To tell two men to shut the fuck up?

I'm on a coach and two grown men at the back playing phones out quite loud. This is going to be a long journey. I'm sure they think it's an extension of their living room. They look rough.

It's so antisocial, I hate this kind of selfishness. You could probably go in with a less aggressive approach though. Ask them to use headphones before you start on the effing and blinding.

I don't think they'll have headphones tbh. They don't look to be considerate type of folk. As long as they're happy watching their sport at full volume, that's all that matters. They're those kind of folk.

Well if they look rough ,I'm.not sure its wise to swear at them.?

Thepeopleversuswork · 19/05/2024 11:43

From a self protection perspective I wouldn’t go in all guns blazing, particularly if you are stuck with them for a while.

But in my mind I would be garrotting them and boiling their testicles.

LadyKenya · 19/05/2024 11:47

Who on earth would think that going and swearing at people like that is a good idea? I would not say anything personally, if they lack such basic consideration for other people around them, I highly doubt they would take kindly to someone pointing that out to them.

Dweetfidilove · 19/05/2024 11:53

That’d probably make you as rough as them, so maybe just ask them to turn it down

jeaux90 · 19/05/2024 11:58

I would definitely say something but I'm 52 and give zero fucks.

MsFogi · 19/05/2024 12:05

I've had this every time I've gone on a long train journey over the last few months - always a couple of middle age blokes thinking it's okay to play their 'exciting' football/boxing clips to each other on full volume. I didn't say anything - just fumed for hours.

Hairspray123 · 19/05/2024 12:11

Do you have earplugs? If you dont, buy some if you stop at services or use some tissue. Put in your on earphones. It is the middle of the day you cant expect people to be silent and should have anticipated this. Unfortunately not everyone is polite and aware of their surroundings.

You can't expect people to be silent. People are allowed to talk.

You absolutely can expect people not to blare out their music or videos to everyone.

Cofaki · 19/05/2024 12:24

They might be nice. You can't really tell. Go over with a big smile and ask if they could use headphones or turn the volume right down and see what they say.
If they say no, blast some music out at full volume near them and sing along tunelessly.

HebburnPokemon · 19/05/2024 12:27

Can the driver confront them? At least they have the authority to remove anyone who turns abusive.

Where exactly did I say that it was fine for anyone to be so loud that it causes an annoyance?

I had this on a bus last year but not men 3 young school girls about 13-15 the were loud and the phones were louder.
Me with a banging migraine not had the best of days.
The bus driver did tell them to keep it down nice of him however 10 mins later up it started again.
Little kids on the bus were just looking at them.
I looked right at them and said keep it the fuck down or get off not my finest moment.
Said sorry to little kids mother she just smiled.
It was quiet until i got off.
As i said not my finest moment.

StormingNorman · 19/05/2024 14:51

This Is quite normal now. Although you could ask nicely if they’ll turn them down.

ErinTingey · 19/05/2024 14:51

I'd ask them politely to turn the volume down but it will depend on how attractive you are if they actually listen.

PTSDBarbiegirl · 19/05/2024 14:53

Get headphones next time. You should be able to shout, 'Shut the FUCK up' but it's a long journey as you said and you don't know who they are.

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 19/05/2024 14:54

I'd ask the driver to have a word.

JMSA · 19/05/2024 14:55

In my ideal world, I'd never have to share space with people like this.
YANBU.

It's totally unreasonable to play anything on your phone with the sound on when earphones exist.

SherlockHomies · 19/05/2024 14:55

Lol at "They look rough".

How do you think you're going to look, telling them to 'shut the fuck up'?

Not that you would of course, but you could go and have a polite word.

MaryFuckingFerguson · 19/05/2024 14:57

I hate this so much. I have found that disarming people with a big smile and saying ‘I can hear that/can you use headphones/can you turn that down please?’ has worked every single time.

Fucking morons though.

Oldraver · 19/05/2024 15:02

Put noise cancelling ear thingy's in but dont connect

Go and sit next to them and play crazy frog or opera at full volume

<not really, but can fantasise>
