The argument re the question mark was a really good one. She was clearly telling not asking.

It’s a bit like believing there was a grizzly bear working in her office for years and she never noticed, despite it wandering the halls, frequent roaring, the occasional mauling of staff members and severed body parts being left in reception. And the bear attended all board meetings.

Excellent analogy.

Love how she tried to take control of the line of questioning and the barrister floored her without even breaking a sweat.

Note to Paula Vennels: don't attempt to cross swords with barristers because they're seriously good at their jobs. Unlike you, Paula, who seems to know so very little about your job that it's a miracle you even found your way into your office every morning.

She got three million in performance related benefits. I’d love to know what performance was measured on.

So glad the counsel called her out on the fact that she can mysteriously remember details that paint others in a damning light, but not those that do so for the Post Office.

Yes, it's an enigma, isn't it?

murasaki · 22/05/2024 16:22

PV: you can't come in to a high pressure situation with a strategy.

Me : wtf?

JB: So the strategy in this document....

Jellycatspyjamas · 22/05/2024 16:23

I do wonder what evidence those post office workers were sent to prison on, what solid evidence was presented to the Magistrates/Judges in order for those sentences to be handed down by them.

Wasn’t part of the issue the Post Office having the power to investigate and prosecute their own staff, so no independent examination of evidence by the police or CPS?

Quebeccles · 22/05/2024 16:23

Bloody hell, this is SHOCKING

littlbrowndog · 22/05/2024 16:24

No functionally. Well perhaps if pushed yes there was

This whole case needs looking into from first the numbers not tallying up to those having been sent to prison.

Yes, I agree entirely.

I do wonder what evidence those post office workers were sent to prison on, what solid evidence was presented to the Magistrates/Judges in order for those sentences to be handed down by them.

As far as I understand it, it was the corrupted accounts, showing imaginary shortfalls.

The Fujitsu mob have probably committed offences under the Misuse of Computers Act and GDPR.

murasaki · 22/05/2024 16:28

Ooh, he's got her here re balancing transactions.

littlbrowndog · 22/05/2024 16:28

I didn’t understand 😉

EggcornAcorn · 22/05/2024 16:29

Shroedinger's Balancing Transactions. PV both knew and did not know about them.

murasaki · 22/05/2024 16:29

littlbrowndog · 22/05/2024 16:28

I didn’t understand 😉

I didn't register that, she then said

so she doesn't read stuff, or she lied to parliament, or, shock horror, both.

The fact that she is a C of E vicar shocks me. Then I remember the many stories of vicars and priests doing all sorts of awful things.

I think it goes some way to explain her clouded judgement. Maybe her thought process went something like: "These people were weak and so succumbed to temptation to steal. I know that I would not do this because I have the power of Jesus in my heart. That explains the actions of these sinful people - not any fault in my staff or the systems I oversee."

The kind of simplistic reasoning that can be conjured only by the truly zealous.

littlbrowndog · 22/05/2024 16:31

By the time I got to select committee I decided to tell a lie

Elsewhere123 · 22/05/2024 16:35

How many other CEOs on huge salaries are just as incompetent? The idea of having workers on the board as in Germany is increasingly attractive.

littlbrowndog · 22/05/2024 16:38

AutumnCrow · 22/05/2024 16:38
