AIBU to think you dont disqualify a country because of the behaviour of one man? Why can't someone else sing his song?

I didn't know they were disqualified or what he did, however the singer/band are representing their country and so should take that seriously.

IncognitoUsername · 11/05/2024 13:17

Who though? It’s not like football where you can bring on a substitute. The whole thing is not good but the officials can not be seen to condone an assault, regardless of the provocation

aviatorsrus · 11/05/2024 13:25

Why was he disqualified?

mynameiscalypso · 11/05/2024 13:26

He threatened a member of the TV production company. The police are investigating him.

AliceKyteler · 11/05/2024 13:27

No I bet my life he has form. They picked him tough titty.

SoupDragon · 11/05/2024 13:27

A statement from the European Broadcasting Union said: “The Dutch artist Joost Klein will not be competing in the Grand Final of this year’s Eurovision Song Contest.
“Swedish police have investigated a complaint made by a female member of the production crew after an incident following his performance in Thursday night’s Semi Final. While the legal process takes its course, it would not be appropriate for him to continue in the Contest.
“We would like to make it clear that, contrary to some media reports and social media speculation, this incident did not involve any other performer or delegation member.
“We maintain a zero-tolerance policy towards inappropriate behaviour at our event and are committed to providing a safe and secure working environment for all staff at the Contest. In light of this, Joost Klein’s behaviour towards a team member is deemed in breach of Contest rules. The Grand Final of the 68th Eurovision Song Contest will now proceed with 25 participating songs.”

so he needs to be removed from the act, but I am sure someone else could stand in! All those dutch fans who have spent hundreds on travelling and tickets! Surely they should have something to cheer for, even if it isn't what it would have been, there is mre than one person in the performance.

OP posts:
mynameiscalypso · 11/05/2024 13:28

He is the act...

SabreIsMyFave · 11/05/2024 13:31

Oh dear. Confused I suspected he might be banned after his behaviour. How embarrassing. I bet his country is furious!

TooBigForMyBoots · 11/05/2024 13:33

He wrote the song and he performed the song, he wasn't a dancer or a backing singer. So by getting disqualified it meant the country was disqualified. So YABU @CarolineFields.

I really don't think it's too much to ask that the acts don't abuse the production staff. I'm sorry that he's out, I quite liked the song, but it's his own fault.🤷‍♀️

That's like saying oh Elton John isn't feeling well tonight but can't someone else stand in for him???

Ridiculous. They don't have understudies. It's not theatre.

Mothership4two · 11/05/2024 13:41

As others have said it's his song. However, if it were possible it's a bit too late in the day to bring in a stand in anyway, who has missed several rehearsals. I'm sure they have rules about stand ins.

MoreSettingsAvailable · 11/05/2024 13:43

Eurovision has become all about the politics. I just hope there are no incidents tonight.

EatMoreFibre · 11/05/2024 13:46

It's a fair point OP.

We don't know what happened. AFAIK he hasn't been charged with anything let alone been found guilty.

TabithaTimeTurner · 11/05/2024 13:48

All those dutch fans who have spent hundreds on travelling and tickets!

Well he should have thought about that before losing his temper!
I think the country who was next in the voting to nearly qualify should have a chance to perform instead.

The Dutch fans can boo him instead. He was representing their country.

Do we know what actually happened?

i thought this too but it’s too late unfortunately. There was a performance for juries yesterday so any country asked to stand in now have been missed from that part of the process. (The Dutch entry was a pre-recording rather than live but this was before the disqualification)

I mean, workplace safeguards don't have to meet the threshold of the rule of law.

Riverlee · 11/05/2024 14:36

It’s the Eurovision SONG contest, but people seem to have forgotten that. I agree, someone else could sing it. Maybe they rename it Eurovision Performance contest

BarcardiWithGadaffia · 11/05/2024 14:40

I don't know what he's done but he's very young Jimmy Savulle isn't he?

Disgusting thing to say about someone if you don’t know what they’ve done

FanofLeaves · 11/05/2024 14:53

No, it’s too late. The wheels are very much in motion with regards to the competition before we see the final tonight. Someone else can’t just pop up there and sing, it’s not a secondary school production of Grease and Sandy’s woken up with tonsillitis. There have already been endless sound checks, rehearsals, costume fittings, and possibly already one round of judging.
