To think Universal Credit are a bunch of cunts

I work full time but also claim Universal Credit.

They have awarded me £0 this month because two of my wages have fallen within one assessment period therefore to them, it looks like I have earned twice as much.

This happens several times a year because of how my wages are paid, each time I have to raise a dispute, they then "move" one lot of wages to a different assessment period and adjust my statement and pay me the outstanding amount. This is usually sorted within a few days but sometimes takes longer.

This time my payment is nearly three weeks overdue. I have no money left, all of my wages have been spent on rent, direct debits etc. Every time I ask them for an update I get fuck all.

How can they leave someone in this situation? They told me to ask the local authority for help but I've had no luck.

They already have the information from HMRC/ my employer showing when I was paid and how much. What the actual fuck do the expect people to do? I can't run my car to get to work on fresh air and I doubt my son wants to live off whatever stale shite is left in the cupboard for the next fuck knows how long.

I don't know what I'm hoping for from this post... anyone else had success in getting them to hurry up?

I said a standard vocabulary!

Are you suggesting that someone with a wider vocabulary that takes in all words from the OED is not standard?

Are you therefore suggesting that only your vocabulary is standard and permitted?

What a whingled way to optometer the ginkle of vocabulating.

Perhaps I should have said normal vocabulary then! All that swearing does not help the OP’s case at all, imo. Would the OP use those words when phoning them? No, because it would be regarded as verbal abuse!

Swearing at DWP staff usually results in more delay.🙄

I didn't swear at a member of DWP staff.

I see. Would it be OK to call the drawing pin a cunt in such a case, or would that be excessive, do you think?

Definitely ok!

TuesdayWhistler · 17/05/2024 17:10

Wow. You're really bothered.

Why would OP use that language when calling them?
the people manning the phones at Universal Credit aren't the people OP is referring too. They're call handlers, probably claiming UC themselves.

DWP & Ministers - the people who designed how UC work - they're the cunts, not the frontline workers.

But you're intent on arguing the toss and I've got fucking loads of cunting bollocking work to cunting fucking well Bastarding do so I'll say bye bye, continue with your raging, I'll be ignoring you now and if you reply I'll not respond, cause I'm a cunt like that.

Did the PP hit a nerve? Just because some people make different choices doesn’t automatically mean wealthy parents funding lifestyle choices. I had to have a hardship fund at Uni. I made sure to get good qualifications and now earn well,

Yes, it hit a nerve! Good for you. I guess us stupid folks who couldn't get a degree in order to "earn well" deserve everything we get, aye?

TeaandScandal · 17/05/2024 17:23

Lots of trades people earn well.

Am I bothered? No, but YOU seemed to have got in a lather about it! Not that you’ll see my reply, of course!

And this is what’s wrong with this country, there able to send millions of pounds off to other countries to help them.. whereas that money could have benefited by matching the wages to the actual living costs.

i can’t believe some replies on here, OP works full time, has more then NMW.. yet still can’t afford to live properly? Me and my husband work.. we still need topping up from UC.. so yes, this really is the system and the governments fault! Whoever says it isn’t.. doesn’t understand and certainly hasn’t got to put up with this shit!

It’s fine not to agree with graphic swearing but we all understand the meaning of swear words. On that basis it’s a bit daft to suggest they’re not part of our vocabulary.

Also, you’re suggesting that swearing is ok as an expression of physical pain, such as stepping on a drawing pin. Emotional pain is just as valid, and swearing can convey a real depth of feeling that’s not easy to capture in another way. A post saying “UC are all rotters” doesn’t communicate the same sheer frustration and desperation.

Seeing explicit language may be startling but that’s the point really. It’s underlining a very vehement message the OP is trying to communicate.

UC are unbelievably frustrating to deal with. My DP is really unwell with a neurological condition and the UC person suggested he puts a scarf on to blindfold himself and uses technology for the visually impaired (his sight is perfect).

Their decision making is ridiculous at times and trying to wade through the multiple layers of red tape when you’re worried sick is overwhelming.

I agree. It is easy to become blase and sometimes you need shocking into action or understanding. In polite company swearing just for the sake of it isn't clever but now and again it is the only way to adequately sum up how we feel, and I for one would rather listen to a sweary tirade from someone releasing their frustrations than be punched in the face.

It has been scientifically proven that shouting a stream of expletives when you have hurt yourself helps to numb the pain.

Ahem, I need a degree for my job, have a first degree with honours plus masters plus PGCE, and I still got a text message from HMRC before Xmas saying please check you're being paid the minimum wage and report your employer if you're worried. As I say, I work for the bloody Government and while I love my job, the money is crap. Academic achievement doesn't ways lead to megabucks if you've got a vocation in life! Everybody in the country needs a pay rise, there's just no money to do it because many businesses and high earners are already squeaking under the tax burden and half the population is either too young, too old or too unwell or sadly just too bone idle to work so those of us paid by the tax payer are at the back of the queue. Less lifestyle choice benefits would mean people like me could be paid more and not need topping up just to feed the kids! If I was slim and pretty I would have got married again just to share the financial load because as a single parent it's nigh on impossible!

Not to derail the thread, but a quick question if anyone can answer please regarding universal credit. I work part time minimum wage (20 hours), I'm single, so only one wage coming in, but I'm not entitled to any extra help according to an online benefits calculator.

No extra hours available currently in my job, and, as yet, I've not been able to find extra employment (not sure if it's to do with my age, mid 50's). I don't have a mortgage however, as my house is owned.

Does this sound about right me not being entitled to a top up?

I'd apply and see. You'd get a work allowance that's higher than usual as you don't have a rent element. I'm unsure what current minimum wage is but you'll lose nothing by trying!

RaininSummer · 18/05/2024 20:23

Re below. You will not get a work allowance unless you have children or a disability which has been assessed by the work capability team. A single person with no housing costs will not qualify for UC if working 20 hours a min wage as there would be 505 approx deducted from entitlement and entitlement ys around 400 pounds a month so nothing payable
