To request my complimentary stay after all these years

I had a really disappointing stay at a hotel about 10 years ago. When I complained to the manager, she was really apologetic and offered me a complimentary 3 night stay as a gesture of goodwill and to give them the opportunity to show me the usual quality of their product.

For various reasons, I never went back to her to arrange the complimentary stay.

AIBU to contact her now after 10 years to redeem my freebie? If so, how should I word the email request? I’ve checked that the same manager is still in charge at the hotel.

Lease do request it and let us know how they reply!

You just want to enjoy my humiliation.

No harm in asking. Worst thing she can say is no.
You could maybe say you were going through an old email account and came across that and realised you'd never taken it and wondered if it was still possible.

They'll likely say no but you'll be in no worse position than now 🤷

How much did a 3 night stay then compare to a 3 night stay now? I imagine it has increased substantially. Perhaps ask for a night? Or a discount?

PickledPurplePickle · 17/05/2024 19:50

Of course you are BU - you can't ask them to honour it after 10 years, ridiculous

Do it. Do it.

Zonder · 17/05/2024 19:53

You're NBU. They offered it to you and now you're in a position to take up their offer. Send the nice email a pp suggested.

transformandriseup · 17/05/2024 19:53

It's worth a try but I would say even two years js too long.

Hotels give out free nights and deep discounts all the bloody time. Just get in touch and say you'd like to use the freebie you were promised. It's not costing the hotel much and it's not costing the manager anything.

Babyboomtastic · 17/05/2024 19:56

I'd definitely give it a go. I don't have much shame though 😂

B1anche · 17/05/2024 19:57

Do it! What's the worst that can happen? If she says "no" you're no worse off than you are now. You don't ever have to see her again so there's no humiliation.

Myusernamemustbeatleastthreecharacters · 17/05/2024 20:00

Please do it and let us know the reply..

I won't wait 10 years though so do hurry dear..

shuffleofftobuffalo · 17/05/2024 20:00

Well 10 yrs is a bit late really. But also don't ask don't get... please let us know what they say though! I think it's ok to ask very nicely, you'll at least give them a laugh and they might honour it if it's under the same ownership.

ManilowBarry · 17/05/2024 20:02

3 night stay ten years ago = £80 per night.

3 night stay now = £150 per night.

Will you pay the difference?

Moreorlessmentallystable · 17/05/2024 20:03

Omg you remind me of a family member that keeps complaining about everything (including holidays) to keep getting freebies and discounts 😂 somehow she is always successful 🤣 I don't think she has any shame

I don’t complain about everything. This was a very poor customer experience which the manager acknowledged.

When I was six someone brought a Chocolate Log into school at Christmas. Our teacher put it in the stationery cupboad and said we would save it for the New Year.

Over Christmas the classroom was 'broken into' via a tilting window that was 10 feet above ground and the Chocolate Log was STOLEN.

This has puzzled me for more than 50 years and I have my suspicions that a teacher(s) was involved. Would it be reasonable for me to contact the head of the school. (The Head Mistress at the time is long dead) to raise my concerns and perhaps initiate a Police inquiry?

NB: I have still never had a Chocolate Log...😪

Yes, I still have the email and there is no end date stipulated.

Just breezily reply to that original email asking about dates. Hopefully she will be so taken aback she will just go along with it :) No harm in trying!

No, that would be ridiculous.
