Do you wear make up when boarding a plane?

I’m going on holiday soon and it’s my first time flying. I usually wear make up everyday and want to wear make up on a 5 hour flight. I’ve read make up should be avoided on planes due to drying the skin out. Does anyone else wear make when on a plane or is it it best to avoid?

My flight has been delayed and I don't expect to get home much before 4 am. The last thing I want to do is faff around removing make up at that time of the morning.

Kalevala · 21/05/2024 21:15

Never wear makeup, anywhere. Do make sure I drink plenty of water and always take moisturiser.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 21/05/2024 21:18

If it's a pm or night flight but I wouldn't put make up on at 4am to go on midday

PrincessHoneysuckle · 21/05/2024 21:19

holiday

It takes you half an hour to put make up on? Wow. I take max 5.

Probably, but that includes my skincare regime before make up too. But I don't wear make up much to be honest

Lavender14 · 21/05/2024 21:49

Personally I don't, I find my skin breaks out from flying so wearing makeup tends to make it worse. I just go with a fresh face and some good moisturiser on and then wash my face and reapply when I land.

Thank you so much for the responses. It’s just that I’ve read everywhere to avoid wearing. Don’t want to not wear it and not look my best when I land on holiday. X

Personally not full make up. If it's a long journey I tend to sleep and want to be comfortable. I do wear concealer and maybe very very light foundation - not entire face and lipgloss.

MartinsSpareCalculator · 21/05/2024 21:50

Only if I'm going straight to a meeting, otherwise I just keep my skin hydrated.

Clueless2024 · 21/05/2024 21:55

I was lucky enough to fly a 30 hour trip business class & I had the same conundrum. I wanted to "look the part". It was a night flight, with a very quick layover so no time to "freshen up". In the end, I went bare faced. But normally, during any domestic flight I wear make up. Just be sure to drink a tonne of water as flying is dehydrating

Snugglemonkey · 21/05/2024 22:01

Nothing.

I wear loose, comfy clothes, my birkies, hair in loose top bun, face bare (do bring moisturising spritz).

If I am landing during the day, I might put my face on towards the end of the flight as a way to use up time. Mostly though, I just land like a scruff!

StormingNorman · 21/05/2024 22:08

All those beauty articles about flying are designed to sell products.

I just do whatever I’d normally do with my make-up and skincare. Although it can make skin a little drier so I drink a lot of water and use a heavier moisturiser when I next wash my face. Something like Weleda Skin Food is heaven.

Toxicinlawz · 21/05/2024 22:15

I always wear make up on the plane but I don't usually wear it day to day as I work from home so for me it's abit sad that my plane journey is also a day out for me 🤣🤣This is good from Pixi , On-The-Glow Moisturising Balm Stick. Its good for travel as well

MaryFuckingFerguson · 21/05/2024 22:19

I always wear makeup and we fly long haul a few times a year. It makes zero difference to my skin.

I also wear jeans and keep my contact lenses in and am perfectly fine.

size4feet · 21/05/2024 22:50

Have you never flown before OP? A 5 hour flight is a non event skin wise

size4feet · 21/05/2024 22:50

Sorry I see it's your first flight. Are you really nervous because I wonder if you are focussing in this as a distraction. It's going to get fine

Emmz1510 · 24/05/2024 13:07

I’ve never heard anything about not wearing it! I don’t wear much anyway so I just wear what I normally would- mascara, a touch of blusher and sometimes a touch of foundation. Plenty moisturiser first and you should be good

Insidelaurashead · 24/05/2024 13:18

OP just consider your skincare when you're thinking of the other end-if you're going somewhere warm will you need a moisturiser that's a bit more moisturising than normal, for example? Plan a bit of a mini facial when you get to your hotel and remove your makeup, that's what I do

Never heard this, I generally always wear some make up (not lots) and have flown loads without any issues.

Just wear whatever you normally do.

Maddy70 · 24/05/2024 13:32

I always wear make up

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 24/05/2024 13:50

Those of you who apply it before landing ... where do you do it? I'm picturing a standard economy flight seat or the loo being grubby, dirty horrible places Confused

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 24/05/2024 13:52

The one year I decided to go make up free was the year I saw a gorgeous ex checking in for his holiday with his family Confused pretended I'd not seen him then kept hiding behind pillars until we boarded Grin

ChocolateCroissantCafe · 24/05/2024 14:02

I wear the lightest version of the make-up I'd wear daily, as it seems to travel best for me. I find the environment's similar to the train so maybe think about how your usual make-up lasts on a train journey?

Ygfrhj · 24/05/2024 14:11

Only on work travel when I know my colleagues are on the same flight! My face feels grimy after travelling all day and having make up on makes it worse. But I don't think it actually affects my skin, just feels nasty.

I know you said it's your first time so in order to manage your expectations airports don't have welcoming committees, who are you looking your best for 😀

JustMove · 24/05/2024 15:18

I don't wear or own any make up, however I always wear some lip balm when flying as for some reason my lips dry out.
I give my face a once over around thirty minutes before landing with a facial wipe, then reapply moisturiser and lip balm.
