To think Universal Credit are a bunch of cunts

StarbucksStraw · 16/05/2024 21:28

I work full time but also claim Universal Credit.

They have awarded me £0 this month because two of my wages have fallen within one assessment period therefore to them, it looks like I have earned twice as much.

This happens several times a year because of how my wages are paid, each time I have to raise a dispute, they then "move" one lot of wages to a different assessment period and adjust my statement and pay me the outstanding amount. This is usually sorted within a few days but sometimes takes longer.

This time my payment is nearly three weeks overdue. I have no money left, all of my wages have been spent on rent, direct debits etc. Every time I ask them for an update I get fuck all.

How can they leave someone in this situation? They told me to ask the local authority for help but I've had no luck.

They already have the information from HMRC/ my employer showing when I was paid and how much. What the actual fuck do the expect people to do? I can't run my car to get to work on fresh air and I doubt my son wants to live off whatever stale shite is left in the cupboard for the next fuck knows how long.

I don't know what I'm hoping for from this post... anyone else had success in getting them to hurry up?

It's not necessary for you to come on and whinge and berate someone just because you don't like their choice of words, but here we are.

It gives a bad impression, that a person cannot be articulate about their problems without resorting to unecessary swearing. I know Mumsnet unfortunately allows swearing, but no one has to!

What would constitute necessary swearing in your view?

I think anyone would swear if they trod on a drawing pin for example, but if they’re trying to make a point on a forum, there is no need to use it to demonstrate anger, disappointment, frustration etc. It actually becomes ineffective and is superfluous, apart from showing up the poster’s lack of appropriate vocabulary. It’s a bit like a naughty child having a tantrum. We all swear, but there’s a time and place for it!

In my view, an encounter with a petty-minded member of the swear police necessitates a bit of effing-and-jeffing.

If they object to the language permitted on a website or forum, they can put up or shut up imo. It's like walking into a pub and moaning that it sells beer.

I see. Would it be OK to call the drawing pin a cunt in such a case, or would that be excessive, do you think?

Notaflippinclue · 17/05/2024 14:32

I've never ever used the word nor heard my husband - when I hear it I cringe for some reason

If you want to, no problem! That’s an instant reaction, to a sudden, ,extreme occurrence. On here, there is so much swearing, it has no shock effect and is pointless ! Just my opinion. Swear away, if you can’t think of anything else to say, but there are better ways to express yourself.

I think so, it gives an instant, poor impression, and could distract from the point of the post.

Not one fucking fluffing bit

There are some fuckers fluffers in society and some cunts chaps in life in general that shit poop their knickers when some cunt chap swears.

If some cunt chap saying cunt chap is all you cunting chapping have to lose your cunting chapping mind over in life, you're doing better than 99% of cunts chaps and should be cunting chapping grateful you dont have real cunts chaps of issues to lose your fucking fluffing shit poop about.

It’s not necessary to use that language to get your points and opinions across!

They're just words that mean something like all other words. And you clearly know that if those words get you her up! You don't want to use them, don't. But some of us like to have a wider vocabulary and use all the words available to us!

Densol · 17/05/2024 15:46

Your stupid employer pays your wages every 4 weeks, rather than how most normal companies pay every month.
so you get 13 pay slips, meaning in one month per year you get double
Is it Tesco ?
They should pay last day of the month like normal companies do

I don’t think swear words form part of a wider vocabulary on a forum, a limited vocabulary, maybe, but swear away if you think they do. I do use swear words actually, but as I said, there’s a time and place!

@Northernlights1234 probably as other than the £70 a week part, the only other parts are housing element which you don't qualify for or money for young children which I'm guessing you don't have OR sickness elements.

The £70ish a week bit is for low income or unemployed and on 20 hours I imagine you just about go over it

Ok thanks for replying

It's the government who make the rules, the appropriate department who.implement them.

be angry, by all means, but be angry at those responsible.

This. The government made the UC shambles this way. The staff just have to implement it.

You'd be better addressing your complaints to a minister, or your employer.

Lots of "normal" employers pay on 4 weekly (or even weekly or 2 weekly) cycles - it is the design of UC that is the issue - and the arrogance of the government in implementing a system they knew full well had these issues built in.
Tax and NI (i.e. the government getting money) can cope fine with these pay frequency differences so why can't UC?

VeryHappyBunny · 17/05/2024 16:32

When I worked for Benefits Agency a sure fire way of getting them to do something was to threaten to contact the relevant Secretary of State. Many claimants did this and their cases were dealt with expediently.

I hope you get this sorted out ASAP as those with plenty of cash can't understand what it is like to live a hand to mouth existence. It would be nice if we all had a contingency fund, but life isn't like that for a lot of us. Obviously most people would rather be paid enough that they didn't need to rely on any benefits at all.

Before I was incapacitated I used to talk to an employee in Aldi who told me she got paid more there than as a trained nurse in the NHS, so if the country's biggest employer pays such a paltry amount that you are better off stacking shelves then there is not much hope for workers in other businesses.

Unfortunately, even after the forthcoming general election, I can't see the Labour Government being much better, as few, if any of them come from "normal" backgrounds.

Apart from your post not making sense, imo swear words are not part of standard vocabulary.

Open a dictionary.

Count the words.

Now minus any word you think is a swear word.

Which figure is bigger?
Dictionary complete or Dictionary minus Cunt, fuck, shit, wanker, bastard, fuckwitted arse cunting shitweasel, bollocks etc etc.

It’s fine not to agree with graphic swearing but we all understand the meaning of swear words. On that basis it’s a bit daft to suggest they’re not part of our vocabulary.

Also, you’re suggesting that swearing is ok as an expression of physical pain, such as stepping on a drawing pin. Emotional pain is just as valid, and swearing can convey a real depth of feeling that’s not easy to capture in another way. A post saying “UC are all rotters” doesn’t communicate the same sheer frustration and desperation.

Seeing explicit language may be startling but that’s the point really. It’s underlining a very vehement message the OP is trying to communicate.

UC are unbelievably frustrating to deal with. My DP is really unwell with a neurological condition and the UC person suggested he puts a scarf on to blindfold himself and uses technology for the visually impaired (his sight is perfect).

Their decision making is ridiculous at times and trying to wade through the multiple layers of red tape when you’re worried sick is overwhelming.
