To think you should warn people you have XL Bullies in your house before they come over?

I posted not long ago about going to a home salon and how much it stank of dogs and she told me she had 5 or 6 dogs.

I’ve since found out she actually owns 4 XL Bullies and she never once told me booking the appointment.

Aibu to think that’s just wrong? The salon is just a room in her house. Now I’m not terrified of dogs but yes I would feel extremely intimidated had I been in a small room with 4 of them.

Are they kept away from where she does hair? Or are they able to wander freely?

albertoross · 23/05/2024 17:35

Presumably the dogs are kept well away?

OneTC · 23/05/2024 17:37

You weren't in a room with any of them then?

Temporaryname158 · 23/05/2024 17:38

A door could accidentally be left open. There is no way on earth I’d be going there again once I found that out

AtrociousCircumstance · 23/05/2024 17:39

Totally not ok. Supposedly ‘secured’ XL Bullies kill.

LlynTegid · 23/05/2024 17:39

I'd cancel straight away and say why.

Indeed I might even seek to ask the police if they had been registered.

Begsthequestion · 23/05/2024 17:40

Yeah I wouldn't be willing to risk being in a house with four of them.

Exactly that. Its just an ordinary door between the salon room and the rest of the house.

Plus she’s one woman, IF the worst was to happen to someone she’s not going to be able to control 4 dogs.

Agreed, OP.

Fasterthanacarrot · 23/05/2024 17:42

I would specifically ask if I was going to someone’s home, I don’t like any type of dog or cat so would actively avoid them

OneFrenchEgg · 23/05/2024 17:43

Really I am so glad I no longer make home visits in deprived areas (or any areas) - I know it's a stereotype but the fear of being attacked was often there, now I wouldn't want to enter someone's house.

SkankingWombat · 23/05/2024 17:44

I wouldn't be back TBH.

I wonder what the law says about this? They need to be muzzled in public and this is her home, but by making it a place of work I would assume there are extra legal responsibilities?

Meadowfinch · 23/05/2024 17:45

I'd warn any visitor of any pet. Allergies are so common, it's basic good manners to give people some advance warning.

Im wondering the same. I wonder if she has any kind of liability insurance?

Mcvitieschoccybiscuit · 23/05/2024 17:48

I wouldn’t be going back if it stank of dogs anyway regardless of what breed.

XL bullies seem to be worse when there’s more than one in the house. The lady that was killed this week had 2 and I’m sure some of the other attacks involved more than one.

She should definitely be warning clients. It only takes one mistake for them to escape.

OldTinHat · 23/05/2024 17:50

They should tell you ahead of a home booking if they have pets.

If that was a cat and not dogs, I'd be on my way to hospital.

Yeah nearly every one I have read there are at least one. Four is completely irresponsible. That woman would be dead in a few minutes if they attack.

Yes, the more there are the more dangerous they become.

If one is set off, they go into a kind of pack mode and then even a grown adult doesn't stand a chance. I definitely wouldn't go to a house that had four XL bullies and would ideally avoid a house that had one.

I think it ought to be illegal to keep more than one XL Bully in one household.

Caravaggiouch · 23/05/2024 18:21

Completely irresponsible of her not to let clients know. I wouldn’t want to go in a house with 5 or 6 large dogs of any breed tbh, but especially not a prohibited breed.

Fleurdalys · 23/05/2024 18:22

Good God
Bloody stupid woman

SwingingPlantar · 23/05/2024 18:22

If someone owns 4 XLB’s then they aren’t going to be the type of person that thinks it’s a concern and let you know as they see no issue with it. Surely that’s against all kind of rules to having a home business?

MeepMep · 23/05/2024 18:26

I'd report her to 101.

I was at the vets today and one came in, muzzled but it was fucking huge, thankfully it was taken straight into a side room and back out again. But the nurse made a big fuss of how lovely XLs are 🙄

I noticed how everyone in the waiting room clutched their small dogs and cat carrier closer.

The woman couldn't even pull it back from pulling towards the other animals.

It had its balls too which I thought was illegal??

sleepyscientist · 23/05/2024 18:30

You sure they are actually XL bullies? Can't imagine her insurance allows it if they are, is it not a similar type dog, dogue de Bordeaux look very similar if you're not into dogs for example. It's always a risk with home salons that people will have dogs running round. I can remember a TV show of a big saloon that had a pack of chihuahuas running around.

CuloGrande · 23/05/2024 18:30

I work in community healthcare - I went on a home visit last year heavily pregnant. Was told they had just got a puppy, it was a 10 month old xl. In a house with an kid, and a bedbound owner.

whoputallofthatthere · 23/05/2024 18:34

I can't understand what would possess anyone to acquire four of these things. I adore dogs, but why would you choose an XL over all the other breeds available?

Anyway, I wouldn't feel comfortable about this either, OP.
