To think you should warn people you have XL Bullies in your house before they come over?

I posted not long ago about going to a home salon and how much it stank of dogs and she told me she had 5 or 6 dogs.

I’ve since found out she actually owns 4 XL Bullies and she never once told me booking the appointment.

Aibu to think that’s just wrong? The salon is just a room in her house. Now I’m not terrified of dogs but yes I would feel extremely intimidated had I been in a small room with 4 of them.

I'd report her to 101.

I was at the vets today and one came in, muzzled but it was fucking huge, thankfully it was taken straight into a side room and back out again. But the nurse made a big fuss of how lovely XLs are 🙄

I noticed how everyone in the waiting room clutched their small dogs and cat carrier closer.

The woman couldn't even pull it back from pulling towards the other animals.

It had its balls too which I thought was illegal??

There are a few dates for neutering XLs. This was due to making sure puppies were old enough and taking into account bitches in season.
The deadline currently is the end of June.

WetBandits · 23/05/2024 18:41

So how did you find out if you didn’t see the dogs?

Reugny · 23/05/2024 18:51

Anyone with a pet or pets e.g. cat, dog, rabbit that are allowed to roam around a home or workplace should warn visitors in advance.

Even if the dogs weren't XL bullies 6 dogs is a pack. That's far too many dogs especially as the place stank of dog.

lhlh · 23/05/2024 19:11

I wouldn’t go to anyone’s home salon for any reason at all. You can never tell what or who will be there.

ICantThinkofAnythingClever · 23/05/2024 19:20

So many dogs of the same type spells breeder to me. They are a fighting breed so it could also mean involvement in dog fights.

mitogoshi · 23/05/2024 19:28

@lhlh

I use one and it's great. No different to anywhere where they work alone:

I picked DS up from a friend's house, only to be greeted by an XL Bully. To say I was not happy is an understatement. No warning of any dogs, nevermind an XL Bully. DS will not be returning.

I would have gone apeshit.

You're right to not let him return.

Did you tell them that? And why?

Screamingabdabz · 23/05/2024 19:35

YANBU. I’m just amazed so many people like the ugly things. And with young children! It would be like living in a horror movie, never knowing when it would snap and tear your throat out. Some people are absolute morons.

This is my worst nightmare. I am dreading navigating play dates for my DD.

RandomButtons · 23/05/2024 19:54

This is why I don’t do home visits anymore. I got bitter twice by clients dogs. Neither of them banned breeds. One was a supposedly lovely to everyone Labrador.

Not all dogs like having their space invaded

HRTQueen · 23/05/2024 20:04

What sort of idiot has four of these vicious animals in their home

no I absolutely would not be returning with one never mind four

Youcannotbeseriousreally · 23/05/2024 20:06

There is only one type of person that would own one of these dogs , let alone four. I wouldn’t have them in my life in any capacity. Don’t return. Gross and really irresponsible.

Shufflebumnessie · 23/05/2024 20:29

YANBU in the slightest! I don't particularly like dogs (apart from the odd one) as I'm quite scared of them.
My previous hairdresser had a home salon and one of the reasons I stopped going to her was because of her new dog.
She had one dog when I started going there but she was very chilled and just lay on a chair. However, the new dog was very boisterous, kept jumping up, barking etc. It left large scratches on my arms and legs from where it kept jumping up repeatedly (whilst she was trying to cut my hair). I asked if it was possible for the dog to go in another room but apparently that would have been unfair to the dog.
My hairdresser thought that was the dog was being cute & friendly and that it perfectly acceptable behaviour
After that I never went back.

Snapplepie · 23/05/2024 20:32

Was this in nottingham? I've had exactly the same experience! Definitely XL bullies and 2 of them were let in the room and jumped all over me in the chair!

Can you say your child has a bad dog allergy and check if nay dogs in the house that way?

TheaBrandt · 23/05/2024 20:41

I just don’t understand why anyone would want one? Just why? It’s so weird. But am not a dog person at all

PixieLaLar · 23/05/2024 20:42

I’m a massive dog lover but tbh I think it’s quite irresponsible having 4 of any large breed dog. No one can physically restrain 4 large dogs if they were to turn for some reason.

Mrsdyna · 23/05/2024 20:46

I am allergic to dogs so I'd want to know so that I could cancel the appointment.

What irresponsible parents not to have told you about their dangerous dog. Never go back there.

FredsRoses · 23/05/2024 20:52

I think you should probably report this to your local council OP, as it's one thing running a business from home, but keeping those sort of animals there, has got to be high risk, and surely it's got to be worth a phone call to find out if it's actually breaking any laws? Also, if it's not breaking any laws now, then perhaps it should be outlawed in order to protect her customers. Perhaps it's something that no one thought of while introducing the current laws, and an amendment could be made. I know you have no intention of going back OP, but would like to think you might take some action to protect others from finding themselves in the same position you were in.

I can't imagine what my reaction would have been! You have totally done the right thing.

Countrygirlxo · 23/05/2024 20:56

My partner worked in a house last week with an XL bully, he wasn't warned and it wandered freely. He said it was a right softy and the dog wasn't fazed that there was a stranger in it's house. Maybe the upbringing determines the temperament but I personally wouldn't want to be anywhere near one

TeenLifeMum · 23/05/2024 21:02

They all think their xl is different and “wouldn’t hurt a fly”. I think they genuinely believe it. It’s bonkers. I have a cocker spaniel and as much as I’m fairly confident he wouldn’t hurt anyone I’m aware he’s a dog and if he was in pain then he may react out of character. There’s always a risk.
