If I cancel an order on Vinted without buyer's agreement what will happen?

I've sold a lot of stuff on Vinted recently as we are moving house, never had any issues whatsoever and 100% 5 star feedback so far from over 60 or so parcels sent in the past month. All good.

However this evening I uploaded an item that I have instantly regretted listing for the price it's at. It's a baby carrier that retails at £160 and I've listed it for £45. It's in pristine barely used condition. Other similar items are selling for in the region of £60-90, so I think I've made a mistake. It's been instantly snapped up, of course. I'm now full of regret and want to cancel it and relist at a more appropriate price.

However, if I do this, will I get negative feedback? I know they'll be refunded, but does Vinted automatically give me negative feedback, or does it give the buyer the option to do so? I don't want to spoil my 100% perfect reviews on there but I also don't want to let this item go for £45 anymore!

Can anyone advise? Thank you

Ok I've done it!

I've messaged to apologise profusely that I have realised it's worth more, and cancelled the sale and blocked the person.

Fingers crossed my reviews aren't affected 😬

Yeah, God forbid 🙄

Flamingogirl08 · 20/05/2024 10:11

I understand where you're coming from but you do deserve negative feedback to be fair!

peakygold · 20/05/2024 10:13

I would take the financial hit rather than risk my feedback score. Just learn from your mistake and make a buyer happy.

Thanks @AlltheFs
Will the buyer not get an option to leave bad feedback though? I don't want to spoil my perfect reviews, I've worked hard for those 😭

Yes and you'd deserve it. This is your error not the buyer just sell it at the listed price and think before listing next time.

sweetpickle2 · 20/05/2024 10:21

Why on earth would you tell them the reason if not getting negative feedback is so important to you?? If I was them I'd leave you negative feedback.

vintedquestion · 20/05/2024 18:06

A little update: I have now re sold the item for a more appropriate amount and sorry to disappoint many of you (🤣) but my feedback is still 100% perfect.

Thanks for all your advice!

Why thank you. And you deserve all the happiness. All the best to you.

Why on earth would you tell the truth?!

Oh I know An honest person as well as making a mistake with the pricing of a second hand item which I'm not familiar with the market value of. I mean, whatever next! . I deserve to be burnt at the stake for these crimes, surely 😁

It’s hardly the crime of the century, but you screwed someone over for a better offer let’s face it, and didn’t give them the chance to leave a review which might have warned other potential buyers. I buy loads from Vinted and if a seller frequently cancels orders I don’t buy, it’s not worth the hassle.

Cherrysoup · 20/05/2024 18:58

I cancelled a transaction and Vinted sent a message saying if I do it a second time, I’ll get negative feedback so I don’t think it matters.

I'm really torn about what to do.

If you were the buyer in this situation and I messaged to say I think I've massively underpriced this item so I'm going to relist it, sorry - would you leave negative feedback? 🤔

Absolutely - the buyer could need the money as much as you, and will now have to pay more for the same item.

cansu · 20/05/2024 19:06

Personally I would be annoyed and give negative feedback.

BlueyandBingo · 20/05/2024 19:07

Just be aware that if you sell more than £1k worth of items in a year you can be taxed on it. If it is more than £1k you are meant to report it but if it is more than 30 items or £1700 Vinted have to tell HMRC.

Haha I wish I was anywhere near this! Sadly I'm not. But thanks for the heads up 😊

Good job I don't "frequently" cancel orders then isn't it 😊

I've sent out 82 parcels since mid April. I've cancelled ONE of those orders (this one).

The OP doesn't owe anyone anything. She can change her mind. Some bloody daft comments on this post

@AlwaysGinPlease I thought it was just me😂

Urgh maybe I should just take this one as a learning experience and sell it at the price listed. I really don't want to risk negative comments on my profile. I'm such a wimp that will really upset me 🤣

No dont do this! Just cancel it and relist in a few days with a price you’re happy with. It’s your first time, there will be no repercussions. I’d personally message the buyer to say sorry a that your having to cancel the sale due to unforeseen circumstances or something. You don’t need to explain.

Misconductpolice · 09/12/2024 21:26

Put it down to stupidity on your part. The buyer acted in good faith

Alwayswonderedwhy · 09/12/2024 21:29

I cancelled an order last week and didn't receive automatic negative feedback. The buyer just gets a refund as far as I can work out. I didn't have to give a reason either.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 09/12/2024 21:31

I've only ever cancelled one order, same day sold with agreement from buyer.

I got Vinted 5 * auto feedback

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 09/12/2024 21:32

Sorry I'm talking tosh ... there wasn't actually any feedback for that transaction at all. So no impact whatsoever

Sampler · 09/12/2024 21:38

How much extra did you get for the item op ?

bluebalou · 09/12/2024 21:47

That's a nasty thing to do and then block them.. no wonder people are going off vinted with sellers like you, couldn't you just be honest fgs instead of being selfish and worrying about your stars. Such a low thing to do.

I'm so weirdly invested in getting an answer to this 😂 @vintedquestion
