of tinfoil hat wearing in this thread.

ThingsWillOnlyGetBetter · 26/05/2024 18:37

@DappledThings I am impressed at your photo prowess! I don’t think I take that amount of photos a year! I respect your commitment to the cause.

And I genuinely mean it - no snark.

I have been on a long weekend in a caravan, and posted 14 pics... mostly of my dog in various places 😅

This sounds wonderful

If it's for storage, why not just make an album on Google Photos or similar?

I'd be WTF? if I was scrolling through my feed and found 70 photos had been dumped. I know that you can scroll padt but is anyone else really interested in seeing that many pictures?

notacooldad · 26/05/2024 18:40

I usually post if I se something unusual or if I have gone to a country not many of my friends have been to.
if I’ve gone with friends they tend to post a lot and tag me in their pictures. I’m ok with that.
I have a friend who has posted 60 plus every other day. It’s not an issue for me, I’ll glance at some of them but her close family and friends enjoy seeing them.

Ha! Thank you. I'm not sure anyone else is interested in, for example, 7 photos of the same prehistoric Maltese temple but DH and I both are so I take them and store them on Facebook!

DDivaStar · 26/05/2024 18:43

I would usually post a few a day. I like seeing what my friends and family are up to.

I dont really get why any amount would be unacceptable, Facebook is for sharing info/pictures. If you don't want to look through a post of 20+ photos just scroll on.....
