Scam Blackmail Email

AreYouBeingSeriousNow · 26/05/2024 16:18

I just received the email below, and while I don't visit any adult sites I'm a bit concerned as I do use my iPhone and iPad in the bath. Also DD uses both devices quite a lot.

Like everyone I've received this type of email before and have just googled and seen others have emails that are exactly the same and have binned and blocked the sender. However I can't find anything for this one and it's been sent via an app called UpKeep and has a purchase order attached. It was also in my inbox and not the junk folder which is new.

I know it's unlikely but I'd rather my workmates and family didn't receive footage of my boobs floating about in a bubble bath, as I watch the Bridgerton carriage scene yet again 😂

Also is there anywhere I can report these scumbags as I feel worried enough so can't imagine the panic that someone who has visited adult sites would feel!

Oh come on, you can't actually think that is real in any way, shape or form! Noone is getting your videos.

Arlanymor · 26/05/2024 16:19

Does that look like a normal email address to you?! Total scam, block and delete.

I know the email address is odd but if someone had managed to access my devices then they wouldn't exactly use their personal email address like [email protected]

LazyGaaGaa · 26/05/2024 16:25

I have received lots of these emails over the past year and yes it's a scam.

Our local police force has been raising awareness on social media over the last few months too.

Delete and think no more of it!

AhBiscuits · 26/05/2024 16:27

I've had virtually that exact email numerous times. You have nothing to worry about, just delete it.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 26/05/2024 16:27

Delete and ignore.

The ones asking for bitcoin make me laugh. I have no idea how to do that. If you want to blackmail me, let's make it a currency I understand how to use 😂

upthespoutagain · 26/05/2024 16:28

Are you a female? How exactly would you 'jerk off'? It is a scam. If it was a real message they would have mentioned the boobs for sure!

Arlanymor · 26/05/2024 16:28

But they haven’t, it’s a scam. And that’s what scam email addresses look like. I don’t see how you are not getting my point - it’s a scam therefore the email address is scammy.

😂 that's a good point. Thank you for setting my mind at ease.

I had one the other day with started off " hello pervert" I laughed a lot, rang my best friend to read it to because it was so creative, laughed some more and forgot all about it, scammers will try anything to get money.

Vates · 26/05/2024 16:33

It is a scam. Got the exact same email twice before (years ago!) and nothing happened. The idea is to scare you. Ignore and delete.

AreYouBeingSeriousNow · 26/05/2024 16:33

@Arlanymor no I'm obviously not getting your point. What would the email address look like if it was not a scam and they actually did have footage of me in the bath?

OP posts:
Redglitter · 26/05/2024 16:34

Delete & forget about it

maslinpan · 26/05/2024 16:34

You have to love their suggestion that footage of some anonymous person jerking off is going to go viral on every available platform.

I imagine that if they did have footage of you in the bath & they wanted to convince you, they’d tell you that was what they had & include some detail like the colours of your bath & your wall tiles. Or even better, a screenshot.

gamerchick · 26/05/2024 16:37

That scam came about after one of the black mirrors that was basically the same thing, so it's a few years old. Send it to junk and don't give it any more thoughts.

MermaidEyes · 26/05/2024 16:40

maslinpan · 26/05/2024 16:34

Yes, maybe back in 1980 but now? Billions of naked people at your fingertips. No one is special these days lol

Onda · 26/05/2024 16:44

They didn't say they have footage of you in the bath, they said they have footage of you watching adult videos - which you haven't done. That alone should tell you it's fake.
Plus, it's a very well known scam, as others have said.
Even if it were real (which it isn't), would sending that money really guarantee they'd delete all their footage? I doubt it. They're just after easy money.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 26/05/2024 16:44

OP, everyone gets these! I get them and I'm a 63 year old grandmother who never watches porn! It's one the oldest scams in the book. And, as a pp said, asking for cryptocurrency is just stupid - cash is far easier to come by for most people!

nimski · 26/05/2024 16:46

100% scam.

Mamette · 26/05/2024 16:47

These have been going around for years haven’t they?

I’d love to write back and say thanks but no thanks to the tutoring offer, I’d be more ashamed of your flagrant mis-use of commas than whatever you’re accusing me of!

RubySloth · 26/05/2024 16:54

I think everyone has had this email over the last decade. The same as the Nigerian Prince wanting my bank details 😂

SonicTheHodgeheg · 26/05/2024 16:57

It’s obviously a scam. If it were real then they’d send you a screenshot of the alleged video that they have.

LongSinceGotUpAndGone · 26/05/2024 17:02

Perhaps he'll let you pay him in commas as he evidently collects them.

But, as everyone else says, 100% a scam.
