To think you should warn people you have XL Bullies in your house before they come over?

I posted not long ago about going to a home salon and how much it stank of dogs and she told me she had 5 or 6 dogs.

I’ve since found out she actually owns 4 XL Bullies and she never once told me booking the appointment.

Aibu to think that’s just wrong? The salon is just a room in her house. Now I’m not terrified of dogs but yes I would feel extremely intimidated had I been in a small room with 4 of them.

No way I'd be using her services!

Yeah, I understand that but can’t believe we made the criteria so loose as to allow that many to remain. I’m not sure what we could’ve differently as I’m not an expert, but maybe only allowed some below a certain weight or something?

I'm not sure weight would be the best way to judge: cue lots of owners starving their dogs to get/keep them below the threshold... If I was stuck in a space with an XL, I would want it to be contentedly well-fed, not hangry and desperately looking for its next meal!

Crikey, that sounds awful.
Bed bound owner? It doesn't bear thinking about!

You can’t make it up! They locked it in the kitchen and all I heard was it crashing about, apparently just ‘excited and playing’. Don’t worry about walks though, the elderly year old mother came round to do them 🙄

Great point. There must’ve been some tighter criteria that could’ve been applied though. As it stands it’s a ban in name only. It wouldn’t be a bad thing for an outright ban and 100% euthanasia, certainly better than letting 50k of them remain.

How about we ban keeping as pets any animal that is capable of killing a human being. XL, Rottweiler, Alsation, etc banned.

Collie, labrador, spaniel etc ok

Restricting those capable of overpowering an average adult maybe. I would certainly never have a pet I couldn't physically remove from my child if necessary. That's what so terrifying about XL bullies - fully grown men can't drag them off.

I presume, if so inclined, a labrador is capable of killing a baby.

I picked DS up from a friend's house, only to be greeted by an XL Bully. To say I was not happy is an understatement. No warning of any dogs, nevermind an XL Bully. DS will not be returning.

My son came home from his friend's and said they had an XL bully! I've told him to only have his friend round ours from now on.

Perhaps if there is a history of a breed killing x amount of people over the last x years then they are classed as a banned breed?

So in the last 30 years have more than 10 people been killed by labradors? No? Not banned.

Rottweilers? Yes. OK banned breed restrictions on them including muzzle in public and leads at all times and restrictions on breeding and ownership.

DarkDarkNight · 25/05/2024 16:35

I’d be disgusted by a home salon that stank of dogs never mind what breed they were 🤢

RickyGervaislovesdogs · 25/05/2024 16:39

Voted YABU as I wouldn’t go to a house that stinks to get my hair done or possibly even a house with that many dogs unless they were well looked after.

It’s the human breeders we should be going after, punish them before they just pick on another breed to create another poor Frankendog whether it’s an XL or a frenchie.

Figures show 57,277 exemption certificates have been issued to owners who want to keep their pet.
^ Brilliant. Responsible owners.

There was a horrible story about a jack Russell killing a baby a few years ago, all dogs are capable of being dangerous in the right circumstances.

OP I wouldn’t be back, I love dogs and have a dog but wouldn’t ever knowingly put myself near an XL bully never mind 4 of them, you just wouldn’t stand a chance.

Allofaflutter · 25/05/2024 17:07

4 is a pack that will work as one. I would be warning others.

1mabon · 25/05/2024 17:08

I wouldn't go near the place.

madroid · 25/05/2024 21:10

@YellowHairband yes, I agree. Although may animals are probably capable of killing a person, you could stop say a jack russell. And there are many breeds that seem to just not have a killer drive.

Whereas the bigger aggressive breeds you can see that killing drive is just below the surface and the 'fur baby pet' is just a veneer, mostly existing in the owner's imagination. You may as well keep a lion in the house.
