To think my little boy is an absolute sweetheart?

I don't drink often, almost never because I'm terrible at it. Anyway, a series of strange events yesterday meant that I ended up very much on the sauce and quite pickled when I went to bed at around 3am.
Husband is very asleep and I woke up about an hour ago feeling bloody rotten. My 7 year old came into my bed with a tin of biscuits and a pint of squash and had put ' call the midwife' on my work computer which doubles as the TV for my bedroom. I just couldn't love this kid any more right now. What a little legend he is. I don't deserve him. Currently smashing my way through some custard creams and watching my favourite show with the cutey next to me and feeling so bloody lucky. Lazy day incoming. Anyone else just get blown away sometimes by how nice their kids are and Wonder where it came from?

Bacardi? Oooo. My drink of choice is lager. Never did my kids any harm.

Mine neither, their favourite is Fosters. I like Birra Moretti.

Cattery · 27/05/2024 19:38

Carlsberg for me. 🍺

Cattery · 27/05/2024 19:38

My chaps like a Moretti. Mind you, they are 35 and 26

What about your 7yo?
Trying to get my 7yo onto lambrini to save money but he keeps being sick, it really interrupts my bathroom shooting up session

Not at all. How do the two things, care for a child's safety and being too strict. Read my reply, relating to my former job.

You have small children at retirement age?

If your house is one of “Let me tell you a story of DANGER” sounds like a laugh a minute.

Would you like me tell you about a fire I attended whilst I was in the fire service?

Mom was in bed having been hit by a migrane. She'd phoned her mother to come and look after her so who was 10 at the time. Whilst waiting, son thought he'd cook chips for mom's tea. He put the oil on heat, and went to watch TV, whilst waiting for oil to "boil". Eventually, he went to check and found the oil in flames. He quickly filled a jug with water and threw the water over the burning oil. Would you like me to describe the state of his face and arms when we arrived, the scrams of pain, and the guilt feelings (unjustified) his mother was feeling? There is always a danger when a child is left at home alone, even teenagers can find themselves in difficulty.

Who has chip pans nowadays would have thought most 10 year olds would lnow not to put water on fat or electrical fires! They learn that stuff in Beavers and Brownies!

I was just going to say, unrelated but how good are proper fresh deep fried chips at home. Nice bit of salt and vinegar. Fucking heavenly

What if they were not in Beavers or Brownies, it's not mandatory. This incident did happen some time ago, but it is an illustration of what can happen. Today, it may be as simple as heating oil in a frying pan, it may be incorrectly using a microwave, it maybe, trying to cook something in an oven and not realise the gas has not ignited. Plenty of danger in a home. It may be an incident that I was called to which involved candles and teenagers.

SO good! We never had one at home but my nanna had one in her shed and as a teen the first thing I’d do when visit was to say hello, the second thing was, even if I was about to be fed, I’d go to her shed and make Proper Chips.

Air fryer ones are not the same and I will die on this hill.

Firefighters visit schools from reception age and they’re told about deep fat fryers and pan fires.
I’d be amazed if a 10yo with no knowledge of putting out a fire did anything except run to mum
