Ollie is by far the best!

Hopefully a couple of countries won’t win just because of sympathy. If they can manage to enter I’m sure they can expect it to be fair.

You can never be sure with Eurovision though!

Ollies act focused more on the visuals than on what could have been a decent song if the mixing etc had been good. The bits of Bambie that actually focused on the vocal so I could hear - and the lights allowed me to see - her were quite good but overall I didn't enjoy it. Portugal was also a good singer. I just wish I spoke Portuguese to enjoy it fully!

Acts we enjoyed at our party here:
Croatia
Austria
France
Georgia
Armenia
Italy
Switzerland

Austrias song was great!

Yeah it was brilliant. Damn not looking great for Ollie! He’s still my favourite though!

The whole act was vulgar and inappropriate. I’m sure Olly is a nice enough guy, but I could barely hear him, and the song was instantly forgettable. He was the wrong choice for Eurovision, and the song was poor.. it’s time potential songs were put to the public vote.

I feel for Ollie he didn't deserve that.

He did, actually!

Bignanna · 12/05/2024 14:43

BearFacedCheek · 11/05/2024 23:41

Wow. Zero. He did not deserve that. I wonder if the public didn’t get the staging or like the choreography.

You are correct on both counts, plus his voice wasn’t up to the job!

SoupDragon · 12/05/2024 14:45

There used to be a whole programme called "a song for Europe" where acts competed to be the UK Eurovision entry. it looks like they stopped having a selection programme in 2010.

SocksAndTheCity · 12/05/2024 14:46

If you put the subtitles on you get the lyrics translated to English @MrsToothyBitch . It doesn't mean they make any more sense, but you'll know what they're singing at least 😀

The standard of songs then was even worse! I'd love to know who shortlists the potential entries.

I am not a prude but Olly's performance (the staging of it) was completely unnecessary and uncomfortable to watch. He isn't a bad singer, his Years and Years stuff is good but it was like he was trying to prove a point.

He did a performance on Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway and the staging there was so much better and would have looked great at Eurovision, just a shame that we always the laughing stock and for the wrong reasons!

SoftDay · 12/05/2024 14:59

This is one of the best Eurovision songs ever. Came sixth in the UK's Song for Europe in 1982 (Ted and Dougal may have considered it). It featured in the (cult classic) film, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, starring SJP and Helen Hunt.

I think Song for Europe stopped because it was connected to Jonathan King?

Iblinkedandiamold · 12/05/2024 15:57

I wonder how many votes you have to get to convert to points in the public vote. I voted for Olly on the app and was surprised he got 0 points at all in the public votes. I was surprised Isreal got so many, although their song was very good.

Depends on the country - more actual votes would be needed in a country with a higher population.

@Iblinkedandiamold could you vote for your own country then? Or are you not in the UK?

Iblinkedandiamold · 12/05/2024 16:37

@KatherineRS Not in the UK. In Ireland,

myfaceismyown · 12/05/2024 18:06

We have only just finised watching the voting on catchup. We watched Doctor Who as well so far too much telly for one Saturday! Wish Estonia had done better, and Croatia and Ukraine were good, but think the best song competing did actually win.
Best live group of the night for my family was - Alcazar!! Proper ESC entry :) Had us all dancing.

EmilyTjP · 12/05/2024 18:47

He was terrible!

MrsToothyBitch · 12/05/2024 19:12

@SocksAndTheCity wasn't my tv at home or the subtitles would've been on as standard! Forgot that this is the case for ESC though so I'm off to iplayer that one, and the Italian and Serbian entries.
