Sick of vile vape smoke.

It’s bloody everywhere and I’m sick of massive plumes blowing into my kid’s buggy. So bloody selfish. That is all…

OP posts:
LoopyLooooo · 23/05/2024 21:40

I don't like the sweet smell particularly but it's way better than fag smoke IMO.

It smells a bit like burning candyfloss.

I do agree with a PP though that some MNetters can get very over dramatic about it.

NoEffingWay · 23/05/2024 21:42

I think what we forget collectively is how much less people smoke now, and how gross the stench of cigarettes used to be.

LunaNorth · 23/05/2024 21:43

One of the flavours knocks me sick, because it smells exactly like Pripsen threadworm medicine from the 1980s.

I’d rather get a good sniff of Silk Cut <nostalgia>

lawn365 · 23/05/2024 21:44

Yes I don't like it either. Its horrible!!!

TTCaxristi · 23/05/2024 21:45

parkrun500club · 23/05/2024 11:36

Yes I don't like it either. It's even more horrible than cigarette smoke,

And then you have the constant lingering smell of weed...

The smell of weed is the absolute worst. I can’t stand it. Who are these people who think it’s ok to smoke it on the streets?!

cyclamenqueen · 23/05/2024 21:50

cakewitch · 23/05/2024 21:35

It's just steam.. that's all.. and most household air fresheners smell much much worse

No they really don’t .

Cyanobacterium · 23/05/2024 21:53

I don't think vapers realise care how much blows out behind them and into the faces of passers by.

^^There, fixed it.

As far as I am concerned, causing toxic smoke or vapour to end up in someone else's lungs without consent should be considered assault or poisoning.

Monwmum · 23/05/2024 22:04

It's disgusting! We noticed it more than ever on holiday last year around the pool! It just constantly smelt sickly sweet and fruity! The flavours all seem so gross 🤢 Can't believe anyone wants to inhale the smell of sweets!

Vapers seem to be very inconsiderate of others though much more so than smokers...

Ponderingwindow · 23/05/2024 22:11

WiddlinDiddlin · 23/05/2024 21:27

Yes. Yes they are.

exhales huge cloud of Grape & Strawberry Candy flavour vapour

Very few adult vapers want to use tobacco flavours, most people think thats what they'll vape when they give up the fags and they try it for a short while and go off it pretty rapidly in favour of the sweet/fruit/candy/cake flavours.

To answer a few other points, I forget who made them:

'Im allergic to the flavourings'

you're allergic to all the flavours? Really, every single one? Wow. Because each flavour has different ingredients, all of which originate in the food industry, you must really struggle to eat anything.

Possibly you're allergic to one of the two base carriers in vapes, Propylene glycol and vegetable glycerin - both are safe and common food additives (and are found in many more products beyond food).

It's disgusting breathing in what someone else has breathed out

I can't really help you there - stop breathing in public places, invest in a plastic bubble to live in, wear a filtration mask and breath only filtered air?

Everywhere you go, you're breathing in what someone else breathed out, and more and much worse. You're breathing in the gas that comes out of peoples arses (and cat farts, dog farts, cow farts... so many farts) the exhaust fumes from yours and other peoples cars, planes, helicopters, boats and trains. Any time you're stuck in a room with other humans you're breathing in some of what they breathed out. There is no escape from this.

Vapers do not cause you to breath in more of this disgusting stuff, they just let you see that little portion that you're breathing in. If everything we churn out into our atmosphere came with a neat coloured cloud so we could see it... welllll.. ew.

It's worse than cigarette smoke

No. It isn't. Public Health Englands study into vaping and examination of multiple studies showed that for the secondary inhaler, ie you judgey grumpy non-vapers - it is absolutely, categorically, better than cigarette smoke.

The jury is out on whether its 100% safe for the primary user, me, the common, unclassy, disgusting vaper - but thats fine, we are well aware of that. It is still safer than smoking.

I am allergic to fragrance mix I and balsam of Peru plus other things but those are the only ones relevant to this discussion. They are used in most commercial products from personal care, cleaning supplies, food, and yes, vapes. Flavoring often actually means fragrance.

yes, I do struggle to eat . I struggle to find things like toothpaste and shampoo. I struggle to leave my house. Last time I went to the doctor, even though they took precautions, I had an allergic reaction because they wiped some equipment down with something that wasn’t safe.

WiddlinDiddlin · 23/05/2024 22:16

I am sorry you have to live with such limitations, but thats not the fault of vapers - if no one could do a thing that someone, somewhere is allergic to... we'd all stay home and do nothing really!

LauderSyme · 23/05/2024 22:19

@Cyanobacterium "As far as I am concerned, causing toxic smoke or vapour to end up in someone else's lungs without consent should be considered assault or poisoning."

That would have an interesting effect on the criminal justice system given that traffic exists. I don't consent to anyone poisoning me with their petrol and diesel vehicle exhaust fumes either.

Better put a message out before you climb in your car then.

LauderSyme · 23/05/2024 22:26

Hate to tell you OP but your kid's body is going to be exposed to far worse things in life. Their blood is probably infested with microplastics already.

Scammersarescum · 23/05/2024 22:30

I was at an indoor concert last week and the two women in front of me vaped heavily throughout. Sadly the ushers did not see them

Had a sore chest by the end of the show.

Selfish buggers.

Cyanobacterium · 23/05/2024 22:58

I do agree with a PP though that some MNetters can get very over dramatic about it.

Some of us have lung conditions, thanks, and we certainly don't want it near our babies. That's not dramatic, it's just common sense. And it is common decency for smokers and vapers to stay away from others while doing it. Also, with all the focus on clean air both inside and outside, quite rightly so, it seems ridiculous to permit this. You should have to be a certain distance away from non-consenting people to smoke or vape, and it's you that has to move not them.

And we certainly shouldn't have the anomaly that smoking and vaping are allowed in open-style bus stops, on train platforms etc. You should not be allowed to cause smoking or vaping related smells to find their way into neighbouring properties either, that should be considered nuisance. If we were starting from scratch it would be absolutely clear that the current permissiveness on smoking or vaping - when it interferes with bystanders - is bonkers.

Upallnight2 · 23/05/2024 23:25

Jesus, people are so dramatic 🤣

Ohhhthedrama · 24/05/2024 00:27

Y'all must be super sensitive to smells. I share an office with a vaper, and I don't smell anything or struggle to breathe at all

NCgoingdry · 24/05/2024 06:22

@Wheelyfembot Imagine getting so worked up over a made-up condition entirely unrelated to vaping that you have to call a stranger a cunt Biscuit

Amx · 24/05/2024 06:41

I don't smoke or vape but I love the marshmallowy smell of the fat clouds.

I can't stand weed though. It reeks.

Hiker50 · 24/05/2024 06:44

My DD went to Thorpe Park last week and people were vaping on the roller coasters. Everyone in every queue was vaping all the time. Imagine not being able to stop for even a few minutes on a roller coaster!

songaboutjam · 24/05/2024 06:56

My friend is asthmatic and can be badly affected by vaping. I'm quite shocked at some of the comments which have clearly given no thought to people with health conditions.

Did you at least mask up during Covid?

cyclamenqueen · 24/05/2024 07:32

There has been some recent research from the US showing that Vaping has many of the same health effects as smoking . It’s better than smoking but definitely not risk free , the American Institute of cardiology has shown that long term vaping increases the risk of heart failure by 20% . A UCL/University of Innsbruck study found changes in mouth cells were the same in vapers as in smokers .

‘Smoking tobacco was found to substantially change epithelial cells in the mouth. Epithelial cells often make up the lining of organs and are a common origin for cancer. Similar changes were observed in vape users, despite the fact that these participants had all smoked fewer than 100 tobacco cigarettes throughout their lives.’

Lovemybunnies · 24/05/2024 07:34

I loathe it. The smell makes me feel sick and it worries me to death when my 10 year old says ‘that’s a nice smell’.

Vape liquid in the US is not regulated like here. The deaths and popcorn lung you see are from the US.

The liquids here are much cleaner and safer.

Do you get a sore chest from other water vapour or steam products?
